I’ve tried for a month now to go to confession but things keep happening that make me miss confession such as getting sick, appointments, weather and the parish cancelling confession for some reason. I’ve tried to go to other parishes but they are far away and I don’t have transport.
Just this morning I tried to go and there was too many people so I didn’t get a chance to confess. I’m upset and am going to try again next week. I don’t understand why it’s so hard.
Do you think God is doing this?

Well, you can always try to make an appointment with your parish priest or the next time you go to confession make sure you get there before confessions are to begin. I like to get there at least 15-20 minutes before the starting time.
Do you think God is doing this?
Certainly not. God wants you in the confessional so you can reconcile yourself to Him.

I always go early so I don’t get “left out” by lack of time. Don’t blame it on God, HE isn’t the one that keeps us away from Confession!! God Bless, Memaw

This recently happened to me as well, and I was a long time in between confessions. When I was finally able to go and confess I felt so different afterwards it was remarkable, and I have never been one of those people who feel so relieved once they confess. Between the difficulty in getting to confession, the lifting of a burden afterwards, and a dream I had a few days later, it was discerned that it was likely the evil one who was laying all these obstacles in my path. Perhaps something similar is happening with you. Like Memaw and Brad said, double down and persevere in finding a way to confession. Make an appointment or go extra early. Be determined to go no matter what. It’s important.

I understand your frustration. I have been there early a few times only to find there is no priest to hear confessions or too busy to hear confessions or there was already a dozen people in a line that didn’t move for 30 minutes. Making a appointment seems the way to go.

I would try again a little earlier if possible and if that doesn’t work make an appointment. God knows your heart that you intend to go to confession.

I can feel for you. That kind of thing happens and it’s frustrating.

We can only believe that God’s love, mercy and forgiveness is much more higher than sometimes we think they are. That can be consoling thought.

Even though Sacraments are visible graces, God is greater and not limited by them in his love, mercy and forgiveness. He sees our hearts and forgives us.

We can only try our reasonable best to receive the Sacraments but reality is not always on our side. Perhaps God wants you to know that; and despite that and because your heart is for Him, you are always His loving child.

Perhaps next time, you will get to have your Confession. 🙂

God bless.

While that is true, please don’t receive Holy Communion if you are in the state of mortal sin until you Do get to Confession. God Bless, Memaw

Hello. You misunderstand my post. Nothing that I say that we can receive Holy Communion in a state of mortal sin. You still have to confess it, okay? However, we should not be too discouraged if we are unable to go for Confession because God knows our heart and intent. Should we be struck dead at the moment, because of our desire for Confession and our frustration that we couldn’t make it, it would surely be a good mitigation for the mercy of God.

I hope people can read the post carefully before commenting. It seems to happen quite occasionally here. :(😦

To many people today think they can go to Holy Communion no matter what. They do themselves more harm than good. I know many of them. I did read it carefully and if you noticed, I did agree with you but sometimes we need to make our point a bit clearer!!! God Bless, Memaw

I have, on occasion (say I didnt get through the line before mass) stayed after and asked the priest if he had time for a quick confession, I have yet to be turned down.

I would not make a habit of it, as priests have lives too and may have immediate plans. But I also struggle to make it to confession, I have small children.

So you were telling me that we should not receive Holy Communion in a state of mortal sin. DUH! I already knew that since I was seven years old. Taught and brought up by a good Catholic priest in a Catholic boarding school. Went to Confession and received Holy Communion as soon as I was old enough.

And which Catholics do not know that? How do you know they receive Holy Communion in a state of mortal sin? Do you know their hearts?

Once again, tried to go to confession but church closed due to public holiday. It’s not possible to book an appointment either. This is ridiculous. I’m so upset.

I understand your frustration 100%. I’ve thought for days on a good, thorough confession only to show up and have confession canceled. Yes, I realize the priest can be called away, but sometimes, they show up half an hour late or more. Sadly there seems to be more concentration on pot luck luncheons, KOC gatherings, and bible study field trips rather than providing confession times. I pray this changes…

God bless you, Blue Rose. You have tried, you desire Confession. You did well but it just did not happen, not for lack of trying but because for reason that is beyond your control. You are upset because want to receive this Sacrament but unable to do so.

I don’t know the exact situation of your parish. Normally if there is a priest or if there is a mass, you can catch him after it and ask for a Confession.

In any case, like I said, despite what others said here, I would say be consoled and comforted, for God knows what you have tried to do. He does not dwell strictly on legalism, but as a loving Father God, His love is for His contrite child, which you are, and that is the most important.

