An irreplaceable relic of Saint John Paul II has been stolen from Cologne Cathedral.

I am deeply grieved for the cathedral and for the faithful deprived of this precious relic.

There was a similar occurrence some years ago in Italy but the relic was recovered and restored. I pray that might be so in this case as well.

My old parish had some of St. John Paul II’s blood. Our pastor called upon a parish “security team” to come up with a plan to prevent theft of the many relics.
One of his chief cone end was the possibility not of someone selling, but rather someone using it for nefarious purposes.

All parishes should consider security for holy objects in this day and age.
