It is not that I don’t like them. They are violations of the rules of the game. Thought experiments are all based upon a certain ground rules, and they are not supposed to be modified. In the trolley scenario you cannot introduce new possibilities, like changing into a superman and save the people on both tracks. In that specific example you only have two options, either let the trolley mow down the five INNOCENT people, or flip the switch and kill the one, also INNOCENT person. No extra “tricks” are allowed. Then why do you attempt to “disallow” analyses that you don’t like?
According toe Catholic ethics you are not allowed to act against INNOCENT people. But in this case, both options will kill INNOCENT people. So both action and inaction will lead to the death of INNOCENT people.
And since not all evil acts are equal, you are expected to choose which is the “lesser of two evils”.
