Memorare (Prayer to Our Lady)
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

Loving God,

We lift up our intentions for Jim, your son who has endured much hardship and many trials, and has remained faithful and courageous in the face of suffering. Thank you Lord, for guiding and helping Jim in this situation in his life and for a reasonable outcome with his retirement. Lord, you love Jim and his family, and you will provide in his time of uncertainty and need. Please bless all the members of this family during this time of continuing anxiety and concern, while they also deal with many other issues.

Thank you also Lord, for the witness and faith that our friend Jim displays in his situation, and for the prayers he lifts up for others in his continued devotion to you, O Lord.

We lift our prayers in the name of your beloved son Jesus, the Good Shepherd of your people.

Amen.

Prayer for you dear brother in Christ before the Blessed Sacrament tonight.

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP
Holy God, we praise you for your love for us, for sending us Jesus your Son, and for giving us Mary as our mother of perpetual help.
We thank you for these signs of your love, and we ask you to lead us by your Spirit, so that we may continue to live as your holy people.
We praise you for your unending strength and support. With the help of Mary’s prayers, may we always be open to recognize your hand in the events of our life and to accept your constant gift of grace. We ask you to please continue to pray for Natalie to be healed from this pain and that the doctors will treat her according to Gods will.
Loving God, we ask this prayer through Jesus Christ, our brother and our Lord, in the love of your Holy Spirit, one God, now and always and for ever.
Amen!

O QUEEN OF HEAVEN AND EARTH,
Most Holy Virgin, we venerate thee.
Thou art the beloved Daughter of the Most High God,
the chosen Mother of the Incarnate Word,
the Immaculate Spouse of the Holy Spirit,
the Sacred Vessel of the Most Holy Trinity.

O Mother of the Divine Redeemer, who under the title of Our Lady of Good Remedy comes to the aid of all who call upon thee, extend thy maternal protection to us. We depend on thee, Dear Mother, as helpless and needy children depend on a tender and caring mother.

Hail Mary Full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death. Amen***

O LADY OF GOOD REMEDY, source of unfailing help, grant that we may draw from thy treasury of graces in our time of need.
Touch the hearts of sinners, that they may seek reconciliation and forgiveness. Bring comfort to the afflicted and the lonely; help the poor and the hopeless; aid the sick and the suffering. May they be healed in body and strengthened in spirit to endure their sufferings with patient resignation and Christian fortitude.

Hail Mary Full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death. Amen

DEAR LADY OF GOOD REMEDY, source of unfailing help, thy compassionate heart knows a remedy for every affliction and misery we encounter in life. Help me with thy prayers and intercession to find a remedy for my problems and needs, especially for…

(The needs of po18guy and his family!).

On my part, O loving Mother, I pledge myself to a more intensely Christian lifestyle, to a more careful observance of the laws of God, to be more conscientious in fulfilling the obligations of my state in life, and to strive to be a source of healing in this broken world of ours.

Dear Lady of Good Remedy, be ever present to me, and through thy intercession, may I enjoy health of body and peace of mind, and grow stronger in the faith and in the love of thy Son, Jesus.

Hail Mary Full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death. Amen

V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of Good Remedy,
R. That we may deepen our dedication to thy Son, and make the world alive with His Spirit

As I thank the Lord for those who pray for me, I thought an update would be in order. Monday last I saw doctor during my infusion. The clinical trial that I am in has closed, but a humanitarian clause in FDA regulations allows those who benefit from experimental drugs to continue on them. My scans are still clear, but it seems the side effects of the drug have ramped up a little lately. While it is not chemotherapy per se, and is considered low-toxicity, it does have some side effects similar to chemo.

Due to my treatment schedule and the side effects (and my involuntary retirement), I have applied for social security disability. With what may lie ahead, I can use the medicare qualification. So, as has been the case over the past two years, I remain in a sort of limbo. I can discontinue the drug and take the chance that the cancer will not come back. However, the strongest chemo that I could take, involving eight different chemotherapy drugs three times per week over four months did not kill it, and came close to killing me!.

There is also risk in remaining on the drug. Cancer has a way of mutating around anti-cancer drugs. If I go off the drug and the cancer comes back it might react to the drug and it might not. If I stay on the drug, the cancer might mutate around it. The only other treatments are 1) “salvage therapy”, in which I am given a massive dose of chemo over 24 hours in the hospital and sent home with best wishes, and 2) one of various forms of stem cell transplant, which will require total body radiation and an expected high degree of graft vs. host disease - in other words, the beginning of the end. I much prefer belief in God, where I’m only damned if I don’t! Again, it reinforces my assertion that my life hangs by the thread of prayer. However, I have accepted the type of death which the Lord has planned for me.

I am thankful more and more for all of you faithful prayer warriors who call down the graces of life. Amen!
