"thumbs up" Jesus statue?

I’ve seen this statue everywhere throughout the internet. Where is it? Who made it, and what is its context? My guess is that this is an example of “the spirit of vatican ii” God likes you where you are, and doesn’t care if you change. etc. Can anyone verify this?

 
It is from the movie “Dogma”, it’s the “Buddy Christ” created by Cardinal Glick (George Carlin) It was not created in by anyone in the Church. You can thank -]Matt Damon & Ben Affleck./-] Kevin Smith (Silent Bob), he wrote the screenplay.

the movie dogma.
Something about “Jesus doesn’t want you looking at a depressing Catholic crucifix amd wallow in your sins, he wants you to be happy”

Or at least that’s wha my friend told me about the movie, I’ve never seen it, but she was talking about it once and mentioned that lol…

Ok, So our parish priest showed that picture and called it “Buddy Jesus”. I thought he just made it up. It is nice to know that it isn’t standing outside a church somewhere. Although, I think it is reflective of Hollywood’s opinion.
 
I’m sorry I really do not like that statue 😦

I think it is disrespectful to Our Lord.
 
Ya, in the movie, I think they put this in the church so when you walk in, Christ is pointing at you when you come for mass and giving his thumbs up in approval. I think it’s funny and not really disrespectful…but I see others disagree completely.😛
 
well, I’ve heard about 3 lines from the movie, and it was enough to confirm to me that Dogma is just another example of “let us make Christ in our image and likeness”
 
Well, I think that may be part of the problem. Jesus is not our buddy, He’s our Father. I was in total awe of my earthly father. I respected him, he guided me, disciplined me, taught me right from wrong and I trusted him implicitly. He loved me completely, but never once tried to be my friend or my buddy. All those things should apply 100-fold to our relationship with our heavenly Father.

Well, that’s not exactly how Jesus explained his relationship with us:
And the multitude sat about him; and they say to him: Behold thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. And answering them, he said: Who is my mother and my brethren? And looking round about on them who sat about him, he saith: Behold my mother and my brethren. For whosoever shall do the will of God, he is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

It is actually a really funny movie. Well, at least in my opinion.

Now, the film, at least in my opinion, isn’t actually a direct attack on the church. It just uses Catholic imagery and motifs in a funny manner. I really feel that everyone needs to relax.

Some Jesus statues (not all) depict of what one would think Jesus would look like (as a matter of position, facial expression, etc. This movie version is just that. I think it’s fine that Jesus is smiling and giving his thumbs up to the fact you are coming to church. Who says Jesus doesn’t like that?

I love the movie and I definitely don’t see this statue as any disrespect, although I can see why others would think differently. I don’t take the movie seriously.
