This news actually throws me for a loop. I was under the impression that throughout the first 800 million or so years of earth’s existence, it was in a state of being molten rock (a period known as the Hadean – named after Hades for its hellish conditions).

Well, it is quite possible that the quartz is shear from a meteorite rather than proof of a cool earth theory.

While I love discovery, it bugs me when we only find one of a thing that is usually an anomaly.

Funny thing is that I’d wish we could find at least three items to prove a theory…but time only teases us with what it leaves.

That could still be the case. This news doesn’t prove that it wasn’t the case the first 800 million years or so. The article doesn’t say that it’s proof. All it says is that it is *support *for an early cool Earth.

Personally, three of something doesn’t prove anything to me, although it would lend more evidence in support of whatever theory is being promulgated.

Interesting. It says at the end that this rick is only about twice the diameter of a human hair! That seems more like a dust particle than a rock to me. 😛

Beware of ‘science’ as portrayed though the mass media!!!
