I would not worry about this…Tim Tebow plays football…things that are ingrained in the language of football will safeguard any Catholic and in fact will cause any non-Catholic to ponder…Mary is the strength that will cause football to cause that ponder…

As an aside having been to the Phillipines many times…other than Protestants the Mormons are quite active there too…

Getting back to football…the history of football is tied to Mary…next time you look at where a football player comes from …every time you see that they graduated from

Notre Dame…they gradutated from “Our Lady”…the Fighting Irish…can’t help but think of the catastrophe of the Irish Catholic…as it regards the Protestant imports…however close your eyes, imagine, that your team is behind 6 points, the clock is ticking, only a miracle will save the team…the ball is hiked, the quarterback steps back, there is chaos and WOW…there it goes…

A Martin Luther pass…no
A John Calvin pass…no
A Henry VIII pass…no
A Christian pass…no

Forever and a day just let Tim Tebow and his dad bite their teeth into the day when anyone and in particular Tim throws a “Hail Mary” pass…can you imagine how in the world they will expalin this…as the announcers aren’t going to say…now Tim…you were back on your own 2 yard line and you threw this Hail Mary Pass…and Tim says…now lets get this straight…it was a miracle but no Hail Mary…excuse me Tim…just a minute my dad is on the phone…my dad says you can’t call it a Hail Mary pass…so what are you saying Tim…it was not a Hail Mary pass…no, you see I am a Christian and my dad…and now a word from our sponsor…cut to Notre Dame…and the fighting Irish…👍
The Hail Mary pass…😃 Interesting take. which never crossed my mind. 😉

I think the biggest plus about Tim Tebow is that he sets a positive example for all Christians to be more vocal about their faith. I wish more people, public figures and regular folks alike, would wear their faith on their sleeves like he does.
👍

To bring mention, attention, and praise to Our Blessed Lord is a good thing indeed.

The Hail Mary pass…😃 Interesting take. which never crossed my mind. 😉
It was always there…do you think or believe that man created the notion of “subliminal”…God is always working to bring people to the truth of His Church using Mary…as good as any apparation…next time you see these Protestants filling a stadium…Hail Mary will forever be linked to every stadium in the nation where American football is played and just try to stop an announcer from saying…“the only thing that will help them is a Hail Mary pass”…

**
Hail Mary-Football-Hail Mary-Hope-Hail Mary-winning-Hail Mary-hope and a prayer…**

you really have to love Jesus and his Father with the work of the Holy Spirit putting those words into American Football…where will we see God evangelizing His people next…

we are the co-workers…we just have to see where God is working and dig in…encourage people to watch Tim Tebow, encourage people to hope he throws a pass and hope that it is that Hail Mary…one…

I love Tebow Time, he has done more for Christians then most and his courage on issues like abortion are outstanding!

Where is the Catholic version of Tebow? That is the million dollar question.
The Catholic version of Tebow is Jesus Christ: in that it is not about the the person, it is about Christ. There are millions of Catholics at any given moment doing what Tebow has made himself famous for, we just make it about Christ and not the person.

What Tebow has done is taken prayer/Christ that belongs to Christ and made it his own and is now the latest protestant celebrity to hit the scene. That is the sad thing about protestantism is that ultimately it always ends up being about the person and not about Christ.

Example, why is there only one Joel Olsteen and one Lakewood mega-church? Because people go to see Joel first, and Christ second. If it were not about Joel, there would be no need for a stadium converted into a church. He could have several ‘churches’ scattered about teaching about Christ. But, if he did that, the celebrity status would fade.

On the flip-side, the Catholic Church is 1000% Christ first, it is not about the individual. I can attend Mass at any Church and it is the same message. I do not have to seek out an individual to receive it.

The same with our personal life. Do we make a spectacle of our Christ-like actions, or take a back-seat and give all Glory to Him.

(my first post on CAF, i meant for it to be short… my apologies if i rambled a bit much) 🙂

When he said he was building a hospital in the Philippines I initially thought “why”? It’s a poor country to be sure, but its not like we aren’t already doing that. You know, why not just join in the efforts that are already on-going? Anything else would create opposition and division.

I thought, protestants never go to the Islam or pagan countries, they always go to Catholic countries, and twist the gospel. It’s easier that way, piggybacking off our work.

Reading how they don’t think there are hardly any Christians there says they don’t consider Catholics as Christians. Usually, this leads to very anti-Catholic behavior. Usually.
One of my buddies was a Catholic missionary in Mexico. Why Mexico, you probably wonder? Isn’t it Catholic?

