In the name of the most Holy God, through his precious son, Jesus Christ, in whose name I invoke the power to release me and my home, my family from all demonic activity, I ask in all humility and with all the strength that I have left to rebuke the powers that try to gain hold of our minds and hearts.

I will not answer to the constant badgering of the demons who wish to cause strife, hate, separation, violence, indifference in my life and amongst my love ones. The power of the Lord compel these demons to flee once and for all. I will not submit to its intimidation and persecution for my God is Victorious and He is my SAVIOR! I WILL NOT CONDEMN MYSELF OR OTHERS FOR THEIR ACTIONS BUT I WILL LEAN ON THE WISDOM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND HE WILL GUIDE MY FEET.

I ask that all people on this forum to pray with me and ask all those suffering as I to put an end to these demons and to expel them once and for all from our lives. Whatever your cross or affliction, rebuke the evil one in Jesus’ name and do not fall for his lies. HOLD STEADFAST TO THE LOVE OF CHRIST EVEN IN THE FACE OF PERSECUTION.

The evil one is using my child to intimidate me and cause me such grief that I want to retaliate in hate and violence and flee from my family. NO MORE! I will submit to my LORD and HE will protect me and give me strength and wisdom. FLEE from me evil one in the name of Jesus. You have no more power here!

With all due respect, should this be in the prayer intentions forum? 🙂

Consider the experience of St. Paul:

Although if I should wish to boast, I would not be foolish, for I would be telling the truth. But I refrain, so that no one may think more of me than what he sees in me or hears from me because of the abundance of the revelations. Therefore, that I might not become too elated, thorn in the flesh was given to me, an angel of Satan, to beat me, to keep me from being too elated. Three times I begged the Lord about this, that it might leave me, but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” I will rather boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell with me. Therefore, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and constraints, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Cor. 12:6-10

A spiritual danger for parents is to become conceited when our children succeed, whether their success is academic, social, athletic, or spiritual. Another is for us to take it as a personal affront when we and our children do not immediately negotiate a new level of their maturation with complete ease.

Sometimes, I think it is in the economy of grace that it is within the typical seasons of our growth when we, as the child, find our relationships with those in authority over us strained. This is usually because both the one who owes obedience and the one who bears the duty of authority do not appreciate how an incomplete phase of maturation will pose difficulties for them and a need for both of them to accommodate the new person God is bringing out in the child. We can go through an easy phase and take it for granted that we are strong and competent, when in fact we have been granted a respite from the heavy lifting in the work we each have to do in order to become saints. By economy of grace, I mean this: Both student and teacher advance in learning at the same time, because of the same trial. The advance of one is sometimes even enhanced by the need to accommodate the weakness of the other.

That little aside may have nothing to do with you, excepting this: When there is strife between you and your child, do not blame a demon. Do not imagine you can attract a demon on one hand and yet claim authority over them on another. It does not work like that. Demons, like other vermin, are attracted by bad hygiene, by crumbs of opportunity such as when the seeds of resentment and the fat roots of self-reference are left out for them to get at, the scraps that can go bad when they fall from a person being sculpted from child into adult. Demons are repelled by praise and thanksgiving, by humility, by the habit of responding to trial with supplication and trust, and by the habits of the other virtues, which make the “scraps” into nourishing compost. Remember that the virtue of humility has the idea of “earthiness” as its root–the Latin *humilis *low, lowly) from humus (ground). It is not the fear of our poor “powers” from which demons shrink. Rather, it is their fear of the power of grace that repels them. In other words, we repel demons by re-subordinating ourselves to grace, and doing so without waiting for someone else to do it first.

The red bolded part is a bit concerning. I’m serious. Should a moderator try to connect with this person on a one-to-one level?

The secret of spiritual warfare lies in FEARING
God more than the devil. That will take the wind
right out of his sails! note in Luke 10:18ff Jesus
told his disciples(the 72 He sent out) “I give you
authority…” then He gives them this warning:
“Do not rejoice that the demons submit to you,
rather rejoice that YOUR NAMES ARE WRIT-
TEN in Heaven!” In other words but FEAR GOD
who decides that you are His child or not!!!
When we look at this verse that way, we see
that they demons KNOW that the game is up
when we wisely bow before God WHO IS
OMNIPOTENT. See James 2:19

May St. Michael the Arch-Angel join you in your battle against the evil one and his minions. God is on your side. No demon can resist His awesome power. Be faithful and resolute. God Bless you. :signofcross:

With all due respect, does it offend you? I could of placed it there but I am reaching out to others with children such as mine. I wonder how many out there who have children with invisible disabilities struggle as I do?

Have you ever seen what I have seen, then how can you say that you are concerned? And what for? Please tell me why a moderator should speak to me. Have I broken some rule or something?

That was what I was trying to do, by responding with supplication and trust. That is why in the heat of the confrontation with my child, I chose to write this prayer. Later, I was able to calm down and even pray for her and find compassion. She is suffering and I cannot help her except to take her abuse and turn it into something good. She loves me but she hates me something fierce. When that hate gets a hold of her it brings out the worst in me and I have to find every ounce of strength not to retaliate or get embroiled in her outbursts.

