I know exactly what you are talking about. I was raised in a prot, very anti-Catholic home. Never let an opportunity go by to slam the Catholics; that was the attitude in my home. BUT, even thoughâŚwhat happened was that I developed a curiosity about the Catholics that may not have risen had I not heard all the âslamsâ throughout my childhood. The âwordâ at my house was mackerel snappers; like your pagans.Itâs cool to know that even though we were rebellious in the past, Christ kept knocking on that door asking for us to open it. Now I donât know what I would do without the Truth Iâve found in the Catholic Church. I canât wait to join it!

DITTO!Iâm with you. It was those very accusations which caused me to look more deeply and study the Faith. If it had not been for those accusations, which invariably proved false, I would not have the strength of Faith that I do today.
I really have to agree with you on this Steph. I was the same way and now, I canât see how one can NOT see it.Wow, this stuff is really true in my life as well. I remember almost 2 years ago, right after I had read Scott Hahnâs book about the mass, reading through the book of John and wondering âWow! How did I ever miss this stuff!! This is incredible.â And you know, I had been one of those know-it-all Bible buffs back in my evangelical days⌠I could beat all my friends at Bible trivia. Yet, SOMEHOW, Iâd managed to never stop and ponder the passages about Christâs Body and Blood⌠and also my pastors had all managed to not have to go there in their sermons or theyâd just skimmed over it. Crazy.
And now that I see it- now that you guys see it too- do you ever wonder how you didnât see it and why? Was it just b/c we were never exposed to it, that it wasnât pointed out to us? Or were we just blinded and even if a well-meaning Catholic had drawn those verses to our attention we would have rejected it? Iâm probably a combination of those two. I spent the first 20 years of my life being EXTREMELY anti-catholic. In fact, when I was a teen I remember driving home from my evangelical church and seeing all of the âpagansâ (my words!) coming out of mass at the local Catholic Church.

Either that, or just leave those books out of the Bible altogether.Am I the only one who feels like the non-Catholic churches that we were part of sort of âread aroundâ or donât touch on passages of the Bible that pretty clearly show that Catholic belief and practice are correct?
There are so many frustrating aspects of dealing with some of the a-Cs I meet⌠In general I just let it go after I present my case. It takes the pressure off and allows me not to sweat their opinions. Truth is truthâŚgetting that through someone elseâs skull is the work of the Holy Spirit. not mine. My job is faithfulness and prayer after I have sown what seed I can.Either that, or just leave those books out of the Bible altogether.
I donât understand, if someoneâs faith is based on a word-for-word literal interpretation of the Bible, doesnât it make sense to include all the words?
One of my favorites is to hear Matthew 23:9 described as âyou should call no man Father except your male biological parent; itâs OK to call him Fatherâ â that verse doesnât actually mention âbiological parentsâ, does it?
I have had the same questions about âliteral interpretaionsâ myself. What I do is whenever I hear someone use those words to describe their position I quickly cite the passages where Jesus says, âIf your hand causes you to sin, cut it offâŚâ That usually is a shocker to them, of course you have to reassure them that that is not a literal command.I donât understand, if someoneâs faith is based on a word-for-word literal interpretation of the Bible, doesnât it make sense to include all the words?

There is a big difference between being deceived into things like Mary worship, bowing down to idols(eucharist), and hoping your works will merit eternal life and being born of satan.thank you, Michael. I am new to the forum and just learning how to lovingly answer fundamentalists who tell me I am a Pawn of Satan. You have helped me.

And I suppose that you oppose the things you cite in your first paragraph? Which indicates that you have zero understanding of Catholic teachings on the beliefs that you mention, but I guess you just couldnât wait to get in here and bash the Catholic Church and so have not read any of the clear articles on the CA home page library. The fact that you make the statements that you have displays that you are sorely ignorant of the truth. There is a big difference between being deceived into things like Mary worship, bowing down to idols(eucharist), and hoping your works will merit eternal life and being born of satan.
What is needed is to return to the true Christ, the one risen at the right hand of the Father, without any grace passing through Mary(sheâs not God).
Anyone that tells you are a spawn of satan is not practicing what the Bible teaches and is only using the âsword of the spiritâ to beat up on you, instead of loving you like Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it.
Nobody here worships Mary and the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ is no idol. You might do better here if you start by learning what the Catholic Church really teaches. You are seriously misinformed. There is a big difference between being deceived into things like Mary worship, bowing down to idols(eucharist), and hoping your works will merit eternal life and being born of satan.
Which is where about 99% of all anti-Catholic bias really comes from. (IMO) And this is my own premiss in my IP. Far too many non-Catholics condemn Catholics and our teachings without ever bothering to read or hear what we really believe, as opposed to reading or hearing something about Catholicism by a non-Catholic source. :yup:Nobody here worships Mary and the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ is no idol.