Well, his mission was working on reconverting the former Catholics that the Protestants had sent missionaries to convert. :nope:

By the way, the tactics many of the Protestant missionaries used to convert Catholics was very underhanded. They blamed many of the ills of the conditions down there on Catholic stance towards alcohol, for example.

Player X just got arrested for drugs…

Player Y just arrested for spousal abuse…

Player Z just arrested for a bar fight/shootout…

I would much rather hear of a player who credits God for all the good in his life then the above mentioned (and there are sooooo many more stories like that). Right now, Tim Tebow is the sports world “golden boy”, when his team looses the Big Game, then all the Tebow hype will fade away.

I love the stories on Tim Tebow BECAUSE they are God centered and NOT Tebow centered (at least by him).

For the record though,GO TITANS!!!😃

Wow, four pages already?

I would like to hear how Filippino Catholics feel about never having heard the Gospel.
It is after all thier country.

I would rather hear about Tebow than the athletes who are in the news for drugs, alcohol, assault, rape, etc.

First you admit that Philippines is mostly Catholic (in fact, 80% Catholic), then you defend Bob Tebow for saying that most Filipinos “have never once heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ” by claiming that he was talking about the people in the “outlying islands” (there is no such thing as an “outlying island” in a country that has experienced three centuries of Spanish missionary activity). That a population can have two mutually exclusive majorities is truly a feat of arithmetic that I would very much like to learn how to calculate.

Given this, it’s not unreasonable to believe that Bob Tebow is insinuating something about Catholics, unless he has truly failed his arithmetic, in which case I’m sure the people he’s ministering to would be more than happy to teach him. 😃

Much as I believe that this topic could be possibly targeted more at Tim Tebow himself than his father, there’s no need to be so defensive of Bob Tebow when he insists on a misguided and offensive attitude towards Catholics. Tim Tebow should not have to share in his father’s sins unless he actually believes in them himself, and this topic is not about Tim Tebow.

I think I may be missing something out here about Tim Tebow himself since I do not follow American football, but it does seem clear that his father has some very questionable beliefs. The vibrancy of the Church in the Philippines is something you must experience for yourself, and only then will you understand the deep offense that Bob Tebow deeply incorrect and mindless statement causes to our Filipino brethren. 🙂
My point being that a true Catholic cannot be “converted” to Protestantism no matter what Bob Tebow tells them.

I haven’t read anything or heard the man speak so I don’t know what he is saying about Catholics. Protestants usually bad mouth us anyway. Again a true Catholic cannot be converted. IMHO

Maybe protestant football players don’t mind calling it “Hail Mary” because they don’t think the play will work…

or they’re throwing it so high they need to shout “Hail! Mary!” so she doesn’t get bopped in the eye by the ball.

The Phippines is predominantly Roman Catholic but many are nominal in faith due to the lack of catechesis.

Protestants number about 2 to 5% of the population.

My grandmother and I really enjoyed listening to Billy Graham, and last night I read a small booklet providing the testimony of an Evangelical and his stand against abortion. It was edifying to read his testimony.

I think we need to focus on evangelizing our faith to such Protestants here who hold incorrect ideas about Catholics.

As a Person of Filipino heritage… Catholicism has always been part of our rich cultural
History and national identity, in the same way Portuguese / Italians, Mexicans / Hispanics / Poles / the Irish hold it as a part of theirs. Although yes, there have been alot of Protestant movements in the past decade, lke Jesus is Lord or the Church of Christ, I doubt this will ever gain any significant ground to the point that Protestanism will be embraced wide scale by a majority of the population. The majority of Filipinos are still very rooted in their Catholic faith. For instance, every major Catholic Holy Day is almost always observed with great reverence… The church has always played an important role in politics as well, and is often considered as the third party after the House and the President and often vetoes decisions that oppose Catholic values and act as a check and balance to keep the ultra-corrupt in check (ie: RH Bill, Marcos regime, etc). Church and state are strongly tied in that country and perhaps the only relationship that still exists in the world.

Convert the Philippines into evangelicals!!! :rotfl: If the people who live in the Philippines are anything like the Filipino catholics around where I live its not gonna happen. They are some of the most hardcore catholics I’ve met. Good luck buddy. :hypno:

For over 10 years, one of my favorite hobbies is to play fantasy football.

To see Tim Tebow threads here is just :banghead:

I have nothing against the kid but :manvspc:come on, lol.
