I don’t believe in the Mother of Jesus? What? That’s news to me.

RA
Do you believe in her Perpetual Virginity?

Do you believe Mary is the Mother of God?

Do you believe she assumed into heaven both body and soul?

Do you believe Mary is the Immaculate conception? (this does not imply her sons birth)

If you do then you follow the first reformers and believe as a Catholic.

Next time take it easy on the wording disbelief of our dear blessed Mother, your choice of words are offensive, thanks and peace be with you.

and about him throwing… stuff at the devil.

You know… I’ve never heard of a saint doing such a thing. Most Christians just don’t … touch such things. I don’t know. How can you follow, religiously, someone like that? I mean… it just seems so downright bizarre.
Well, it was at the devil. Apparently, as the romanticized story goes, the devil was trying to pursue him to come back to Rome and he through his poo at him (actually, in the cleaned romanticized story, it was an ink pot that was thrown). I suppose if the devil is around, you throw whatever is around…but, that begs the question, did he have poo lying around (perhaps a chamber pot?) or did he will himself to poo at that instance?

Either way, no sane rational man does this. Yes, the devil has appeared to some saints before, but, as far as I know, they all called on God (though, they probably could have poo’d a brick at first). The point being, is, WITH this knowledge and what we now know of medicine and science, I think this is part of the reason some think that Luther was Bi-Polar.
A side note, the blessed Virgin Mary brought Jesus to the Eastern world in the first century, and she brings Jesus to the Western world. What a Mother!
Were you trying to sound like Yakov Schmirnov when you said this? You pretty much nailed it!
Wait a minute the REFORMERS BELIEVED IN THE BLESSED MOTHER as Catholics do today, yet you are celebrating them, and yet deny one of their fundamental Catholic belief’s in the Mother of Jesus?

Again I rest my case, oh happy freedom day for man’s freedom to pick, choose, change christian belief’s at the whym of every wind of doctrine. Happy freedom day RC
Indeed the Reformers did! I think the anti-Mary stuff came around in the 1800s, when women also started to find new religions. …Paging Doctor Freud…

Hey! Speaking of Mary the Mother of God, did you know that “Guadalupe,” is a translation of or sound like the words for, “She who crushes the serpent”? Just to further bring to fruition Genesis 3:15…

What? Following man’s teachings and not God’s Traditions? That sounds like being a slave to sin.

Gabriel;
Who is Yakov Schmirnov??

Gabriel;
We also have her doctrine defended from the Council of Nicea, when the divinity of Jesus was under attack. Proving belief in Mary from way before 300 a.d. True as you say, Freedom by the reformers to change doctrine eventually lost the belief in Mary handed down through out the ages, and eventually became anti-Mary and attached her to some man made idea of idolatry, unbelievable?, but you can still here this today.

Gabriel;
Amen, I did, thanks for pointing that out, their are many religious and symbolic aspects of her apparition from her clothing and vision that does not talked about much. Including that scientist still cannot explain away the apparition on the tillma.

What? Following man’s teachings and not God’s Traditions? That sounds like being a slave to sin.
Gabriel;
Never thought of it that way? You are blessed with keen insight on matters, God has blessed me with Keeping it simple stupid.

Peace

Gabriel: Next time take it easy on the wording disbelief of our dear blessed Mother, your choice of words are offensive, thanks and peace be with you.

RA: First, I do NOT mean to insult Mary in any way. I view her with the respect, admiration, and devotion that I find appropriate per her role as the *theotokos *-- God-bearer. But no more.

Second, you must remember I am NOT RC. I am an evangelical who sees her as blessed above all women, as scripture says. But I also accept what she herself stated in her beautiful magnificant – i.e., that she, like all of us was in need of a SAVIOR: “My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour” (Luke 1:46-47).

You need a savior when you are a sinner. And Mary, was a sinner, like all of us. That is my view from scripture. And I say this as an ex-Catholic, so i know the difference.

Mary was *never *given a special place of honor in scripture, even by Jesus. And the Bible makes it fairly clear that Jesus had half-brothers and sisters (and for the record, there is NOTHING ultra-uber-special-holy about not having sex). Moreover, obviously, there is not even a HINT of Mary’s bodily assumption.

What does the Reformation mean to me? To quote a brilliant sketch from Monty Python:

“When Martin Luther nailed his protest up to the church door in fifteen-seventeen, he may not have realized the full significance of what he was doing, but four hundred years later, thanks to him, my dear, I can wear whatever I want on my John Thomas. I can go down the road any time I want and walk into Harry’s (pharmacy) and hold my head up high and say in a loud, steady voice, ‘Harry, I want you to sell me a condom. In fact, today, I think I’ll have a French Tickler, for I am a Protestant.’”😃
Luther gave permission to disobey even himself. It obviously worked. Non-contracepting Muslims have possession of England now. Impressive.

What new perversion is it to celebrate the day that thousands left the one true Church? Eugh. To glorify in the day that men splintered from the Church? Even if you don’t believe The Catholic Church is His one Church, to revel in the fact that the church is, from that point of view, broken and not doctrinally unified but cracked into hundreds of pieces left to bicker and argue amongst themselves is truly…odd.

I’m glad I never did this as a protestant. One less sin for that first general confession.

Catholics, we should pray that the protestants will come to the feast and stop nibbling what they have left after these great ‘reformers’ stripped away most of the meat. Pray for the reunification of Christianity! :crossrc: :byzsoc: Before we post, let us all pray three Hail Mary’s that the Mother of the Church will interceed for us, and bring the church together again.

