Thongs!

I’ve worn thongs and sexy underwear and padded bras as a teenager but the only man to ever see those was my husband… after we were married.
But why would a teenager wear sexy underwear?

Folks have presented me with valid reasons for wearing thongs. I was pretty ignorant of these issues and now I have been informed and I can understand the need or desire for them in a girl’s attire repetoire.

I still don’t see a reason that a teen girl should need to own “sexy” underwear.

I feel the same about some girls I see in ridiculous swimsuits and absuredly short shorts. I am talking the more outlandish stuff we have all seen kids wear, not regular 2 piece suits or normal shorts or those strap shirt things. I’m not a prude but MANY kids are just dressing inappropriately.

Just wait for the thread on men’s underwear!
Just go to a beach anywhere in Europe. GEEZ!! What’s up with European men and their TEENY TINY bathing suits! Just make them look silly if you ask me.

Frankly, I think thongs are disgusting and yeah, you’re right, they sometimes do leave different panty lines. When they don’t, it appears as if the woman isn’t wearing any underwear at all, which apparently is a choice for some women. At least the ones in Hollywierd. I don’t wear old fashioned granny pants but if I’ve given a choice between looking like I’m wearing underwear or looking like I’m going commando, I’ll always choose to look like I’ve got a pair of underwear on. 👍
Underwear are not meant to show under one’s clothing. There is nothing particularly modest about selecting clothing that lets them show.

The same reason she likes china and silver and jewelry. Because they seem pretty. As long as she knows they’re pretty, she does not have to care that no one else ever sees them.

David O. Selznick, producer of Gone With the Wind, understood this:

*Ann Rutherford, who played Scarlett’s sister…was asked if it was true that the actresses in Gone with the Wind wore silk petticoats under their hoop skirts. “Absolutely,” she replied. “I told David he could save a lot of money if he used flannel petticoats as I did in westerns. He said maybe the audience wouldn’t see the petticoats, but the actresses would know they were silk.” *

Unfortunately, people have lost the idea that what you know about yourself and other people don’t is part of what makes you attractive…that is, you are more attractive if you don’t try to look for outside validation of every aspect of yourself that might please you, and feel any need to compete with how others might have some pleasure in themselves. That need to compete for approval is a recipe for immodesty, and we are drowning in it.

But why would a teenager wear sexy underwear?
Because it was fun and made me feel pretty.

If you try to understand the workings of a teenage girl’s mind, you’ll drive yourself insane. Just let it go and don’t jump to conclusions so fast next time. It’s just underwear!

It’s not a “NEED,” it’s just fun and there’s nothing wrong with it.

If you want to talk about modesty of dress, that’s a completely different topic.

That’s the thing about underwear. You don’t SEE it. That’s why it’s underwear.

Not sure why you would feel the same way about UNDERWEAR that is seen by no one except the people who wear them, as you would about a young woman running around a public beach topless or going to the grocery store in shorts that look more like thongs.

Two entirely different things.

It’s a cultural thing. I’m sure if some indigenous member of some tribe in Africa who wear nothing but butt flaps came to America, they’d think OUR clothes were very silly too.

Cultural norms of dress change depending on where you are in the world.

When you are old, you may feel differently. (Not that there is a single thing wrong with feeling ill at ease when imagining what is meant to be private.)
Though to “the young” sex in the elderly may seem off-putting, we need to grow-up and realize the sexuality is a human trait and older adults do and should evjoy this aspect of life. This negative attitude can even be said to be a trait of agaism- though I must admit I sometimes feel a little weird about it- but I’m working on it.

We are all getting older and we will all be there. We don’t, and shouldn’t, turn celibate when we are older as long as we are married.

Kind of my soap-box having worked as a social worker with older adults. 🙂

But western europe IS OUR culture! You see some, but much fewer, American men wearing what amounts to the lower half of women’s swimwear at the beach.

