It would be nice if we could right all the wrongs against us. šŸ˜¦
That it would. Here is something that I have been thinking about more and more, and I would like some opinions on it. Traditionally, Catholics have prayed for the people who defame our Church, and we should do so. However, for many of our members, the struggle ends right there. My question is, should it end there? I am starting to think that we are going to have to make more of a statement in the public about our faith. There is just way too much misinformation out there, and I think we have an obligation to do something about that. I am short on ideas, and I admit that, but I think something should be done. A shepherd must tend his flock, but when necessary, he must also fend off the wolves.

Thoughts?

Exactly, that is why I am doing my part in doing a door to door of pamphlet hanging. The only fear is that our lone Catholic Church will come under fire. All the more the reason.

That is great! I think that we all need to take a more active role at getting the word out on the street.

Here is comment from one of them:
Hereā€™s a quote I have from a RC pamphlet I took while attending an infant baptism (I know, I hated it!)
ā€œIs Scripture the sole rule of faith for Christians? Not according to the Bible. While we must guard against merely human tradition, the Bible contains numerous references to the necessity of clinging to apostolic tradition.ā€
What garbage. Itā€™s like the apostles were greater than ā€œmere human traditionā€, not that the apostles started any of these heretical ā€œtraditionsā€.

Ok, here is an example of a lie that I read just yesterday on the BB. They claimed that the Catholic Church teaches that Mary is to be worshiped.

Now, we all know that this is not true, but there was nobody on the board coming out in our defense. Just makes me angry that ministers tell their congragations this kind of misinformation as if they have researched it. Problem is, these men and women have no idea how to do research. Rather, they seek only to support their own biased view. That is my problem.
Hmmmm. I think one can certainly see it that way. Itā€™s not an uncommon opinion, if nothing else, and by the ways that a lot of religions define worhsip, it would actually be seen exactly that way and be accurate. Therefore, it doesnā€™t seem quite so bad. What you simply have to recall is that unless you are inside an organization you are going to interpret their practices by your own rules.

Were they saying anything particularly insulting about that besides expressing the though itself?

With all due respect, I can take Hitler out of context and with enough fluffy words and changes of perspective, make him look like a guy that you would enjoy seeing move in next door.

The bottom line is that people publish things on the internet to support their often hateful points of view, and they are doing so without doing any research about their statements. Or, they are doing research and knowingly printing things that they know are untrue. Either way, they need to have to answer for that. People who are teaching their congregations that which is not true will have to answer for it. There can be no doubt about that. This is why Scott Haan converted, and no amount of pandering can make the lies true.

Did they do that here? Do you have proof this was malicious? And do you see truth as objective or subjective? These questions are key to the problem here, and despite what you insist it cannot be answered so simply without having any details of why these people think that about catholics or why they wrote it.

Well, they killed my last thread. Bummer. Here is the long and the short of it. I am all for intelligent dialogue as well, but I am not in favor of anyone posting information about Catholics that is not correct. Thus, when I entered the Baptist Board and found that they were running a post called ā€œCatholicā€¦Religion or Cultā€ I was compelled to find out more. The more that I read about it, the more I understood that it was all lies. And lies must be dealt with. Thus, I posted here in the hope of generating discussion about people who do not know what they are talking about, yet go to great lengths to sound like they do. We call them bigots. You can too. If you have ever read a post about Catholics that was anti-Catholic and founded in BS, I want to hear about it here. I love you all, and it is time to talk about this.
The post I read on baptistboard tried to assert this: that Saint Patrick was an evangelical, born-again Christian, perhaps even a baptist. As if someone who was consecrated a bishop, founded an archdiocese in Ireland, and did missionary work on orders from the Pope was a born-again. Right.

I have viewed a couple of threads there, and there a good amount of vicious maliciousness.

Amen! Bottom line is that you have a bunch of people over there who are doing one of two thingsā€¦I will not speculate which:
  1. They have no real understanding of the Catholic Church other than what they have been told from the pulpit in error. That would put them in the ignorant catagory. This would be sad, but I could at least understand it to some degree.
  2. Or they do know about the Catholic Church and what we teach, but they have decided to defame the church in any way that they can. If lying will get the job done, so be it. Now this, I have a real problem with.
Either way, I think we have to do everything that we can to correct it, and I will give a couple of reasons for that:
  1. Because they are teaching error, one day they are going to have to answer for it later.
  2. We owe it to the Catholic Church to defend her.

Well, your reporter has once again gone over to the Baptist Board of Lies, and I am quickly back with the lie of the day:

Just read a huge thing on faith and works. Overwhelming numbers of people that sayā€¦wait for itā€¦Catholics believe that they can work their way into heaven and faith has nothing to do with it.

Sound like a lie to youā€¦well, it is. And the longer we do nothing about this, the worse it is going to get.

Also of note, and I am putting this in here just to show you the mentality of the people I am talking about, I also read an interesting ā€œWarning to all Baptistsā€ in which the author tells them how the ā€œflood of illegal mexicansā€ who are ā€œ100% Roman Catholicā€ are crossing the boarder and threatening to uproot our great nation which he say was "founded as a Protestant Nation ". I guess the lies donā€™t stop at the Catholic Church, they can now lie about the US Constitution as well.
