.Do you know what “pollyanna” means or are you just in love with typing that word?
I know precisely what it means, where it comes from, and the people here that exemplify it.

And my post was pretty clear that we don’t have all the information. I was also pretty clear that I did not necessarily agree with the comments about walkie talkies, whoredom, or any of the other insinuations… It’s just tiresome when your kind instantly pounce on anything resembling an old school thought regarding discipline.

Despite all my qualifications in my post, you felt compelled to jump at me to quash even the possibility that one of those “harsh” terms might be accurate. Yeah, I’d say I know a pollyanna when I see one.

And I still don’t see the correlation between Protestants acting badly vs Catholics. That’s a wash. Heck, every election cycle the majority of Catholics vote for politicians that support infanticide. That’s true of many protestants too. I know parents from both religious views; their influence on their children or lack thereof is pretty much identical.

FWIW I have a 3 year old daughter and I see no reason why she would ever wear a thong while living under my roof.

I am a man, so maybe I don’t know all of the intricacies of female underwear, but to my knowledge the only reason to wear a thong is to appear sexy. Am I right? If so then there is no reason why a teen should be wearing one.

As a woman and the mother of 4 girls, the oldest is 25, the youngest is 2, I agree completely with you on this one. Not in my house. And as someone who is pretty flat chested myself, the main reason to wear a padded bra, especially for a young girl is to make her breasts appear bigger. Not really for that one either…

Well, of course your 3 y/o isn’t going to wear a thong.

The reason to wear a thong is so that underwear ARE NOT seen. No panty lines.

Now if she’s getting naked, then they are for a totally different reason.

I’m sitting here, a former ballet dancer, and wondering… Should I tell them we don’t even wear panties.

From my observations growing up

Girls that weren’t allowed to experiment with makeup grow up to be those women who look like clowns at work. Because NO ONE taught them how to put on make up to lightly enhance their features. One should say, “Wow, what pretty eyes.” NOT “what pretty eye shadow.”

Dressing appropriately requires certain undergarmets. We are now in a world where hose are NOT ideal, and are considered very unfashionable. Because of that, underwear (which used to be forgone with panty hose) NOW need to be seemless. No one wants panty line. TACKY!

A thong is good for this.

Regarding female problem do to an ILL FITTING thong. Please note: ILL FITTING are the key word. Certain cheap materials and poor construction are the cause here.

Does a 16 y/o need to be wearing them? depends on what else she is wearing.

And a padded bra does in fact go a LONG way for certain breast shapes that become on high alert should the temp. drop.

We should not fear undergarmets. Pretty sure of that!

I understand, but if a girl is flat chested, I don’t see the problem in wanted to appear fuller. I guess as long as the padded bra and thongs stay covered, there’s not a problem.

See, again, I’ve been in a dance studio with women who virtually have NO breasts. But they have very large nipples. Sorry to be blunt. A padded bra is EXACTLY what they need in cold weather. Otherwise it’s quite distracting. This really goes for any size breast.

I can see the padded bra in certain anatomical circumstances for a teen. I still cannot see a thong. I cannot see it as apporopriate. My wife has never worn a thong. I never had a girlfriend who wore one. Maybe the women I was with were tame. 🤷

Tough to believe that we have 70+ posts of what basically amounts to the official underwear police thread. Sigh.

Calling it old school discipline seems rather P.C. How about calling it hitting? Or beating? Those terms are more descriptive.

Just so we’re on the same page here: my dictionary says a pollyanna is “an excessively cheerful or optimistic person.”

I do not consider it excessively optimistic to require evidence before being open to the possibility that someone is a whore. That’s not pollyanna behavior, it’s just plain charitable. Wouldn’t you agree?

Well, yes, that kind of is the point – you can’t see it. Other types of underwear tend to be more awkwardly conspicuous, depending on what you cover it up with.

Assuming it is appropriately covered and invisible, how can any type of undergarment possibly be “inappropriate”? Presumably she’s not going to school in just the thong.

Well, yeah. Honestly, this is like a conversation about whether it is OK to wear underwear that :blushing:…are bright red!

Anyone who thinks they throw girls out of Catholic schools for wearing thongs as underwear needs to talk to someone who actually teaches in one. Think again.

I’m not sure why your daughter is going to grow up and give you any details of her life while she is living under your roof, or even after that, for that matter, if you are too prone to blowing gaskets. Calm down, Dad, or some day she’s going to clam up on you like she’s invoking the Geneva Conventions. Make her clam up for the trivial stuff, and she’ll learn to stay under your radar at all times. That is not good. You do not want her to be in the habit of hiding from your guidance.

Let us educate you: It is a matter of running one’s panty lines where the body naturally has indentations, anyway. Thongs don’t make “panty lines” under pants made of a silky fabric because their seams run at the waist of the pants and in the cleft of one’s behind. At the other end of the scale, “Granny panties” go all the way from the natural crease where the buttock meets the leg up to one’s natural waistline. The elastic and other seams of most panties other than thongs and Granny panties will show under a fluid fabric, even if the pants aren’t tight, unless the pants are lined, which is rare these days. Even if the pants aren’t made of a fluid fabric, to be blunt the elastic leg holes of even the thin and seamless non-Granny panties will make an impression in the buttock that shows through a great many pants, even ones that are not tight, especially if one’s buttock is a bit, um, padded. It’s some of the other underwear that show to the whole world, not thongs and Granny panties.

A lot of women don’t like Granny panties because they don’t seem pretty and feminine to them, but like boxer shorts for females. That’s only an opinion that some women hold, but some women and especially girls do see them that way.

Bathing suits with thong “bottoms”…that is a whole 'nother story!!!

So a girl might have ONE WHITE PLAIN thong for ONE outfit? Unless she is a debutante or something- a girl who is always going out in high evening fashion?

So a thong is like a cumbercun for a guy? Only applying to the MOT rare circumstances?

If that is what we are talking about then OK- as a man ignorant of women’s undergarments- maybe in that most select setting it would be fine.

The insinuation is that the woman’s morality is defined by her underwear.

Have worn thongs. Even in my teens. They can be quite appropriate under certain clothing. Have only been with one man. Would not date a guy that quizzed me about my underwear. THAT is for sure!

And let’s see, if you had chaste relationships HOW WOULD YOU KNOW, your girlfriends never wore a thong? Did you ask? Did they show you? Or did you just have un chaste relationship with girls in granny panties.

Im a therapist and certainly don’t seek to close off communication channels with my daughter as she grows, but I don’t want to think that she will be trying to dress sexy. I see too many girls around with inapppropriate clothing on.

Many of the details you have conveyed are totally alien to me. Now I wonder if my wife goes around with other women looing at the underwear evidence through her clothing!!

Women are so confusing!!

Well, if by “high evening fashion” you mean 95% of clothing designed for women… and why on earth should you or anyone else care what color it is when you can’t see it? It’s her clothing, if she likes red, then she should get something red. Even if she is only wearing it because it’s “sexy” – so long as she’s not showing it off to anybody else, there’s nothing wrong with a teenager wearing something that will make her feel sexy. I would go so far as to say that, f you are a father, your teenage daughter’s underwear is never an appropriate subject of concern for you. For your wife, or for an adult woman with whom your daughter is close, maybe, but never for you.

Oh, well I had unchaste relationships before my wife. These women had, like “half thong” things. I don’t know what they are called.

I am outside of my realm here. 😊

OK if we are talking 95% of fashion I am simply ignorant. I get it. I had pre-conceptions! My wife doesn’t wear this kind of thing!! GOSH!