Do not let that trouble you too much, go for Confession when you can at other time then.

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the Fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death.

Amen.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle,
be our defense against the wickedness and snares
of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray.
And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the
power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other
evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

St. Thérèse of Liseux Prayer From “Story of A Soul”

May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received,
and pass on the love that has been given to you.
May you be content knowing you are a child of God.
Let this presence settle into your bones,
and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise, and love.
It is there for each and every one of us.

Amen.

Lord, thank you that you are with me right now.
Your love surpasses all fear.
I give you the anxiety I feel.
I surrender all my worries to you.
Clear my mind;
Calm my heart;
Still my Spirit;
Relax my being, that, I may
always glorify you in everything
I write, speak and do.

Amen.

Jesus, Help Me

In every need let me come to Thee with humble trust, saying,
Jesus, help me!

In all my doubts, perplexities, and temptations,
Jesus, help me!

In hours of loneliness, weariness and trials,
Jesus, help me!

In the failure of my plans and hopes; in disappointments, troubles and sorrows,
Jesus, help me!

When my heart is cast down by failure, at seeing no good come from my efforts,
Jesus, help me!

When others fail me, and Thy grace alone can assist me,
Jesus, help me!

When I throw myself on Thy tender love as Father and Savior,
Jesus, help me!

When I feel impatient, and my cross irritates me,
Jesus, help me!

When sickness and loneliness overcome me,
Jesus, help me!

Always, in weakness, falls and shortcomings of every kind,
Jesus, help me and never forsake me.

Thank You, dear Lord Jesus.

Amen.

Sweet Heart of Jesus, be my love.
Sweet Heart of my Jesus, grant that I may always love You more.
Heart of Jesus, burning with love for us, set our hearts on fire with love of You.
Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make our hearts like Your Heart.

Amen.

Prayers said. All will be well. Do not fear, the Lord is protecting you.
Do not be lonely, your guardian angel is beside you.
Be comforted, Mother will watch over you, and the
Holy Spirit will guide you.

Amen.

Prayer Against Depression
………….By St Ignatius of Loyola

O Christ Jesus
When all is darkness
And we feel our weakness and helplessness,
Give us the sense of Your Presence,
Your Love and Your Strength.
Help us to have perfect trust
In Your protecting love
And strengthening power,
So that nothing may frighten or worry us,
For, living close to You,
We shall see Your Hand,
Your Purpose, Your Will through all things.

Amen.

Let Nothing Disturb You

Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things are passing away:
God never changes.

Patience,
Obtains all things,
Whoever has God
Lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.

Santa Teresa de Jesús
(Santa Teresa de Ávila)

Amen.

**
My Jesus,
I believe that You are
present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and
I desire to receive You into my soul.
**Since I cannot at this moment receive
You sacramentally, come at least spiritually
into my heart. I embrace You
as if You were already there and
unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated
from You.

Amen.

Piarist fathers have taught this short act of
Spiritual Communion, popularized by St. Josemaria Escriva:

I wish, Lord, to receive You with the purity, humility and
devotion with which Your most holy Mother received You, with the
spirit and fervour of the saints.

Amen.

**
Thank You dear Lord Jesus, always and
everywhere, for everything.

Amen.

† **

Jesus, I trust in You.

Amen.

❤️

I know it can be frustrating, but as others have said persevere. I work Saturdays and the only time our parish generally has confessions is Saturday afternoon, so that is out for me. There have been times where I call the rectory office and ask to set up an appointment only to be told that “Father sets up his own appointments.” I ask may I speak to him and I’m told he’s out and they don’t know when he’ll be back. So then I may have to wait a day or longer.

What I normally do is try to attend a weekday Mass and when it is over I follow Father back into the Sacristy and ask him to hear my confession. It’s usually all said and done with in a few minutes so I’m not monopolizing tons of his time.

So for you I’d recommend after a Mass follow the priest straight back into the sacristy and ask.

If our hearts are in the right place and we know we have committed a mortal sin then we are obligated to go to Confession to receive the Sacrament of Absolution BEFORE receiving. The Catholic Church teaches us NOT to receive in the state of Mortal sin. God Bless, Memaw

UPDATE: finally got to confess after almost 7 weeks! I feel happy 😊

Congrats!

I’ve heard many speculate that it is spiritual warfare in action when we seem to have nothing but time all week, but when an opportunity to confess arises, we somehow can’t make it. Hard to prove or disprove, but it does mean we need a little extra commitment and resolve. That goes double for me!
