Don’t you think keeping women out of prostitution is more important than any economic concern?
And how does one keep women out of prostitution? It hasn’t been done successfully so far in human history. Again, the legalization of prostitution is not the moral condonation of prostitution, just accepting the reality that the law is grossly ineffective in preventing prostitution.

By legalizing prostitution, as they have done in Holland and in some Nevada counties, the state then can control the trade and tax it.

The amount of women willingly going into the pornography business and the prostitution business is not affected by the law. So by legalizing prostitution (not pornography) the state can benefit by taxing it and reducing the control by organized crime.
In my opinion, pornography has no socially redeeming qualities at all and is pure perversion and shouldn’t be legalized for any reason.

I used to think that way. Then I realized what happened with Roe v Wade. Never again will I condone legalization of sin.

Unfortunately, and correct me if I’m wrong, doesn’t pornography fall under the protection of the same First Amendment that guarrantees our right to worship within our own religion? That being said, pornography is not going away, and thankfully, neither is our freedom to practice our religion and live according to God’s calling.

Pornography is nothing short of evil, and the only reason anyone is in that business is for the money. We live in an “anything for money” world. But, I’m hoping there are more of us than there are of them. We should do what we can to voice our disapproval and combat it, it we can. And after reading this thread, I am going to do something that I have been wanting to do for a long time. Every day, on my way to and from work, I pass a topless joint that sports one of those electric marquee type signs. And every day, this message flashes for all to see “Your wife called and said its OK.” This irritates me so badly because marriage is hard enough sometimes without crass society always offering cheap thrills. The manager of this place obviously does not care what wives think of their husbands going to his place, or what kind of problems it may cause within their families as long as he gets his money by peddling the flesh of women who allow themselves to be used like that. So, it may do no good, but I am going to initiate some kind of letter writing campaign to voice my opinion regarding his stupid, little sign. Any suggestions?

Yes. The arguments used by the A.C.L.U. to defend pornography are based in the First Amendment.

Outlaw the A.C.L.U.?

Do I detect a note of sarcasm in your question? If that was not your intention, sorry. No, I was not speaking of writing the ACLU, but the owner himself. May not do any good, probably won’t, but at least he will know that not everyone approves of what he is doing. Silence sometimes equals agreement.

You seem to state this as a matter of fact. I don’t believe it.

I hear you when you say the law has been unable to stamp this out completely. But it does not follow from that that we should make this horrible crime legal.

Making prostitution legal is not making it moral. Legality and morality are immiscable, like oil and water.

I do not agree with prostitution, but compared to pornography prostitution is the lesser of two evils. 😦

I just wanted to indicate that the A.C.L.U. defends every immoral occupation in the United States, including pornography, as long as it confronts any basic, conservative, wholesome, family value or custom.

Just try and get the A.C.L.U. to defend a white person whose civil rights have been violated by a minority person - they won’t do it!
