The dispute began innocently enough as a disagreement between parents over the menu at a masquerade ball for home-schooled teenagers.
But then came one parent’s filing of a civil rights complaint against the home-schooling group, alleging it had refused to accommodate her daughter’s allergy to chicken. After the ball, the group expelled her family, prompting a claim of retaliation.
More than a year later, with lawyers involved and the Fishers-based group considering disbanding, a new legal challenge could turn on whether the intervention of a state agency threatens such a group’s religious liberty

Did the menu consist of one dish of chicken, and nothing else to eat? Why could their daughter just skip eating the chicken? The world is full with people with strict dietary requirements; they take care of themselves, they don’t expect the rest of the world to cook around them. Sorry Mommy, your child may be the center of your universe, but she will have to learn to live in a world that eats chicken. Oh, and thanks for being petty enough to file a lawsuit over it, now the courts are involved way beyond the orginal dispute, and home schooling itself is now in danger of being regulated by the very govenment serious parents want to avoid.
