I do this because I am wary of tossing out ‘anti-Catholic’ too casually because friendly non-Catholics can get in a real wad about it.
Your way is probably the better way - hair-trigger, here. :o

Especially when people pound on this wonderful man who is our Pope!!! 😦

Since this is the headline article on EWTN’s main newspage as well as at the Catholic News Agency , I’m sure there must be a major movement afoot to have this group disinvited from WYD as they should be.

It is an unfortunate fact in our day that their are those who put heaps of praise on our Lord Jesus Christ, while at the same time having nothing good to say about our Holy Father and the papacy in general. It just goes to show that a Latin American band that praises Jesus isn’t always a Catholic one.:nope:

I am curious about this man because of something else – can you tell me who he is affiliated with or works for?

My apologies for the sidebar in this thread.

No problem. Dave is a lay apologist not employed by anyone as far as I know. His main website is Biblical Evidence for Catholicism

I got into it becuase he has loads of dialogues with non-Catholics, anti-Catholics, atheists, liberals, conservatives, etc. on it and you can watch how a Catholic can effectively work with the typical objections one receives.

I just E-mailed my protest and concerns. Having a band perform for our Catholic youth who has little respect for the role of our Holy Father! That just blows me away. Gee, was Bill Mahr too busy to attend so they opted for this band instead? :banghead:

Scott Waddell:
Here is the official website for WYD as far as I know: wjt2005.de/index.php?id=6&si=1 I clicked on “contact” and sent them an email asking to remove this band if the reporting is indeed accurate. If we get enough people writing perhaps we can avoid another Lauryn Hill (sp?) episode.

Scott
Thanks for the information Scott, I have sent them an E mail asking that this band be removed from participating the World Youth Day, because of their criticisms of the Pope, and that they don’t seem to be Catholic in any meaningful sense to me.

Scott Waddell:
I would need to hear more from them to determine if they merely disagree or if they actually think salvation hinges on rejecting the pope’s authority.
I translated an interview with the band leader Ulises** **on this thread . Most of what he says is sort of your basic kumbaya. Some of it is explicitly against the legitimacy of the Catholic Church and of the Pope.

I, too, have emailed my protest to both WYD and the band’s web site. It would be a disgrace to let them perform after their potshots at Pope Benedict.

If by some unfortunate chance they do end up performing, it will be a consolation to know that these brave heroes of dissent will go right back to being the nobodies they are as soon as their 15 minutes of global fame are up.
