What do you make of those who have died and are alive again and say they have seen heaven (or hell)?

My issue would be with the first part not the last. I have no doubts that God, in His wisdom and mercy, has allowed people glimpses of Heaven and Hell. I doubt that they were truely dead in the sense that their souls left their bodies. God can allow them the vision without that part ever occuring.

I do not think that there have been that many people raised from the dead when Jesus only did it a few times himself.

The thought kind of came up in a conversation I had with a friend who said there was a man in Africa who had died in a car accident and was dead for about a week and then was alive again. This man claims that he saw Heaven and that when we die we will not remember anything. My friend argues that this disproves the belief that the Saints can hear us.

**Well, he clearly remembered SOMETHING when he died and came back to life.

You don’t get by reason from this propostion to “the Saints can’t hear us” anyway.

However, I would recommend you read a book by Fr. Seraphim Rose THE SOUL AFTER DEATH, which examines various supposed after-death experiences from the standpoint of Orthodox Christianity.**

I will look into it. Thanks! 🙂

Remind him that nothing takes place without God’s will. The Saints can hear us if God allows it.

Likewise, he was shown what God allowed him to see (assuming his story is accurate in the first place).

What about that Scripture passage where Jesus says no one has seen Heaven? or was it the Father?

Um, plenty of people have seen heaven and come back. I’m thinking Moses, and a couple other old testament guys, and minimally Mary who have all “come back” since their heaven experiences. nevermind the angels…Satan,…
