Memorare (Prayer to Our Lady)
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

Loving God,

We lift up our intentions for Jim, your son who has endured much hardship and many trials, and has remained faithful and courageous in the face of suffering. Thank you Lord, for guiding and helping Jim in this situation in his life and for a reasonable outcome with his retirement. Lord, you love Jim and his family, and you will provide in his time of uncertainty and need. Please bless all the members of this family during this time of continuing anxiety and concern, while they also deal with many other issues.

We lift our prayers in the name of your beloved son Jesus, the Good Shepherd of your people.

Amen.

Brothers and sisters, I am extremely grateful for your continuing prayers. My retirement on Wednesday brought all of this to the fore, since retirement did not appear likely, or even possible just two years ago. At that time. I found a swollen lymph node. When testing was finished and it was finally identified, I was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive lymphoma (PTCL-NOS) that was in stage IV. After four months of aggressive chemotherapy involving eight different chemotherapy drugs, the cancer immediately returned. When hope was almost gone, your prayers called down God’s grace. Suddenly, there appeared a clinical trial of an experimental drug targeted solely at relapsed lymphomas. It was expected that a little over one third of patients would respond to the drug. Due to the cancer’s rarity, there were just two of us that qualified. Both of us remain in remission, thanks to God and your prayers. Sobering it is when I ponder the fact that, of all who were diagnosed two years ago with this type of cancer, 75% are now gone. And, many of them did not have the degree of disease that I did. No one can seriously believe that this is a mere coincidence. I am reminded of God’s faithfulness, and your persistence in prayer, on a daily basis. I am willing, but unable to repay anyone for all of this, except to simply say “thank you”. May the gracious Lord continue to bless each and every one of you.
God is good! May He continue to work more miracles in your life.
Continuing to pray for your health and peace of mind …

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,

Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death

Going back to the first post, it is apparent how much the Lord loves each of us. At that point in time, it appeared that I would soon need a stem cell transplant to replace my compromised immune system. Since there is no known donor whose stem cells come even close to matching my own, it seemed that my children would be the source of donor stem cells. However, they are not a close match either. There is a percentage of recipients who do not survive the transplantation process. Of those who do, the body, to varying degrees, rejects the stem cells and begins to attack itself. In my case, that would have been substantial, due to the mismatch. This would give me perhaps 1-2 years of heavy medication, an extended hospital stay and poor and steadily declining health. I find that survival rates are calculated using even patients on life support. In other words, the outlook was grim.

But, your constant petitions have called graces down and I remain an anomaly in cancer treatment. When doctor visited me during my infusion yesterday, he told me that my last set of CT scans still showed clear. This, of course, is a great relief, but I must prepare for the scans which will no longer be clear. However, God’s love has clearly been shed upon me through your constant prayer petitions. I thank the Lord for His goodness. I praise His name, because He is due all praise that we can muster. I thank Him for His own sake, and for the love of my brothers and sisters in Christ. Amen.

We had our Priest over for dinner last evening. I was discussing God’s grace and how, at first, it did not appear that I would survive past 2008. He reminded me, “but you had your plan (to die), and God has his”. I instantly recalled the saying: “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans” I was guilty of listening to the world yet again! And so here I am, thanking the Lord for all who pray, both for others and for me. Amen!

May God bless you always Jim

Our Father, which art in Heaven
Hollowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven

Give us this day, our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us

Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil

Amen

Hail Mary, full of grace
The Lord is with thee
Blessed art thou amongst women

Holy Mary, Mother of God
Pray for us sinners
Now and at the hour of our deaths

Amen

Glory be to The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be
World without end

Amen