Thank you for reminding me that it is through God’s grace that these demons are expelled and the only way I can achieve this is by humbling myself to God and not feeling the fire of indignation that poisons my thoughts. I just need to know how to balance it out because I do not want to be used as a doormat.

I am so sorry that you are going through this. Yes, I am happy to pray for you!

Clearly, something is bothering you. If it is demons bothering you then your prayer can be powerful, but truly powerful when you are** in a state of grace**.

I heard an exorcist being interviewed on EWTN a while ago, it was on Johnette Behnkovics show “Women of Grace.” He said that ONE good confession was worth more than 100 exorcisms! I was blown away, the power of confession is real. Demons flee!

Please keep praying, however I want to urge you to go to confession. Please seek the freedom from these demons that Jesus Christ is longing to give you, there is peace waiting for you! I am only gently encouraging you as you indicated on your other thread that you don’t always go to Mass, perhaps you have been away from Mass for a while? Whatever the reason Jesus wants you back and so do we!
I went on a retreat many years ago in a monastery where the sisters took a vow of silence. We were at adoration most of the time, then mass, and I did confession. All this to free my home from some (negative, evil, whatever you want to call it) energy. Was I not in a state of grace? I did confession as well. I prayed and prayed. My child wasn’t better, she got worse and worse. Until one year, when it was insupportable, I did nothing but pray. I could not eat or sleep. All I could do was pray. She eventually got better, but it was hell. I don’t blame her. No one on this forum knows what happened and I don’t want to elaborate. Something has a hold on her as it did me. I struggle with it from time to time but my greatest defense is prayer and supplication. My family doesn’t attend church much because DH doesn’t go due to work. My children will not go unless their father tells them. I have no authority. Nor do I wish to drag them there unless they are willing. They are not little children anymore.

I am grateful for you Monicad. May God bless you. I will go to confession and mass more often.

Peace of the Lord be with you,

Thank you for those who posted helpful words to console me and teach me. Please excuse me if this thread was more appropriate for the prayer intentions forum.

Thank you to WT1, 808CATHOLIC, GLam8833, IRISHMOM2.

GLam8833 you mentioned James 2:19. Here it is for those who don’t remember.

19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.

When I wrote my prayer this morning, it was to repel the demon of fear and doubt. It grips me when I am confronted with this situation. Yes they are demons. You may call them negative emotions that is fine by me, but it is all the same. I found strength in knowing that the demons fear God because Jesus was victorious on the cross and has given us salvation. By placing my trust in Jesus’ divine power, I felt his grace and presence. I did not retaliate in hate. I was compassionate and I remained quiet in contemplative prayer. This then calmed my child. However, I could see that she is plagued by something. There is unrest in her soul. I actually convinced her many months ago to confess and she omitted a certain grave sin. I told her not to be afraid. In the end she wasn’t able to do it. I let her be and pray that she comes on her own accord. I put my faith in Christ to help my family and deliver us from evil. Amen.

I remember having one of my kids tell me that they hated me, and I calmly said that I’d told their grandmother that once, too. You could have knocked them over with a feather. “YOU said THAT to GRANDMA?!?”

Demonic influence, while it is possible, is the diagnosis of exclusion. I don’t think it horrible to “demonize” an emotion in the same way as people “anthropomorphize” a dog or a cat, provided you exercise some measure of caution.

First off, if your child is really intimidating you with physical violence, it is a mistake to attribute this entirely to some outside entity. It is possible for your own child to be a danger to you in his or her own right, on the natural plane, and doing an amateur exorcism in the face of that could put you and the child in real danger. A dog is going to act like a dog, not a furry person. Someone with mental incapacity will act like someone with mental incapacity, someone with poor self-control is going to act like someone with poor self-control, and an addict is going to act like an addict. Those three things are distinct from each other and also distinct from demonic possession. You will go just as wrong treating a child with an addiction as if they were possessed as if you were to make the opposite mistake.

More commonly, however, many of us go through life and handle our new independence about as competently as someone handling a machine gun without any prior instruction. We think we’re powerful because we have this powerful weapon, then we pull the trigger! The thing is spraying bullets everywhere! We can’t control it! We’ve caused destruction we never meant when we started to pull the trigger, and our pride and sense of competence is very wounded. We need a lot of compassion and help to pick up the damage in the knowledge that we are not the first and won’t be the last to make this kind of foolish mistake. When the olive branch is extended, we need it to protect our wounded dignity a bit. We need to know that we’re still considered the stuff that an adult could be made of.

Do you know whether you are dealing with a normal round of “what happened to my wonderful child” or some serious theft of souls like addiction? If you are dealing with addiction, GET HELP IN NAVIGATING THIS. It is very hard, even with that help, but you do not want to make all the mistakes that had to be made in order to gain the wisdom that others can share with you. If you are dealing with a wonderful child who is suddenly acting like someone was not there to learn manners at your house, I’d suggest confiding in some friends whose children are older. Most of us, or at least one per family, goes through some form of that, at least for awhile.

