the St. Andrew Daily Missal
It has the pre-55 Holy Week, but does not hold a candle to Fr Lasance. I also think the Fr Lasance, despite it being much less in quality than Angelus, still surpasses the St Andrew in quality and definitely in content. I suggest checking out or getting yourself a Fr Lasance to be able to compare.

I am looking at missals also and wondering what would be the more content found in the Father Lasance over the St. Andrew?

I’m not familiar with the St. Andrew but one difference I found between the Fr. Lasance missal and the Baronius Press missal is that the Fr. Lasance doesn’t seem to have the Blessed Mother seasonal antiphons. I ended up purchasing them separately as Holy Cards.

The 1st Missal I ever bought was the St. Andrew. A few weeks later, I bought the Baronius Press Missal (SUMMORUM PONTIFICUM edition)

For a few weeks, I had my hands on a Fr. Lasance missal. It truly was awesome, but I preferred using a 1962 Missal since the local FSSP uses the 1962 missal (even if they might do the pre 1955 Holy Week).

I can’t tell you all the things the Fr. Lasance missal has over St. Andrew’s missal, but I did like the Fr. Lasance missal better.

HOWEVER, the Fr. Lasance missal is 100% allergic to water. Don’t get it wet!

There is a good video (even though long) where a ton of missals are compared

I second this. I got a drop of water on a page and lost several words. For that reason and just in general for praying, I do like the Angelus Press Missal as an every day.

This is Dr Taylor Marshall’s review on the Angelus and Fr Lasance. He prefers Lasance but does note Angelus’ quality and best for 62.

Nice vid. Very thorough, but I agree very long. 🙂 Could be hard to sit through whole thing, but someone can fast forward to the missal in question they want to see and get a good look inside.

You know. I just listened to this a 2nd time. I don’t think Taylor ever mentions the Baronius Press missal.

He says the the only by the FSSP and that it is in their pews. I think he’s actually referring to the St Edmund Campion missal, not the Baronius Press missal…?

As far as I know, the one in the FSSP pews is Baronius. I know it is the one they use in their seminaries for sure. Different individual Churches have different missals there that the individual parishes may purchase.

I watched both of the recent videos posted. The first video with the multiple missal comparisons was interesting. What I noticed and the person reviewing the missals mentioned is that the Angelus Missal and the Baronius press missal are very similar. Similar headings, similar photos, some similar layouts but maybe a little bit of difference in the layout. He also mentioned they came out in the same year though different publishing companies.

He also didn’t really show much of he St. Andrew missal which kind of disappoined me because I would like to know more about that one, so if anyone knows anywhere there are good reviews or any one use it and can comment that would be great.

I would like to reiterate that I ended up purchasing the leather variant of the Angelus Press Missal (they released some leather ones to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Society). I’ve been using it for about two weeks now and it’s amazing!!

I would like to comment on the Fr. F. X. Lasance one: I know someone who has it (I have one of his prayer books) and it’s amazing as well! Buy what will be used at your Mass as the F.X. Lasance does not use the 1962.

I don’t know if any FSSP Parishes have purchased Baronius Press missals to be placed in their pews. That would be EXTREMELY expensive.

However, Fr Berg, FSSP (who was the Superior General at the time) was involved with the creation of the St Edmund Campion pew missal book to be placed in pews of parishes offering the Latin Mass. It contained the ordinary of the Mass, plus the propers/readings for all Sundays, Holy Week and important feasts.

While I have a copy of the missal, it was NOT a hand missal. It’s a large book, for pews.

Point is, I THINK that’s what Dr Marshal was referring to, and not the Baronius Press hand missal, which is far more expensive.

NOTE: the St Edmund Campion pew missal isn’t currently for sale, as they are working on releasing version 3

I’ve seen it done. In Italy and other places. They have them out and they are asked to be returned. Usually smaller parishes that put them out. I agree very expensive and not a good idea. There are much better alternatives like the red book or other small and very inexpensive Sunday missals.

Yeah, I am not familiar with these at all, but I recall Dr Marshall mentioning Baronious by name and also saying that he likes everything else Baronious but just not their missals. I have had the exact same experience and so agree completely with that assessment.

I have the St. Andrew, brand new. I didnt get a chance to dive into it, yet, but… comparing it to the Fr. Lasance that I have seen best illustrated on

…there seems to be little comparison. The quality is mediocre. Illustrations lacking. Typeset, really tight. Very little inner margin space. I just ordered the Fr. Lasance from FSSP and can give you a better comparison when it arrives.
