But it’s a known fact that insurance companies pay for such things and any dioceses which insures employees will end up using those companies. …

The Archdioceses of Boston, purchases private insurance through companies here in Massachusetts, Those companies pay for abortions, birth control and sterylizations.

Also, I know that my dioceses also purchases health insurance coverage from the same companies here in MA.

Just because your diocese purchases insurance from a given company doesn’t mean the coverage is in the contract. Check your policy carefully. I’d bet abortions, birth control, and sterilizations are excluded.

“Nø, they can’t.”

The contract doesn’t specify what the employer chooses for coverage, but what the insurance company covers according to state law.

The dioceses purchases the insurance and it’s up to their Catholic employees to follow Church teaching on the issues.

Then they have a bone to pick with the state also.

I have a question about these diocese that apparently cover birth control etc. Are they being legally forced to purchase them?

I think that’s what the big deal is. The federal governmen is trying to make it illegal for Catholics to follow their conscience. That is a big deal.

If they want to mandate companies to do things in this mandate it shouldn’t be this. Too many insurance companies omit things like eye care and no dental care. The president should be (but is not) complaining of this, and this effects men women and especially children!

Also, wish that ALL of the bishops felt the same way as Cardinal Dolan. Our diocesan bishop wrote an article in the paper about it, but he cautioned that this should not be discerned as a “political thing”! Of course it’s a political thing! The Obama administration and most Democrats are pushing it. It’s sad that all of the Bishops aren’t agreeing with this but would rather tout social issues (and this mandate will infringe on these).

I think one of the reasons that Catholics aren’t behind banning these mandates are some of the poor examples of their Bishops.

Code:
In addition, State mandates that will bear on some are
enormously different from FEDERAL mandates which will
bear on all. **To force a certain immorality by law** as defined
by the obamaplan is an obscenity.

I was under the impression that the SCOTUS can solve this all for us in June. Are we anticipating that they will not strike down the mandate or the healthcare law?
How does their ruling affect this situation?

Well here, they just purchase health-insurance from private companies of which birth control and abortion are part of the package of coverage. I checked out all 5 health available health insurance companies before purchasing my insurance. They all covered abortion. There is no more alacart choices in health insurance. The only option was the level you wanted to purchase and all it meant was, how much out of pocket expenses you’d be liable for.

Face it, insurance companies rather pay for birth control and an abortion, than child birth along with the possible problems a woman and child might have. It’s in their economic interest to pay for it, so they do, unfortunately.

To me, this leaves the decision up to the insured to use right moral judgement.

Obama Care is the daughter of Romney Care, which I happen to like, so the nation shouldn’t be too uptight over it, if the court rules in favor of it.

Confusing its it? The employer mandate is a seperate issue from the individual mandate. Unless SCOTUS shoots down the law in it’s entirety, the employer mandate won’t be effected at all.

I agree with you, Jim. I believe God gave us freedom of choice so that we woud use it wisely. Why have freedom of choice is there is no choice. Catholics will follow their faith no matter what the options are.

Jim

If Catholic institutions don’t want to deal with the Federal government that is fine. However they should not take a single dime of taxpayer money for their institutions. That includes hospitals, universities and charity programs. The Church can’t have it both ways.
The Constitution isn’t restricted to those who take money from the government. It is our right to free exercise of religion just by virtue of being in these United States.

The “government” money taken by hospitals is MEDICARE and MEDICAID. They accept these (extremely poorly paying ) forms of payment for services. You infer that the hospitals are just getting goodies from the government. No, they get the old fashioned way, they EARN it. It’s not like the green energy boondoggles that Obama favors.

Man, what a mess. I cannot believe the situation we are in in this country.
What happened?😦

It’s called a majority of dems in the both the house, senate & whitehouse. When both branches of government are run by all one party (dems or reps) we end up loosing.

The problem with leaving the moral decision up to each individual is the fact that the moneys that go into the coverage, be they employers or employees are going to go for paying for everyone elses decision to contracept or abort…there are quite a number of abortions that happen in this country every year. Catholic organizations would be complicit in murder by paying for the choice women may make to contracept or abort.

As far as the “accomodation” goes…well, there was only a promise of an accomodation. The President actually that same evening signed into law the original mandate without any “accomodation”…he has yet to really, legally, accomodate anything. Should we trust that he will? I wouldn’t trust that man as far as I could throw him! He has this nasty habit of saying one thing and doing the opposite.

Most Catholic institutions use Catholic self-insured plans. They’re made especially for the Church, the pool of people being covered by them work for the Church, and they don’t cover these things.

This is why the Catholic insurance you get when you work at a Catholic school is so lousy compared to what you get when you work for a public school. It’s not as nice, but it doesn’t include birth control, abortion etc.

So they are “lousy” because they don’t cover those things?
