TIA and SSPX

I’m in 100% agreement with you! With all the great Catholic sites on the net, I really have a hard time understanding why anyone who claims to be a Traditionalist would use TIA as a reliable source for what ever they are promoting. 🤷

Actually, I can share a good reason. Many of the topics they analyize and discuss are not discussed elsewhere, or are discussed in only a limited fashion.

On cultural, historical, and moral issues I find them a unique and valuable source on many subjects,and I do not feel I can say I have encountered enough negative to outweigh the positive I have experienced. Each Catholic must judge for themselves, though, the propriety of analysis in particular matters, and use their best judgement in discerning the life of Faith. For thus did God give us reason, to perceive Faith. Let us use it as He intended. I encourage everyone to be open and remember, as St. Thomas reminds us, “Against a fact, there is no argument.” If we use this as our guide in our journey, we shall surely not stumble. :cool:

Eve, Can you give a link on TIA that is not negative about JP II, B XVI or the Vatican since V II?

Nothing I could find, although the list of things on each that come up when you do a site search can be depressing!

There may be five reasons for this:
  1. They may genuinely dislike the previous and current Holy Father, as well as the Vatican, and therefor have an ax to grind.
  2. After all their research has uncovered (alot, apparently) they have lost respect for them, which they may have had before and cannot help but let their new feelings show now.
  3. They may have nothing positive to share in their perspective.
    4.They are closet sedevacantists.
  4. They believe there is enough positive press on their behalf, that they need not add to it to make their point.
I have no evidence for #4, in fact the available evidence seems to be against it. I also have no evidence to prove #1. Based on what we know, #2, #3 and #5 are plausible, and it is probably one of these.

This does not excuse their behaviour in this regard, necessarily, since we should all venerate the office of the Holy Father even if we feel he is wrong. In fact, the SSPX seems to have more reverence for the Holy Father than TIA does. SSPX even praised Pope John Paul II on the ordination of women issue and defended him from liberals. They also praise Pope Benedict regularly. Why TIA does not follow this example, I do not know.

I repeat though, that I do not think that this diminishes the quality of many of their other articles. They may have a point about the Holy Father’s actions as well, only their rather negative tone makes it less palatible than it may have been otherwise. We should pray that they continue in their good works, and grow more in humility vis a vis the Holy Father. Let us remember many of our dear saints, St. Padre Pio included, were blunt and could be rather unpleasant in their presentation sometimes. Perhaps this is one instance, though, where we need not follow their example. 😃

Let us feel the same for TIA.
