how did protestantism do away with early church fathers?

because they believe in sola scriptura?

i don’t think it is misleading because they do not believe in the Pope.

i am a new Catholic, so this is all new to me.

it is too bad there was the schism in 1000 and they did not try to work things out then. i understand that life was rapidly changing back then and the different languages, etc.

Interesting, isn’t it? In Catholicism, there are two forms of rift: schism (not standing with Peter) and heresy (not standing at all with Apostolic Succession.)

Schismatics have all seven sacraments but waver a little doctrinally because they lack Peter.

Heretics waver much and have only two sacraments.

In one form of the story, Jesus feeds the multitudes of 4,000 withe seven loaves and a few fish.

In the other form, he feeds 5,000 with 5 loaves and 2 fish.

PEter is the fullness of apostolicity, all five sees reside in His Tradition. THe orthodox have four Sees.

so the seven loaves and a few fish are the orthodox, the five loaves and two fish the West, Peter, where heresy has reigned.

I find it an interesting coincidence.

Just as Catholicism has five sources of truth:

God as Trinity and Incarnation
Peter
General Bishops and Tradition
Scripture
Reason

The Orthodox lack Peter, and so have only 4 sources.

Schism in the 4,000
Heresy in the land of 5,000.

There is one great thing about the Greeks and Romans that live on to this day … olive oil! Man I love stuff.

are you saying the schism between the 2 churches arises from the pride of 2 cultures both wanting to be right or “be the true church”?

It seems we will: HH Benedict XVI has been dropping the filioque, the insertion of which was the cause of 1054. A good start.
 
Well, that explains her earlier thread asking when Rome was going to denounce its heresies and tell everyone to be Orthodox. I’m glad you’re making a clean breast of things, Christy.

By the way, do you now understand that limbo was never dogma, and never taught or pomulgated as dogma? I offered you clear evidence in the other thread, and you never refuted it, so I’m assuming the misunderstanding has been cleared up.

If you’re going to leave, just be sure of what you’re leaving. You seemed to have some pretty big misconceptions in the other thread.

I’m glad, at least, that you seem to be leaving because you truly believe you’ve found the “true” church – even though I disagree with you. It seems to me some people go to Orthodoxy because they want the “smells and bells” of Catholicism, but the want the ability to divorce and use condoms, as Orthodoxy permits. But those don’t seem to be your reasons, which I think is good, at least.

Oh yes. We pass the condemns out right before the Little entrance in the Liturgy of the Word. And then after service we wife swap and divorce on Monday so we can remarry on Saturday, and start all over on Sunday.:eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: (one for each patriarchate).

Not once have I EVER heard of ANYONE coming to Orthodoxy over contraception, and I’ve only heard of someone coming for divorce from followers of the Vatican who, like the above, seemed not wanting to face the fact that someone had found something in Orthodoxy. Liturgy, icons, Church Fathes, sound liturgics, sound theology, no development of dogma, Apostolic practice, etc but no condemns or divorce.

I certainly don’t think it’s *that *bad in the Orthodox Church, but if this is the common behavior at your particular parish… perhaps you should find another?

Yes, because for them there is nothing else but the Bible, and thus they have generally neglected the Church Fathers.

Our parish priest constantly talks about the evils associated with contraception. And like the rest of the Orthodox, our divorce rate is the lowest of any group in Divorce Land USA.

I’ve never heard of it either. I never cease to be amazed at the condescending attitude of some Catholics. They just can’t imagine why a person with half a brain could ever disagree with the Catholic Church on any matters of substance. If you become Orthodox it’s because you want to divorce or use contraception or my favorite, you “hate” Catholicism. The arrogance is absolutely stunning.

And they wonder why we have the attitude we do sometimes. 🤷
