Other statisticians place the percentage much higher and where the stats are given for specific dioceses the numbers occasionally go through the roof (cf Boston and Saginaw in the sixties and seventies).

There are always studies that can be brought forward to support ones point.

The fact the remains that you have to comb the data for examples of Protestant homosexual predation of adolescents and cases where the churches did not properly discipline the offender.

In our church, in some places, it was an epidemic.

Also with our church we are not talking about “reported cases” but proven cases of repeated molestation by specific priests who were shuffled around by their bishops to hide them.

how about geneolgy search on your family?

So, frankly, rather than getting angry at Protestants who bring this up, I prefer to affirm them and agree with them, and remain and rejoice in the destruction of the clerical culture that allowed the situation to arise and persist.

My uncle lost his job in a public school system and was criminally prosecuted for being sexually involved with a student. It was shameful.

But I don’t spend any time at all looking for examples of other teachers doing the same in order to deflect attention from it.

And I certainly don’t get upset with groups or websites that expose these sorts of crimes.

Prob about 28,000 teachers if they use the same criteria
SALT LAKE CITY — A man honored as among the best teachers in Utah pleaded guilty Thursday to felony sex charges involving 11 students at his suburban classroom.

Frank Laine Hall, 37, who taught first grade in the Salt Lake City suburb of Riverton until his arrest last March, could get up to 30 years to life in prison, prosecutor Rodwicke Ybarra said. Hall pleaded guilty to 10 counts of attempted aggravated sex abuse of a child and one count of sex abuse of a child in a plea agreement that dismissed five other counts of aggravated sex abuse of a child, Ybarra said. The agreement will ensure that he must register as a sex offender for life, Ybarra said.

The twin brother of a boy who received sex notes from teacher Laura Sclater has launched a $2.5-million lawsuit against another teacher, claiming they had repeated sexual encounters including oral sex in a portable classroom.

Check out the stats on Boy Scout Troop leaders too while you’re at it.

Anywhere sexually “mature” young people are under the direct leadership of adults this sort of thing is going to happen.

The thing to do is to do everything we can to prevent it from happening and punish the offenders when it does.

Our church did not do either of these until it became a public crisis.

CATHOLIC CHURCH ADVISED TO SUE ‘SEX-EXPERTS’ WHO COUNSELLED PEDOPHILE PRIESTS
NEW YORK (NY)
Life Site

NEW YORK, January 14, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Dr. Judith Reisman, Ph. D., the researcher who uncovered the fraud underpinning the field of sexology created by Dr. Alfred Kinsey, has advised the Catholic Church to sue the so-called sex “experts” who advised the Bishops and allegedly “treated” sex abuser priests. An article by the Catholic Citizens of Illinois and The Wanderer Press points out that Reisman believes that the ‘treatments’ given to predator priests in Kinsey-inspired therapy sessions were so grossly ineffective, that the Catholic Church and the victims of clerical sexual abuse have a legal claim against these sex clinics for medical malpractice.

I’ll tell you this:

My son will never go on an unsupervised “camping trip” with a priest.

I came into the Church Easter 2006 and I thought it was all over but the parish where my wife and I go has had a former priest there accused of molestation. He is currently in custody and awaiting trial. Apparently, this parish is one of the largest in Charlotte, had been operated by an order and at a later date turned over to the diocese (I am shaky on all the history since we really started attending there).

The reason I bring this to your attention is that while we all would like for all this to just go away and pretend it didn’t happen, it in fact did. We were betrayed and scalized and all we heard was the priests were this and that. This whole affair was one of the greatest attacks by Satan on the Church of all time. So what good can God use it for?

As our God is capable of bringing together the universe out of nothing and creating man in his likeness and sending his son to die for our sins, don’t you think He can turn this to all good? Just because we cannot see clearly as we look through a cloudy glass at reality doesn’t mean we should despair. We should hope in the Lord for He is good. 👍

If Christ uses his standard Heaven is going to be an lonely place
christ only uses my Fathers standard

My Fathers standard is of justice and mercy.

May God bless you with awareness.

So this is what Catholic apologetics has become. “Don’t point the finger at us for the inquisition because protestants did it too. We shouldn’t hear about cardinals who protect child molsters because there are lots of protestant perverts too”. This thread is a digrace.
This thread is a disgrace? Better than the thread about Chick and the molesting of nuns. What about that one? This thread is to show others the abuse is EVERYWHERE. Not just one sided.

Really? Would you then allow him to go with an EDUCATED FEMALE TEACHER? Because it is happening in the public schools also, which has been in and out of the news. So your son isn’t safe with anyone. He would be the safest with a priest.

In 1656, the Friends of Society, also called Quakers, arrived in Boston and were greeted by quite a welcome wagon.
Going back through history to dig up skeletons is not a good tactic for defending catholicism. Which rivals Islam in past atrocities.

Why is it just the negatives you seem to focus on the church has given the world far more than she has ever damaged it?

I can’t think of anyone that has done more to educate, to feed and cloth, and take care of the needs of the suffering

So much we have today was started by the Catholic church, they were the first to give the world universities, and hospitals, homes for orphans…the world is a far better place because of the church than it would be had she never existed

Your point may be somewhat accurate, but the difference is that catholicism learned from those mistakes. Their leaders have even repented of those things. They brought the people back to Christ and His teachings. Islam has done the exact opposite, and they still continue to commit their atrocities. They have been doing it for over 1000 years. But hey…at least they are consistent.

Some priests did horrible evil things.

Some Bishops did a poor job fixing it, and that is an understatement.

Some non-cahtolic clergy do horrible things.

Some peopel doa poor job fixing it.

Some teachers do horrible things.

Some scout leaders do horrible things.

Absolutely no good is gained by thowing stuff back at the other side. My grandmother always said if you fight fire with fire, youa re left with ashes.

Everyone needs to admit HONESTLY what was done and fix it. In Honestly, the problem that the Catholic Church had was homosexual priests going after post-pubescent boys. This is not the same clinically as pedophila, though it is just as illeagal and disturbing. Then, some bishops did not take a hard enough stand on this, moving people or thinking that the problem would fix itself.

Protestants need to see issues that they have, too.

Scouts and school boards as well.
