Ringil, Cmatt, BVM 1221, what do you think of your party? Specifially, what do you think of the comments from the leaders of your party that you support? Are you okay with them?
Ishii
Ishii, for the convenience of me not having to repeat what has already been answered, assuming you have not ignored anyone, reread from the first page posts 4, 7, 13, &14. You will find your answers within.

Most people on the left are not pro-abortion, but they are pro-choice. This means they believe the decision regarding abortion should be left (no pun intended) to the woman and her family, her doctor, and her spiritual advisor, if she has one. People on the left believe that the decision concerning abortion is a personal decision which should not be mandated by the government or by the religious beliefs of any one faith. We agree with Barbara Bush, Laura Bush, Nancy Reagan, and the late Betty Ford on this issue.
Mandated? There’s that word again.

I do not know where your getting those numbers from, but they are no accurate.

This will give a huge advantage to the Republican nominee who will promise to repeal it.

Medicare has options and plans, it is not one option.
For the Democrats I added 27% believing it will improve their lives + 55% believing it won’t make much difference = 82% not believing it will make their lives worse.

For the Independents I did the same thing. 19% believing their lives will be improved + 43% believing it won’t make much difference = 62% not believing it will make their lives worse.

For Repunlicans I didn’t even have to do the math in my head. It was already added for me that 60% believe it will make things worse for them. They were the only group in the poll who thinks so.

I know such rhetoric is red meat on the GOP campaign trail. But a potential President does not just repeal a law. You’ve got the House and the Senate majority and the Senate minority to deal with.

Like a public option would have provided not one option.

I suggest that the research might be needed on your part. My conscience is clear. I would imagine it takes a fair dose of rationalizing to consider a party that demonizes the poor as having some kind of moral advantage over another. The Republican party may call itself pro-life, but many of its actions contribute to the causes of abortion and none have achieved its stated goal of reversing Roe v Wade. Where’s the advantage in that for the baby yearning to breathe?
Perhaps it is you who needs to do research … twice a ban on partial birth abortions [a most brutal form] have been passed by republicans only to be vetoed by the Lords of the Left …

I suggest you read Star Parker “Uncle Sam’s Plantation” … see her web site here:
unclesamsplantation.com/

Perhaps you will understand how failed social programs have hurt the very people they are designed to help. I believe that we need to assist the poor but government programs are rarely the vehicle to do this … to really help people takes facing issues and working smarter … not just throwing a one size fits all government handout.

However - it defies common sense to think that it would ever help the disadvantaged in your neighborhood by sending money to Washington - rummage around the halls of congress - to some government agnecy with its associated policies and proceedures - make its way back to the states, counties and cities - and only then be distributed to cure some social ill and create wealth or prosperity …

I am a conservative … in PDX there is an organization called Join - that succeessfully transitions people from the streets to permanent housing … they avoind public assistance … why? because it usually comes with strings attached that - as one director told me several years ago “sets people up for failure” … this group [check them out here: http://jo(name removed by moderator)dx.com/ ] has homeless persons [and/or former homeless persons] on their board - they talk to the people they serve and they do wonderful things … and help families and individuals …

Just one example of things they do - they do is work with landlords - not to reduce rents below market values but in other ways like bad credit history forgiveness… this helps people meet the realities of rent - not permanent subsidized government provided housing …

This Mediaite writer, a self described liberal, didn’t hear “blacks” in Santorum’s speech.

Last Wednesday Santorum said on Fox news:

“If you look at it, what I started to say is a word and then sort of changed and it sort of – blah – came out. And people said I said ‘black.’ I didn’t," Santorum said. “And I can tell you, … I don’t use the term ‘black’ very often. I use the term ‘African-American’ more than I use ‘black.’ … I think sometimes you want to give someone the benefit of the doubt if it’s a little bit of a blurred word.”

His words were unclear and the context had nothing to do with race.
They were only unclear if no one knows what bLL people are. I don’t even know why he started to use his BL word in the first place. If he realized mid-sentence he shouldn’t say “black people”, he wouldn’t have been speaking to many African Americans anyway. Not that many African Americans vote in Republican primaries. Only about 5% or !0% or so of African Americans have voted Republican in general elections. So I wonder if the BL word was just code or something to GOP voters.

I read those posts and I didn’t see any reference specifically to the infanticide supporters in the Democrat party that you support. What do you think of the pro-infanticide Democrats? What do you think of your party?

Maybe the Republican party hasn’t been so successful in achieving its pro-life goals because so many catholics think like you and vote for the pro-abortion Democrats. With “pro-life” friends like you, who needs enemies?

