It is more effective to speak the truth in love, without using derogatory terms to refer to another’s faith.
I was not aware that the term Mohamadism was offensive to Muslims. I don’t recall using it here–or anywhere. But if I did, I offer my apologies to anyone I may have offended.
I don’t like being called a “Romanist,” or a “Papist.” When someone uses that term to refer to my Catholic faith, it only gives me a reason to discount everything they say on the ground that they have absolutely ZERO credibility. It also lowers my opinion about anti-Catholics in general. I have no reason to believe that Muslims would react differently when faced with a similar situation.
So, if Catholics use offensive terms for Islam when speaking to Muslims about their faith tradition, they’re not only hurting their own credibility, and the credibility of all Catholics in general, but they’re preventing Muslims’ from really hearing the Gospel. My sincere belief is that this is not our goal. We’re not in this to win arguments. We’re in this to win souls; preferably without losing our own in the process.
Just my two cents.
Peace,
Robert
