This is why I'll never send my kids to public school

This week just about everyone I went to high school or college with has been pushing the pro-homosexuality agenda on their facebook page (I grew up in NC and they had a vote this week on a constitutional amendment to define marriage as between a man and a woman).

I can look back to the 10+ years ago when we were in school and say with certainty that these seeds were all being planted back then by our teachers and mentors (and now many of these people are teachers themselves). Some of these people were even converts to the Catholic faith, and I see that they now label themselves as atheists.

Anyway, the things they are posting on Facebook are militantly pro-gay agenda and many of them are saying hateful and spiteful things about Christians. I don’t even have kids yet but I am starting to really worry about the kind of world they will grow up in. I just don’t know how to protect them from these influences. Part of me thinks this issue may eventually come to bloodshed.

What do you think is going to happen in the future with this whole thing? Will Christians be persecuted for rejecting gay “marriage”? Do you have any recommended reading so we can educate ourselves more on how to answer those who oppose us? It’s such a difficult issue to discuss in public when you will most likely be labeled as an ignorant bigot who is unworthy to speak or to vote! 😦

If left unstopped, the West will be under the plague of heterophobia. I’m already preparing ways to combat it if/when/once it reaches here in the Far East.

Be in the world but not of the world. Do what you can to elect public officials that agree with Church teachings, and if you choose to do so peacefully protest against things that are morally wrong, but also and to me this is a biggy…

realize that you are responsible for YOU. Act the way you should. You are responsible for teaching your children. If you choose to send them to a public institution and let them spend the majority of their time during their formative years being around people who will help to develop their conscience in a way that goes against what you believe, don’t be surprised at the results. Many will say that in a couple of hours a day you can undo what is done in 6-8 hours a day there. But you won’t. You’ll be busy running them to soccer and making dinner and dealing with regular family stuff.

The Bible clearly teaches that parents are to train up their children in the way they should go. Parents should teach them the right ways, when they rise, as they walk, when they sit down. Basically ALL the time. You can’t do that if they are in school all day with people that are indoctrinating them with opposing beliefs and opinions.

As they reach middleschool/ highschool age, YOU can teach them about the things of the world that they will face. Homosexuality, Abortion, premarital or non marital co-habitation, etc. etc. You can help them form their world view from a Biblical stand point with the Church as your guide.

Bur seriously send them to school, even sadly many Catholic schools, and don’t be surprised when the influence there, from their peers and teachers, is way stronger on the formation of their conscience than yours is.

I know full well as I hit the submit button, all the naysayers will rise up. My advice to you though is go to CNN or any other main stream media source and view the World as it really is out there, see what our culture now accepts as morally OK, see what rights it is fighting for, and prove to me my thoughts are wrong about the raising of our young children.

Schieffelin, I completely understand. Did you see the new thread about the NC vote? I just replied that I had the same reaction from many of my FB friends, really angry, :slapfight:awful name-calling, etc.

I believe you are so right about some of our public schools and wish Catholic schools were more affordable for everyone.:angel1: I’m a grand-mother now, and worry about these agendas being pushed by militant people who force their lifestyles on others. If I were a young mother now, I’d go for Catholic school or home schooling.

I mentioned on the other thread that I’m simply posting up, on my own FB page, classic artwork of The Marriage of Mary :nun1:and Joseph,:knight1: as well as The Holy Family, :heaven:and also some excerpts on the Sacrament of Marriage:highprayer: from the Catholic Encyclopedia. It’s my way of taking a public stand :yeah_me:without getting into all of their ugly name -calling.
Blessings,

I believe you are so right about public schools and wish Catholic schools were not so very expensive. This is a problem(editing to say I’m referring to the expense), but sadly even this fact aside, a large portion of children in Catholic Schools and their parents hold to the same values and beliefs in many areas as their public school friends. While the teachers, hopefully, share the values of the Church, even that is not a given. Many non-Catholics also attend the schools, and in many of these Catholic schools, as we have seen on CAF, you will find such things as lesbian parents, co-habitating parents and much approval of birth control and contraception. Honestly, unless you live in a district with really Orthodox Catholic Schools, you are not much better off in the moral/values department then you are from any other school. You may get a better education, but as for a formation of Conscience, don’t count on it.

I actually agree with you heart4home. It was my experiences of public school that have made me realize all of this slowly. I literally consider it a miracle that I came out of school with my faith intact (and thank God my parents sent me to an orthodox Catholic school during my formative pre-highschool years). Things did not turn out well with my brothers who went to the same high school.

I never wanted to home school but I now see that in my future if the Lord chooses to bless me and my husband with children.

No, I haven’t seen that post yet! Good for you for posting lovely religious pictures instead of getting sucked into the vitriolic debate. I must admit I’m afraid to do anything at all on Facebook because of how it will affect me professionally (I’m “friends” with most of my colleagues and my boss on facebook and I’m sure they are pro-gay marriage).

I assure you that Catholic schools are not immune from this stuff either.

It is getting pretty ugly out there. My daughter is rebeling pretty hard right now. I used to pretend to be pretty liberal. Her dad and stepdad are. Most people around us are. She watches “Glee,” “Family Guy,” and whatever else she wants at her dad’s. Her teachers, peers, etc. are also mainstream.

God bless everyone. It’s rough out there for our babies. :grouphug:

I agree. There are a few here and there that are very good though.
But there are also good public schools. In my area, the public schools are better on several levels. It depends a lot on your location.

I am not an expert :o But, from what I have seen with friends & relatives. The best route is either to homeschool or to send them to a very traditional Catholic school, one affiliated with the TLM/EF Latin mass. I see the difference in the children, the values they have,
how they behave, how they treat others, etc.

By contrast, it saddens me to see children in public schools or in main stream Catholic schools :bighanky: The outcome is very different… Our future looks bleak…:o

Holy Mother of God pray for us!

Pax :highprayer:

Good in what way? Academics? Public Schools in the U. S. and Canada at least, are all slowly being forced to offer a curriculum that shows alternative life styles as normal, and none of them are void of children that are watching t.v. and media that teaches morals that are anti-God.

There are definitely schools that have a higher rate of children coming from homes that have a mom and a dad that attend church and hold to some Christian Values. There are few to none that have a school completely full of children that are not being exposed and indoctrinated with morals that are anything but Catholic either by the school itself or by the media they are allowed to view at home

The moral demise of a nation always precedes its ultimate demise.

God chastises every son (and daughter) whom He loves.

We are in for a very rough ride, if this doesn’t stop quickly! God will only put up with this nonsense for so long before He chastises the whole country and culture!

First of all, in the future and even now Christians will be persecuted for MANY things. I live in NC also and I could not be more proud of the many fine people who came out and supported this ammendment. In response to OP’s issue about the messages on Facebook I say this: I am not on Facebook so the BS that goes down on there does not affect my day one bit.