Ishii

Obama supports abortion, the homosexual agenda, muslims, and gives away billions of dollars of our hard earned tax dollars and you want him re-elected? This means you support those things too.
What’s wrong with Muslims?

The Daily Kos describes the attitude well:

“I meet you all the time. You hate Obama. You hate gay people. You hate black people, immigrants, Muslims, labor unions, women who want the right to make choices concerning their bodies, you hate em all. You hate being called racist. You hate being called a bigot. Maybe if you talked about creating jobs more than you talk about why you hate gay people we wouldn’t call you bigots. Maybe if you talked about black people without automatically assuming they are on food stamps while demanding their birth certificates we wouldn’t call you racist. You hate socialism and social justice. You hate regulations and taxes and spending and the Government. You hate.”

Ishii, you must have missed the discussion then about how neither party is perfect. I think more of the party I’m currently a registered member of than I do another or else it wouldnt be my party. 🤷

Yes, and the Nazi party wasn’t perfect either - they made the trains run on time and all, and instituted lots of social welfare programs, but the whole “final solution” thing, I’m glad I didn’t support the Nazis for that reason and that I supported them for the other issues.

That in a nutshell is what you’re saying, Cmatt. You need to open up your eyes.

Worth considering. I think with all the fighting we have going on in the GOP primary process, Obama remains the favorite to win next November.

He has a 47% approval rating, which really shocks me…and Bush had similar approval ratings at this time in the process and he obviously won re-election.

We will see how things look after the GOP gets a firm candidate, but right now it does not look very good. Sadly.

Further complicating this is the fact that Romney looks like the likely candidate and I am guessing he will not poll any higher than McCain, so the election will be tighter, but will more than likely end with the same outcome as the last election.

With the pain this nation has suffered, Obama’s approval should be in the 30s, the fact that it is so high really tells the tale for the next election since so many people just do not blame Obama for the nation’s troubles.
Dan Rather said that if the election were held today Obama could very well lose in a close race.
1-9-12:
Gallup has information about Obama’s standing in addition to this poll that 40% of American voters are now independents.
Obama approval/disapproval in Gallup: 42% approve, 49 disapprove. Among white people, Obama is down to 35% approval. In 2008 he had 43% of the white vote. Among Hispanic people, Obama’s at 46%, down from 67%. By age-group, Obama is at 47% approval among voters under 30. In 2008 he got 66% of their vote, but now he’s at 47. He has been in a downward trend for two years.
Among voters 65 and older: Obama at 41%. He won 47% of their vote in 2008. In the East, Obama’s approval at 52%. But in the South, the West, and the Midwest he’s at 40%.

And since Republicans are evil incarnate its ok to support the slaughter of the innocents. Nothing new here-just the usual Democrat Catholic attempt
to defend the indefensible.

I love the way 50 million dead children is dismissed as "well nobody said we were perfect

Matt, you seem like a rational person. So, since I really do not know the answer to this question, would you say you for or against legal abortion?

😦 Sigh.

But I think Obama will win again, just because the GOP candidates are all so bad. I’ll list some of my personal problems with each:

Gingrich: If he doesn’t keep his marriage vows which are much more important than what he is saying about politics, then why would he keep his word about what he will do in office?

Romney: Can’t decide what he wants to believe. especially with abortion, and that is not a good sign.

Huntsman: Who?

Santorum: I like him for gay marriage and abortion, but every where else he is too right-wing for me. Very conservative in everything you can imagine.

Cain: Doesn’t seem very smart. I don’t know if he knows what to do in office.

Perry: Can’t figure out what programs to cut. Doesn’t know what he will do. All he knows is Obama is “socialist” and that’s bad. Or so it seems.

Bachmann: Way too right-wing politically. I don’t think she even really cares about abortion or gay marriage either.

Paul: he is libertarian, so he already starts out bad. I like his opposition to abortion, but I feel like it’s just so it can be made a state “right”. Plus I doubt he is against gay marriage.
Do social programs, or foreign policies, or economic policies, matter much when we are busily killing 1.3 million unborn babies every year?

Do you think those dead people (aborted) care about those other issues?

Isn’t the very act of placing those other issues above the innocent lives of the aborted a form of choosing who should live and who should die?

Don’t you think that the most vulnerable human life are those living in the womb?

How can any other program matter if there is no true love for life?

The census reports that the number of youths (age 0-18) is lower than it has been since the 1940s. Yet, over the last 18 years we have collectively killed 22,000,000+ babies through abortion. How healthy would our economy, along with the various social programs, be if we had those people to care for and support?
