Please be aware that there is a difference in the Catholic Church beteween Doctrines and practices.

Doctrines are unchangeable and infallible.

Practices can be changed. For example, the Eastern Orthodox Church which is still in communion with Rome does allow their priests to marry. The Western (Latin) practice is for their priests to remain celebate. This however is not a matter of faith, but of practice…

Are priests allowed to take wives? No, not if they’re in the Latin Rite. But, if they’re in any of the other 20 rites of the Catholic Church, they may. It’s their choice to be ordained and take a vow of celibacy. The Church forces no one to become a priest. Are saints not allowed to have wives? #1 - Saints are declaraed as such after they die so I don’t think any of them plan on getting married since they’re dead. :rolleyes: #2 - I think you answered your own question considering that SAINT Peter was married.

I’m Catholic because of my fidelity and trust in Jesus Christ. I trust that He did not abandon His Church for 1200 years (between Constantine and the Protestant Revolt), but that He kept His promise to be with His Church for all eternity. I dare not call Him a liar!

You need to learn how to spell. Also, please spare me from all the capital letters. The Catholic Church firmly believes that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh so it doesn’t sound like it’s associated with the antichrist. I totally agree that just mentioning the Holy Name of Jesus is “SOooooooooooo POWERFULL.” In fact, there’s even a devotion to the Holy Name whereby Catholics can gain an indulgence by devoutly and prayerfully saying “Jesus”. 😉

Please remember that at the time this verse was written, there were several heresies in their infancy that were debating the nature of Christ. Was He God, actually, or was He man? Paul was simply stating that if someone didn’t acknowledge the fact that Christ was God in the flesh, then that was of the spirit of the Antichrist. He did not mean that this was the only requirement to be called a Christian. You must look at the complete picture of the New Testament writings and also how these were taught by the earliest doctors of the Church.

You are contradicting yourself. When we listen to the Church, we are obeying Jesus. He said that whoever does not listen to the Church should be considered a heathen.

Hey, no problem and here’s to many more! When I signed on here on December 29th, 2004, I was just curious to find out more about a religion that had been part of my family for a long time (but that I had NEVER been a part of). Now I’m 1.5 months away from the Easter Vigil when I will become a confirmed Catholic! Wow, what a feeling!

Hopefully you’ll be able to teach me along with the many other wonderful folks on this board. It’s an amazing board and you’ll never have trouble getting your questions answered or run out of people asking them!

Yes, it is all about Jesus, and Christ said; “If you love me, you will keep my commandments…” Keeping Christ’s commandments requires us to DO a few things, like, be a part of his church and eat his flesh and drink his blood. Christ wishes us to be one, as the Father and HE are one.

Yes his name is powerful indeed. There is a song I like and we sing it at Mass often. Here is a little line from the song: “Oh Sacred Heart of Jesus, truly present in the Holy Eucharist. I place all my trust in you!”

Thanks Proclaim. Yep, Jesus is God and he founded a visible church on this earth to be our shepard until he comes again in Glory. I have provided a few scriptural passages for you to consider regarding the church of Christ. Do your homework brother…Remember, Christ himself told us it would be a difficult and long journey…Finish the race my brother. 🙂

THE CHURCH
Mt 16:18-19 - upon this rock I will build my Church
Mt 18:17 - if he refuses to listen even to the Church…
Mt 28:18-20 - go baptize and teach all nations
Mk 16:15-16 - go to whole world and proclaim gospel
Lk 10:16 - whoever hears you, hears me; rejects you, rejects me.
Jn 14:16, 26 - Holy Spirit with you always, teach/remind you of everything

The Church is the body of Christ

The Church must be one

Infallible Church

Perpetual Church
