After reading the article above, a suspicion that I as well as numerous others have held for a long time has been confirmed. The media is actively trying to tear the Church apart, at least in the US. In an effort to create as sort of self-fulfilling prophecy, the leftist media machine makes it look as if the Church are so divided on critical issues that eventually there will either be a major split, or the Church will “change it’s mind” on its long-held dogmatic teachings on issues like abortion, homosexuality, married and female clergy, etc… In addition to the clear distain for Pro-Life protesters, the Time article directly attacks the Pope by painting him as either complicit in Obama’s anti-life policies by “secretly” agreeing with them, or being inept and lacking in control over rebellious Catholics, or lowering him to being simply a slick politician who plays good-cop-bad-cop. This sort of thing just drives me bonkers. This isn’t news media - this is propaganda worthy of Gobbels.

If it is any consolation, TIME does not have the readership it used to. But of course it does reflect the views of the national elite.

well, i guess it could be a little bit of both. it definitely has its own political agenda and wants to portray Obama in a good light.

i remember when i was a young adult college student and i thought magazines like Time and Newsweek were to be believed. i saw them as very relevant and the stories really defined our times. now i realize what a foolish, gullible young college student i was.

In the absence of a particular statement from the Pope they choose to fill one in that seems to make it as if Catholicism and socialism and abortion are Catholic positions. Because Repub positions are more in line with Catholic thinking (if only because Dem are so far out) they paint it as a political issue motivating Catholics, which violates charity. In the absence of proportionate reasons, a knowledgable vote for Obama was sinful, which shows how far off this article is.

But since Time is playing the geussing game, I will, too. This administration appears by its actions so virulently anti-Catholic (and therefore anti-Christ) that the Pope to be direct would cause more harm than good to the faithful at this juncture by picking a political fight. Christ endured humiliations without returning fire, which He could have.

I would imagine the Vatican is thinking “How do we help these people see Christ?” A direct confrontation will not help when the theological position is so clear already.

The mainstream news media doesn’t report the news - they make the news. They put out whatever they want people to think and then they just keep pushing their latest find until they want to put something else out.
Yes, it is propaganda under the guise of being news.
The news media somehow believes it is privy to information no one else possesses and they have a large audience that believes that too, which is what they want.