Yeah, the more Protestants use birth control, the less there’ll be of them!😃

Cheers!
Actually Catholics aren’t doing too bad of a job of using them either. I’m Catholic. If both Protestant and Catholics keep using
them at this rate, we’re going to be gone or at least a small minority quicker than we think. Europe already is getting there. I saw on 60 minutes once that a small town in Italy that is over 1,000 years old is dying because no one is having any kids anymore. Very sad.

RA: Obviously, that’s not how I view it. If I did, then I wouldn’t be celebrating it, but I;d still be in the RCC. I think what’s important is to not transfer what your believes on to me, which in turn taints my call to celebrate. TY. 🙂

RAWB:** Pray for the reunification of Christianity!

RA: I do. Hopefully, someday soon, the RCC will begin agreeing with more of the Bible, and so bring us both closer. 👍

**Marco: **Aren’t you the author of The Truth Behind the Da Vinci Code? I really enjoyed that book!

RA: Yes. Even though I am an evangelical, that was a really unfair and inaccurate hit-piece (by Dan Brown) on the RCC and all of Christianity in general. I’m glad my book was helpful.

RA
It was FICTION.

I’m sorry, and what part of the Bible does the Catholic Church not agree with?

AG: It was FICTION.

****RA: ****Yeah, I know that. YOU know that. But a whole lot of other people didn’t know that – including Dan Brown, who stated, along with his PR people and publisher, that only the main story was fiction, but that the story was actually set against the backdrop of TRUE history – Beeeep! Wrong.

Hey, I was defending the RCC in that book of mine. Take what you can. 😃

So, you want 1.1 billion people to all change their theology to agree with your private and recent interpretation of scripture? You have just made yourself pope of your own church.

It was a little less then 500 yrs ago that the reformation started.
How can you be so sure it was God’s will for there to be a separation from the Catholic church?
It seems to me that there should be only one church. A christian church. Yet there are so many denominations and they all call themselves “Christian”, Followers of Christ.
So many ways to interpret the bible. About as many as there are people with a brain and enough intelligence to read the bible and decide what the words mean.
I have been protestant all my life. And only because I was raised to believe that “it” was better then the catholic church.
But now I wonder why there are so many branches of even the one denomination which I’m a member. How can we believe we’re on the right road when we travel alone.
According to the bible there is only one way.
Yet we have thousands of leaders guiding “Christians” down their own path. I see trails of Christians like ants walking along different paths. Only one of those trails is leading to God.
I don’t even know if I’m following the right leader.
I know I should be following Jesus. How can I go wrong if I trust in Jesus to guide my way.
We’re encouraged to attend church,“not neglecting the gathering of ourselves with fellow believers”.
The only problem is finding the right gathering of believers.
And if we should dream of the day all religions will agree. When all religions follow the one leader. Guess who that’s going to be?
Yep, the anti-Christ.
I’d say we’re in a real pickle!

RA: IGood comments:
  1. Numbers do not matter when it comes to truth, right?
  2. Not all Catholics believe the same thing. Ask 100 catholics various questions and you’re not going to get 100 exact same answers – i.e., not all RCs are truly RCs, especially in areas where Catholicism has been merged with local folk magick, occultism, and witchcraft.
  3. My interpretations are hardly private.
  4. My interpretations are hardly recent.
  5. All of your interpretations and RC beliefs do not, contrary to what you might think, go back to the first century.
  6. I am no one’s pope. There’s only one of those at a time – and that is plenty. 😉

Not only odd, but a sin against Christ’s wish that we be unified. As a Lutheran I have come to the belief that Reformation Day should be a commemoration, not a celebration. It should be a reminder of how sinful men, on both sides, failed then and for almost 500 years since to maintain the unity you so clearly stated.
Catholics, we should pray that the protestants will come to the feast and stop nibbling what they have left after these great ‘reformers’ stripped away most of the meat. Catholics and Protestants should pray together that the Holy Spirit will guide our words and intentions, blind our eyes to our pride, and open our eyes to His commands.

The happiest Reformation Day for me will be the one where we can, again, share the Sacrament of the Altar together.

The IC teaching does not deny the fact that Mary calls God her savior (although it may, in practice, obscure it). We believe that God saved Mary from sin – including Original Sin – and enabled her to avoid sin her entire life.

**Peter: **We believe that God saved Mary from sin – including Original Sin – and enabled her to avoid sin her entire life.

**RA: **Well, God is the “Savior” of all kinds of people in the Bible. And there’s just as much evidence in the Bible to suggest that he “saved” all of them the same way he allegedly “saved” Mary – i.e., zero evidence.

I don’t think it’s at all appropriate, honest to the texts, or reasonable to say, *“Well, ‘Savior’ here means this thing, but it means such a thing nowhere else – and that’s because we say so. We think because Mary gave birth to Jesus, that’s good enough reason to change the word to mean this thing here, when it means no such thing anywhere else.” *

One cannot just make stuff up like that. The same goes for the assumption of Mary – NOTHING in the Bible like that. You might as well say Joseph walked on water like Jesus. Or Peter flew in the air. It’s the same thing. It’s not in the Bible.

Sorry, Mary died just like everyone else. But praise God, she was “saved” and was blessed among women. What an honorable and glorious testimony she was to all women who yield themselves wholly to God.

So in both cases you say that there is absolutely NO evidence in the Bible? Don’t you think you might be exaggerating a little?

What about when Mary is called “full of grace”?

What about the Book of Revelation portraying Mary in Heaven?

Can those really be called ZERO evidence for the 2 respective dogmas?
Sorry, Mary died just like everyone else.
The RCC doesn’t claim that Mary didn’t die.

P.S. No need to be sorry. I realize that you love and honor Mary, and you’re just share the truth with us heretics. 😉