BTW I don’t have a strong opinion on the matter. I’m mostly just having fun here- perhaps at the expense of our middle-aged to elderly German beachgoing brothers. 🙂

There certainly are plenty of differences between our culture and the culture of any European country. I’m from Brazil and most men there also wear speedos to the beach. Though it was a lot more common 20 years ago than it is now. My dad and little bro both had speedos when we lived in Brazil, but quickly switched to swim trunks when we moved here. Lol I remember my brother at 6 years old coming home from one of his first pool parties in the US and complaining to my mom that all the boys were making fun of him for wearing a speedo. Tee hee!

LOL I figured as much. 😃

I also hear German ladies don’t always shave… 😊

It’s not the same culture, believe me. Perhaps the Puritans fleeing Europe for religious freedom set the tone for future generations of Americans, but there are definitely very different attitudes towards the body and sexuality (and breastfeeding and food and alcohol consumption) between Europe and the US.

I get quite taken aback every year when the swimsuit threads appear. Over and over again.

I can’t imagine, for instance, why a man would want to have soaking wet fabric flailing around his legs in the water and then sticking around them when he goes out when he can wear a normal speedo and just swim.

But I can very easily imagine a chaste teenage girl enjoying wearing pretty and feminine underwear that no one else sees. We all wear underwear and some underwear is more feminine and even attractive than other - there’s “feminine” and there’s “attractive” and there’s “sexy” and there’s “slutty” and there’s “pornographic” and sometimes the lines between these arbitrary categories are not all that clear - but if no one sees it, it can’t even be said to be sexy or attractive. If there’s no one in the required spot to see it, a rainbow doesn’t exist. If no one is sexually aroused or attracted by someone’s underwear, it’s not sexy or attractive. It’s just pretty to the person wearing it.

I personally hate thongs, to be clear. Along with make up and high heels and other torture devices that are supposed to make women more attractive. But there’s nothing objectively “unchaste” or “untamed” about women who wear them. I certainly force myself to for rare special occasions where the formal dress or pantsuit I wear would otherwise expose panty lines. And that’s not exactly appropriate.

Yup.

My brother, after all these years, still claims to like speedos a lot more than the huge swim trunks men wear here in the US. He says the speedos are a lot more comfortable and practical. But of course, they are not socially accepted here, so he has to stick with the trunks.

It is what it is.

Interesting part about the heels. They were never uncomfy to me. Not even 4 inches. Until I broke my leg, and was in a cast forever. When I went for physical therapy and could not move my ankle for anything IMO, my PT told me I had average range of motion. I was blown away to learn that what for me was gimp status was “average” for most women.

I can see how many women compare them to torture devises. But it actually took being “in their shoes” to have that clue. Which is why I think others might want to consider that some of us don’t actually feel tortured. They just can’t imagine it.

Yes, of course. I only meant that it is better not to spend a lot of time imagining what other people do in private. It is perfectly fine for married couples of any age to do what married couples do, but most of us would appreciate the privacy of knowing that no one else spends any of their CPU time imagining what we married couples do behind closed doors, either. In that sense, RealJulianne’s point was well-taken…not that it shocking that older people have sex, but rather that it is probably better if married people refrain from talking too much about their sex lives in front of unmarried teenagers.

IOW, way TMI.

I can’t believe how some people are here judging this poor girl and her parents. Don’t people understand the pressures of today for boys and girls???

She wants to feel pretty and stylish. Good for her, what girl doesn’t? Would you be wearing granny panties if you were her age??

News flash for everyone here, Granny Panties went out of style 15 years ago, same with white Granny bras. Big breasted women years ago had to wear those ugly bras with no support and would be jiggling everywhere, thank god for undergarments that contain them.

Thongs, Brazilian panties, boy shorts are the style nowadays, women of all ages wear them for comfort and style, let’s get with the times. What teenage girl doesn’t shop at Victoria’s Secret or LaSenza? It doesn’t make them sex-crazed girls, it makes them feel good about themselves.

I think it’s more weird to see women in their 40’s and 50’s still wearing old fashioned bras and underwear. Get with the times. Every fashion magazine states the most important outfit for a woman are proper fitting bras and underwear.

My wife does not have 1 pair of granny panties and all her bras and panties are from Victoria’s Secret, is she wild too?

Let’s stop judging kids for what they wear and more for their actions.

Thanks
