I’m wondering why this thread is awkward.

I think I know what you mean but for some reason when I have similar thoughts, it’s followed by sensations of:
a broken nose
smashed skull
a stabbed gut
broken ribs
bloodrained
soul-drained
enslavement
twisted neck
shivers Hence, why I try not pretend I have x-ray vision.

Sounds like you have a totally normal 16 year old sister who is trying to find herself.
If she was raised properly then she wont be out having sex or doing drugs.
Did you ever think she might be buying these clothes to try on in private because shes confused about the person she is? She’s this perfect angel and the girls at school are “sexy devils” lol… she might want to know what all the fuss is about…so in the comfort of her own room she tries on diff clothes thats shes seen the other girls wearing.
She probably felt the need to hide the thongs because she is ashamed that shes exploring her self image… ashamed becuz she knows that you and the family would be all over her *** for it (which is exactly what you guys have done).
Shes developing her self image. Give her space, love her…dont treat her like shes some unholy criminal in lock-down.

As Catholics, I don"t think we should have to “find” ourselves. We have objective truth made available to us through the church"s infallible teachings. We find ourselves by giving ourselves fully to Christ… and we should never have to close any bedroom doors to do that.

Sorry, but that sounds like a load of bunk.
Yes, as Catholics we have the truth of Christ. But that doesn’t mean that we never have to figure out where to go next. Or how to get there. That doesn’t mean that we never ask ourselves what does God want me to do next. If we never have to stop and discern what to do next, the seminary should never have anyone drop out. There shouldn’t even be a discernment process, because everyone would know what to do and when to do it.
This is about a young girl. She is exploring her options. None of the options sound evil or against God, so what is the big deal??? She wants to wear thongs and padded bras, who cares? These are undergarments. No one sees them.

In the case of padded bras, it can be somewhat noticeable but only under certain circumstances.

Padded bra’s are great. They help hold things in place and give better support.
especially after breastfeeding 2 babies…thank God for padded bras!!

I too think this 16 year old girl is acting very normal for her age. I don’t see what the big deal is either
I would let her be or maybe encourage her to do things with the family more often.Not a big deal at all!!! She’s not doing drugs or having sex…she’s at home under her parents’ roof!!

My mother is French Canadian (from Montreal) so I was raised wearing make-up at age 12 and wearing lingerie beginning around age 16. My mom bought me age appropriate make-up at age 12…you could barely see it on me…it was light shades of eye shadow and pale pink lipstick…not a big deal.
When I turned 16, my mom bought me Lancome makeup and showed me how to use it. She introduced me to skin care and hair care. She took me out to buy some pretty dresses and told me that they looked great on me. She also introduced me to black skinny jeans and told me to never wear any other colour than dark blue or black for skinny jeans, so it would look classy. She introduced me to cute black ballet shoes to go with my skinny jeans (and of course a matching purse).
Perhaps it’s the French culture, but our French moms teach us how to be lady-like and fashionable at a very young age. It’s in our blood.
There is nothing wrong with it. It is healthy for a woman to feel feminine. A 16 year old girl wants to feel like a little lady…she is yearning to feel feminine and beautiful.

Thongs are a part of life for all women. (They should be anyways!)
I’ve have girlfriends who were Christian and exclusively wore thongs and I’ve had Atheist girlfriends (when I was younger) who didn’t wear thongs and were quite liberal sexually.
I think it is ridiculous that some people here associate girls that wear sexy panties and sexy bras as sex-crazed teens.
I think everyone here wants their son to dress like a gentleman and their daughter as a feminine lady. Styles change people and to me there is nothing more tacky on a woman than seeing panty lines on a nice dress or breasts hanging down on her stomach because she isn’t fitted properly.
Let girls and women feel as good as they can about themselves and if it’s a thong or padded bra good for them!