Yes, pray, pray, and pray. You are definitely describing a situation that requires the power of grace. That’s entirely the right impulse. Do not, however, start to believe that “real faith” in prayer and grace prevents you from seeking wise counsel from someone the background to help you. If you’re not sure which group you are in, find a discrete professional to ask about it: your child’s pediatrician, your pastor, a family therapist, or someone like that. Don’t go it alone; Our Lord sent them out two-by-two for a reason.

Overall, I’d say your initial instinct is right–seek to *respond *in grace rather than *reacting *as you are being tempted to do. Meditate on the Temptation of Christ. The devil suggested courses of actions based on lies and on sowing doubt: “If you are the Son of God…” and “…all this will be yours, *if *you worship me…” and so on. Yes, pray, and yes, do penance. Do not, however, presume that problems with a spiritual dimension are problems that can only have purely spiritual solutions. Instead, look for the elements of a solution that fit the entire situation.

Peace of Christ be with you all,

EasterJoy, thank you so much for your wisdom and the time you took to answer both of my threads. It is true, that this is to a great extent, a “phase”. The reason I feel that there is demonic activity is because I can sense something truly amiss. It is a force that makes my stomach churn. I am sorry if I wrote my words in a way that made people think that I believe that my daughter is possessed. No, she is not but I believe that it influences people to do the wrong thing. I know that she is suffering and like me she covers it well. I should be more understanding and listen more carefully to her complaints. At first it sounded like an overindulged child but her fears are real and her complaints are an attempt to tell me what is wrong with me.

All this time, I thought I was doing the right thing. Now, I know that it is in forbearance and forgiveness that I will find peace; such as the manner in which Christ acted towards sinners. He gently chided them and asked them not to sin anymore. I have to focus on my love for my child and not my disappointments or hate. Yes, I admit it, I can hate. That is what is wrong. This is where the negative forces come into play. I realized that when I am angry or indignant, my daughter’s reaction becomes more aggressive.

"Demonic influence, while it is possible, is the diagnosis of exclusion. I don’t think it horrible to “demonize” an emotion in the same way as people “anthropomorphize” a dog or a cat, provided you exercise some measure of caution"

I once was told that all that is negative is from the evil one. Somehow, that stuck. I have to be careful but I swear if you felt what I felt, I couldn’t help but feeling like it was an attack meant to hurt us both. There are flaws in human nature and I should realize that her disabilities may influence her character. I just pray that she will overcome them and not just live with it.

"If you are dealing with a wonderful child who is suddenly acting like someone was not there to learn manners at your house, I’d suggest confiding in some friends whose children are older. Most of us, or at least one per family, goes through some form of that, at least for awhile."

I felt very early on that there was something about this child that needed extra attention but I didn’t know what she had until she was 15 years old. Her ADHD, anxiety and rage came to the surface around 14. She was in rebellion mode, made the wrong friends etc. She has changed much since, thank you Jesus. It helped her to have family, friends, social worker, and a change of school. I will try to convince her to go to counselling with me. I am half the problem. She wants a relationship with me, but to tell you the truth, I am afraid and even turned off. She reminds me of two people who hurt me the most. I love her but I tend to keep to myself. She doesn’t like that. I need help to love her and trust her.

I am tired now, because I haven’t been sleeping well. I wish that I could speak to you but this is all I can write right now. I will use your example in my other thread to speak to her. Thank you and God bless.

Curious… just recently, I’ve seen a similar story, but written from the other point of view - that of the child, where the over-religious parent couldn’t connect and ended up creating what was perceived as an abusive environment (never violent, just “psychologically charged”). The child in this story ended up leaving home, going to his grandmother’s hoping to never again speak with his father.
Not the ideal ending, huh? 😦

I suggest you equip yourself with tons of patience and approach your child with a white flag.
Differences in perspectives are practically a given between parents and teens - there will always be a generational gap and the “elders” will always think that something is wrong with the youngsters… here’s a quote from antiquity:
“Times are bad. Children no longer obey their parents, and everyone is writing a book.”
— Marcus Tullius Cicero, statesman, orator, and writer (106-43 B.C.)

I haven’t seen what it is that you two are arguing over, so it’s not easy to provide an advice, but whatever it is, it can be resolved in peace.
Or maybe it should just be left alone and let life go on… in a “live and let live” kind of fashion.

Mother and child should be best friends for life. Go be friends! 👍

Christ is the ultimate “doormat”. Consider how He sacrifice His all for our sins. How much mud and filth do we pile onto Him because we continue to sin even after His sacrifice??? Be honored to be counted with Him. Join your suffering for your daughter to His suffering on the cross. God Bless you. :gopray:

God bless you too. I think what I am really asking is where to draw the line between accepting other’s abusive behavior and just their flawed human nature?

Hi and thank you for your post. We are mostly arguing about school and her future plans. She doesn’t work, at least she handing out resumes, and she doesn’t go to school. She does plan to apply to another college next fall. The thing is what does she do in the meantime.
