Steve Andersen:
Would you say that a pro-life Democrat like Casey isn’t called a moderate?
No, I wouldn’t. Casey is state treasurer. He’s not a legislator. He’s a nobody in politics and everything good to be said about him comes by way of his father. I really can’t say he’s pro-life. There are no promises from him and if he made any, his colleagues wouldn’t let him keep them.

Santorum has a long-standing record of being pro-life. He has a long standing record of being a good senator.
Phillip P:
And as far as “moderate” being code for pro-choice, that’s complete and utter bunk. That’s the problem with single-issue voting, perspective gets so narrow it begins to distort even commonly understood words
What’s bunk is the people who are “personally pro-life” but publicly opposed. What’s bunk is the democrats putting a “pro-life” candidate up against dare I say, one of the most virulently pro-life senators around. And might I ask if Bob Casey Jr. voted for Spector or Hoffel last election? Or which way he would vote Santorum vs Hoffel? Or which way he would vote Toomey vs Hoffel? Pffft

What’s really bunk is someone thinking there can’t be a single-issue stake when abortion is the key word of concern. Is that really Catholic? I hope not.

God Bless!

How naive. But I could cut you some slack here. Maybe since you’re a Democrat (and probably totally brainwashed by the NY Times)
As opposed to the right-wing Republicans who have been brainwashed by Fox News and the New York Post.

LOL!!! Fox News has liberals, Democrats and even anarchists on to voice the perspective from the left. Yet this is ignored and the cry of Howie Dean remains, “Fox News is the mouthpiece of the Republican Party.”

These comments are more evidence, IMO, why the liberals and leftists have been voted out of office in ever increasing numbers in the last 3 election cycles: they have zero respect for reality.

They hide them well, don’t they?

Sure, and there was a political drought when the Republicans couldn’t even get arrested. But, what goes around, comes around, and the Rightists will be on the outs in their turn - the sooner the better for me, but I may have to wait a longer.

LOL!!! Yeah, they hide them right out in the open, on camera, with microphones and equal speaking time. They hide them like the moon is made of gold.

I think you’re going to have to wait a long long time. The Democrats held the House for 40 years. At the rate the left is self-destructing, coupled with the internet and the end of the stranglehold on information it could be 5 generations before the Democrats are back in power in any measurable fashion.

I’d hope by '10 at the latest, but time will tell. I don’t doubt that the Republicans may win again in '08, but it won’t be with a right-winger. Even I can take a moderate Republican - well, almost.

I have no problem admitting that conservative commentators have a voice on Fox News. Liberals always bring up Fox News as if conservatives should be ashamed of conservative bias. Sorry, I’m not ashamed of conservative bias. And I don’t try to pretend it doesn’t exist. (I may roll my eyes occasionally, too, when it goes over the top.) Before Fox News came along though, conservatives had a very limited voice on all the other networks. And that is still the case. At most, in panel discussions, they would have a token conservative (e.g., George Will), surrounded by a bunch of liberals. And us conservatives would have to suffer through all this liberal bias. At least now there is more balance (with talk radio and the internet). But I still think liberals have the upper hand on all the other networks and most major news outlets (editorial pages particularly). And the thing that bugs me is liberals refuse to admit it. They think only conservatives are biased. Give me a break.

And even dominate that station. That’s fine with me. You’re honest. Stickman, on the other hand, seemed to think that just because Fox had a few token liberals, it was unbiased.

No shame in openly liberal media sources and in openly conservative media sources. My local paper, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, is a very good paper, and it’s very conservative. I’d hate to think that I’d get all my news and opinion only from liberal sources. And, I’d think it terrible if a conservative never read any liberal papers.

Fine…like liberals dominate all the other networks?

Not in my view…although I don’t think the pro-choice position is anything to be proud of.

Does the LA Times sports page count?

They do, but conservative media moguls could start other networks to have more conservative outlets.

I prefer to have both sides available to the reading public.

I think this is what talk radio is all about. Although I don’t necessarily agree (or know) that all the conservative radio is due to “conservative media moguls.” I think it boils down to what sells.

You misunderstood me. I was agreeing with you that there is no shame in openly liberal (with one small caveat) and openly conservative media sources. Nothing wrong with a little honest competition.

Philip P:
Of course, there is another interpretation…that both the ultra right and ultra left are raving, frothing lunatics whose holy outrage threatens to destroy us all.

Both parties are significantly farther to the respective left and right than the majority of the country. Election reform, anyone? We could start with competitive congressional districts that make it easier for moderates to win and harder for hard-liners.
How was the words of Rove an example of some “frothing lunatic whose holy outrage threatens to destroy us all”?

miguel:
I think this is what talk radio is all about.
NPR is liberal, but it is news and opinion. Conservative “talk radio” is all opinion. They ought to have a conservative news outlet comparable to NPR (which I listen to mornings and after work).

Philip P:
BTW, as long as people are going to keep on bringing up Durbin, why not actually give entire quotes? Everyone keeps talking about the air conditioning, but conveniently ignores the chaining of detainees “hand and foot in a fetal position to the floor, with no chair, food or water.” and “left there for 18-24 hours or more.” Comes right before the air conditioner comments, but not quite as much fun to ridicule, huh?
I’ve worked while not eating for 24 hours.

I’ve worked outdoors in temperatures over 100 degrees (heat index), when I was young.

While waiting for the school bus, back in the day, I waited for 15-20 minutes in wind chills of -20 degrees. Many winter days were with wind chills around zero.

Am I a victim of torture?

And is not providing a person a chair torture?

BTW, the fetal position is a comfortable position, it is much better than forcing a person to stand for hours, like most workplaces do. I guess most workplaces are places of torture. I am not buying any of Durbin’s statements. Especially when he tries to compare this to the actions of Nazis, etc.

NOW and liberal organizations are always calling for Republicans to nominate moderate justices. Moderate is code word for libs as pro-choice because their desired “moderate” is someone like pro-choice Sandra Day O’Connor. Once you are pro-life you can never be considered a moderate. A pro-war, pro-business, pro-poor, pro-choice person is a “moderate”. An anti-war, anti-business, pro-poor, pro-life person will always be a person out of the mainstream and never be moderate to the MSM.

Name a solidly 100% pro-life person or a “pro-life” person (with the usual exceptions) who is a moderate?

I listen to NPR on the way to work and after. Almost everyone I work with is a liberal and all whom I talk to vehemently disagree with me that it’s liberal. I don’t listen to conservative news. I’m just immune to liberal media as I am immune to liberal pressure at work. Sometimes, it’s just amusing.

LOL!!! I’m sure the dozens of liberals regularly appearing on Fox News would concur they are tokens. I’m still trying to figure out how when there’s an equal number of liberals and conservative in a dicussion on any poltical issue and they both get equal time to speak this means Fox News is biased.

Maybe it has to do with the moon being made of cheese instead of gold:)

NPR is very good radio. I find no bias in the news reporting, and they cover a lot of things in depth.

Okay, you may consider yourself the Lone Ranger for being the only one who doesn’t think Fox News is a conservative news outlet. Even conservatives accept that. But, to paraphrase the lady seeing her son in a parade, “Everyone’s out of step except our Stickman!”

P.S. The fact that it’s owned by Murdoch should have given you a clue.

Of course this is probably asking too much. But it would be nice if news didn’t have a slant. Don’t try to protect your favorite politicians or hype embarassing details about the other guys. Just tell us the truth. Then our favorite commentators can tell us how to run with it. News has gotten so slanted that we really don’t know what to believe anymore.
