This teacher married her girlfriend. Then she was fired by a Miami Catholic school.
Parents at a Miami Catholic school are demanding answers after a beloved teacher was fired just days after marrying her partner.

First-grade teacher Jocelyn Morffi lost her job at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School on Thursday, the day after she returned from her wedding in the Florida Keys.

“This weekend I married the love of my life and unfortunately I was terminated from my job as a result,” Morffi said in a post on social media. “In their eyes I’m not the right kind of Catholic for my choice in partner.”
Also from the article:
Morffi married her partner of two years last weekend and returned to work on Wednesday, Reyes-Gutierrez said. She was called into the principal’s office that afternoon and told that she had to resign. Morffi refused, according to Reyes-Gutierrez, and was fired the next day.
I am floored by how obtuse some people can be. How can a person be a Catholic and not know that the Catholic Church does not allow gay marriage? She may have been a good coach, but I hope she didn’t teach anything requiring intelligence. Some of the parents aren’t much brighter.

Uh the answers will be found in Scripture and Tradition. Look for the teachings of Jesus on marriage that He passed on to the Catholic Church.

I trust they will look into every employee’s personal life and fire those who are divorced and any who are living together outside of a Catholic marriage and whatever else employees do that is considered sin by the Catholic Church.

Catholic school teachers have a morality clause in their contract. If they are in a situation that causes scandal there will typically be released.

Divorce alone is not scandal. A teacher in live in situation with no marriage would be problematic, especially if it made to be widely known. A teach that makes it known they are sexually active outside of valid marriage (i.e facebook, membership in advocacy group, editorial, newspaper announcement, etc.) is going to though of as scandalous.

This is nothing new. It always amazes me the number of don’t know or understand it.

To add to this, the teacher was pretty obvious that she had married her partner. The school didn’t have to go searching to find something.

One parent, Valentina Simon, said she considered withdrawing her child from the school when she heard that Morffi had been fired based on her sexual orientation.
This parent doesn’t have clue what they are talking about. The newspaper probably doesn’t either. Although it is possible they let the erroneous qoute stand because they have an agenda.

I did not see anywhere that she had announced the wedding, but judging by how fast she posted the termination on social media she was probably pretty open about the marriage too.

I don’t understand why all these gay teachers are attracted to Catholic schools. Must be some subliminal thing going on. Maybe they possess a daredevil gene that compels them to infiltrate the enemy. Who knows? Something is just not right in the head with these people, I mean besides the obvious.

So it sounds if something is hidden or covered up, that’s okay.

You appear to be saying all that matters is what the Catholic Church considers to be mortal sin. A teacher apparently can dissent from teaching otherwise.

It was mentioned divorce is not mortal sin and the gist of the responses here is that it matters more if something is made known.

Blessings,
We have forgotten how God created us to be pure when created. He gave us Commandments to live by. We are celibate for life unless married. Married ppl are celibate when not w spouse. Meaning if a romantic urge comes on, and a gorgeous specimen passes our way, we are celibate or faithful.
Gender confusing issues are real problems but there is suffering for all in life. Being celibate may be uncomfortable. But, purity is the requirement. IF YOU LOVE ME, KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS.

This is a tempest in a teapot. Most of the people objecting aren't even connected with
the school, and i would think most of these aren’t Catholics.
The fact that some parents object simply shows that they don’t accept (or know) Catholic teaching about this. These people can be handled by meeting with them and gently explaining Catholic teaching. If they don’t accept it, this is more the parents’ problem than the school. If some of them withdraw their children, with all the publicity over why what has developed, likely enough other parents will want to put their children in the school.

It has to do with public scandal.

Every teacher sins.
However this teacher now teaches this sin to her students as she has made it part of her public life.

I am not sure what you are getting at here. I’m not sure if you are familiar with contracts that many Catholic Schools have. These contracts often times include oaths of fidelity to the faith and list specifics in which are grounds for contract termination. My brother’s kids belonged to a school that listed several examples of contract breach. One of them was simulating marriage when one is not free to marry and simulating marriage to a person of the same sex. Divorcees can teach in Catholic schools. They can get married if are free to Marry. I know a local case several years ago where a teacher at the school had an affair and ended up divorcing his wife and simulated marriage with another woman. That teach was fired. He tried to sue but the case wasn’t even heard. Parents threatened to leave and board of directors for the school volunteered to help find another school for the kids. Within a few years almost all of those families had their kids back at the school.

No it’s more practical that that. If she walks down to HR to try to get benefits for her “spouse” then administration knows she living contrary to church teaching. If she doesn’t announce it then they simply just don’t know about it. The morality of her “marriage” doesn’t change.

Same with any church teaching. A teacher who marches in a white supremist group and has their picture in the paper will get fire for advocating something against church teaching. If HR doesn’t know about it how do they fire him/her? That doesn’t make the the morality change.

I trust that police will start monitoring every speeder to give the appropriate number of tickets to every driver???

The teacher is the one that went public. I would hope they would have the same stand, let’s say, for someone who left his wife for another woman.

Delete the word “all” and you would be on target. What happened here matters.

A purely doctrinal stand might be relevant under some circumstances.
the responses here is that it matters more if something is made known.
Yes, it matters more if it is known as then the sin of scandal is also an issue. With children, that gets God’s millstone of the month award. It would have been jointly shared with the principal had action not been taken.

Lesbian experimentation is a real problem with teenagers today. Those that work in the public school face this all the time. Just last week two were caught in the bathroom of all places. Catholic schools need to provide a safe alternative for people of the Catholic faith.
