They're not Mohammedans. They're Muslims.

As far as I know, pigs and apes do not speak human languages or engage in human debates and discussions. So the idea that any human could “respond like a pig or an ape” and thereby justify what those sources quoted (if true) call Jews and Christians, is truly ridiculous.
I believe Christ called it, “Turning the other cheek.”

P.S.
I’m not justifying the Quranic passages that speak pejoratively of Christians and Jews. But you don’t have to be a donkey to criticise them.

I now wonder what to do every time I quote St. John of Damascus cause in his entire document on Islam he refers to them as “Mohammedans”

I have a very difficult time understanding your own pressing need to use derision (calling/likening people to animals) to make your point. Must people be pigs or apes or donkeys for you to express yourself? I really suggest you read your posts carefully and take your own advice.

I believe Christ called it, “Removing the log in thine own eye first”.

I’ve never heard this term used to describe any Muslim…I’ve seen it in old texts, but never IRL.

Regarding the “Apes & Pigs”…

There is a passage “ayah” in the koran about the Jews and how allah turned them into apes for not observing the Sabbath.

This passage seems strange and funny to me cause if “allah” wanted to show the Jews that he is “god” then the muslims would have observed the “sabbath” but they don’t. The muslims have their Friday.

So, in addition, there is another passage "ayah’ in the koran about the Christains and not keeping the OT law regarding “swine” - therefore allah called/changes the Christians “pigs”.

That’s where all this mess came from.

My last post was not meant to quote this post… sorry

Muslims have been called “Mohammedans” for centuries. And to this day, some still refer to that.

PC at it’s best.

I never refused to call people what they are. If a Muslim persecutes a Christian, then I will gladly call him/her a Muslim terrorist, because that is what he/she is.
Then I guess Mohammad is a terrorist because he does instruct his followers to kill Jews & Christians, and he mocks us for our beliefs. Ive posted the verses like 10 times now so I’m not going to do it again, but you can find them in the other thread with his source of revelations.

Having read the koran from cover to cover I am very aware of what you are talking about. the koran is completely contradictory to what Christ…our God and Savior…taught. Christ taught love. Mohammad taught violence and hate. Christ taught humility. Mohammad taught arrogance. Christ taught to walk away shaking the dust of their village from your sandals if they rejected the Gospel. Mohammad taught the murder those who rejected his message. How can anyone accept that message?

Agree 👍

Ive heard tons of stories on the news of Christians (specifically in the middle east) who are getting killed, or churches getting bombed. Not too long ago, there were some Nigerian Muslims who told all the Christians to “leave their land or get killed”.

It really is terrible. 😦

I don’t know if you have ever read this:

St. John of Damascus’s Critique of Islam

The following passage is from Saint John’s monumental work, the Fount of Knowledge, part two entitled Heresies in Epitome: How They Began and Whence They Drew Their Origin. It is usually just cited as Heresies.

The translator’s introduction points out that Fount of Knowledge is one of the most “important single works produced in the Greek patristic period,…offering as it does an extensive and lucid synthesis of the Greek theological science of the whole period.

It is the first great Summa of theology to appear in either the East or the West.”

Saint John (+ 749) is considered one of the great Fathers of the Church, and his writings hold a place of high honor in the Church.

His critique of Islam, or “the heresy of the Ishmaelites,” is especially relevant for our times.

I will not copy/paste cause it’s long for this site… I submit it for your review

It’s relevant because the CC has become a PC institution when it comes to islam. When someone from the Church speaks the truth and muslims don’t like it…they back down. As Benedict did several years ago.

If we don’t evangelize and defend out faith against heretics…then our faith is shallow. And the leadership of the CC is more concerned with being PC when dealing with the heresy of islam.
It is more effective to speak the truth in love, without using derogatory terms to refer to another’s faith.

I was not aware that the term Mohamadism was offensive to Muslims. I don’t recall using it here–or anywhere. But if I did, I offer my apologies to anyone I may have offended.

I don’t like being called a “Romanist,” or a “Papist.” When someone uses that term to refer to my Catholic faith, it only gives me a reason to discount everything they say on the ground that they have absolutely ZERO credibility. It also lowers my opinion about anti-Catholics in general. I have no reason to believe that Muslims would react differently when faced with a similar situation.

So, if Catholics use offensive terms for Islam when speaking to Muslims about their faith tradition, they’re not only hurting their own credibility, and the credibility of all Catholics in general, but they’re preventing Muslims’ from really hearing the Gospel. My sincere belief is that this is not our goal. We’re not in this to win arguments. We’re in this to win souls; preferably without losing our own in the process.

Just my two cents.

Peace,
Robert

I agree Robert. All too often many of us including myself get a little too rapped up in this conversation.

God’s blessings
