Dredgemate:
Wait, I think everyone is reading way too much into this. At what point in the article does it talk about implanting chips? It’s talking about using biomentric (fingerprints, eye scans, etc…) and other information to use in a tracking system- not physically implanitng you with a tracking chip.
What makes you think the Govenrment can’t find you using other types of infomration (SSN, Credit card purchases, INTERNET ACCESS). I can assure you that if the Feds wanted to find you, they wouldn’t need a chip to do it.
I can assure you that there is no amount of control that is excessive to those who thirst for power.
When you give the government control of your life–and in a civilized society, they are going to have some–you cannot just say, “Am I comfortable with
this government knowing this?” You have to ask yourself “Would I be comfortable with a fascist government having this information on all of us? Do I want it to be
this easy for
them to hunt people down?”
When you make it easy to find a person, to know who is out there and what they are doing, you make it easy to persecute entire groups of people, and to do it very soon after the wrong people get into power. Better to put enough difficulty into it that tracking the criminals is all they have the resources to do.
This makes it hard for the police, yes… but the alternative may one day put them in the position of collaborating with evil or getting shot themselves, as during the Nazi regime. It is even dangerous to be in law enforcement when law enforcement is given too much power! Besides, power is a brew that police can easily get drunk on, as we see throughout history, even our own. We all have a dark side, and need to be protected from it.
I think the right to bear arms, for instance, has nothing to do with deer hunting. It has to do with not trusting normal humans with extraordinary power. You have to make it so they need the power to persuade voluntary compliance in order to keep the whole thing from flying apart. In that case, you still have people governing themselves. And since you can’t make a country that is better than its people, that is as it should be.
The lack of anarchy in this country is a daily choice that the majority of the citizenry makes. That is as it should be. When the choice for anarchy does not exist, the government is by definition totalitarian.
