So true. I just recently saw our priest get down on all fours and pick tiny pieces of the Eucharist out of the carpet and eat them immediately after the last person received. We have a very orthodox and faithful priest.

I agree with the Real Presence, but this opens the door for scrupulism. Nobody is willingly stepping on the Eucharist. If the particle has diminished in size so much that it is closer to dust than bread in appearance than the RP has passed.

Wrong. We ought to be very concerned about how Our Lord is treated and make painstaking efforts not to spill particles of Him. This is why you should receive kneeling and on the tongue.

How is it wrong to say when the accidents of bread have become the accidents of dust the RP is gone. Did the dry skin flakes of Jesus hands keep the RP after he washed them off?

Not every particle small enough to be consumed by a vacuum cleaner resembles dust.

The prescription about being dust refers to fragments that really are so tiny as to be unrecognizable. If you know an object that you are looking at, however tiny, is a fragment of the Blessed Sacrament, you are recognizing it for what it still truly is. Such a small fragment is still due the same reverence as any fragment of any other size.

Many people unfortunately receive in the hand but then do not even look at their palm to be certain there is no visible fragment there. Sometimes, there is. Those who receive in the hand ought to be very careful about this, and should not be concerned that someone may think they are scrupulous. They can assure themselves that if they look carefully for a fragment and do not see one that they have practiced due diligence, but they should not neglect to take that care. If that is too difficult, then simply receive directly onto the tongue.

It baffles me how people practically SHRUG when they walk up, snatch The Lord from the hands of His consecrated and pop Him in their mouths like a Tylenol or a potato chip. Leaving crumbs and the like everywhere.
That’s a very judgemental thing to say. Shrug? Snatch? Pop them in their mouths? How are you able to notice and pass judgement on everyone receiving? Don’t seem very reverent of you as you prepare to receive if you are able to notice so much.

If you see crumbs being left everywhere, why aren’t you on your hands and knees picking them up?

Personally, I have never seen particles or crumbs anywhere.

Where’s the coffee? They said if I suffered through this there’d be coffee :coffee:

I’m not being judgmental, i’m pointing out what I’ve observed after I received and said my prayers. It is disturbing and hurts Our Lords Sacred Heart. If you believe that is Christ, I’m of the opinion you should be kneeling and receive Him with a quiet and reverent submission from a priest, or perhaps a deacon if necessary. No extraordinary lay ministers unless its an extraordinary situation (ie thousands of people and only one priest available). No receiving in the hand either because while I’m aware that canon law permits reception in the hand, I think it should be reversed for the irreverence it brings. Our hands were not anointed for confection of the Eucharist, nor holding Him to feed ourselves. Our heads were anointed and thus that is the appropriate place to receive Him by His hands.

No, really, people sometimes literally reach up and grab the consecrated host out of the priest’s hands.

No. Just no. A consecrated host does not magically become unconsecrated…

Better catechesis for sure and imo opinion receiving while kneeling, if possible, would go a long way towards that. We kneel and even prostrate ourselves when we enter the Adoration chapel. But in all cases whether standing, kneeling, on the tongue or in the hand why not use a paten? Also if one does receive in the hand the Host should be consumed immediately.

I was watching Mass on tv and almost everyone that received in the hand turned and started walking before consuming the Host. I have seen the grabbing at those large outdoor Masses.
