To our brethren,

I’m curious why you’re on these CAF when you have no desire to become Catholic? Not that I’m sounding rude or anything but just curious?🙂

For some, they want to learn more about Catholicism, even if they don’t actually want to convert. This is how I was when I first came here. Others have a bit of a combative streak and come here to challenge the perceived errors of Catholicism. This is a bit of a two way street, as I remember seeing many threads with calls to swarm Protestant boards… 🙂

Make sense.😃

  1. Because I enjoy the dialogue and the occaisional repartee.
  2. Because a handful of posters on this site–about half of them Roman Catholic, the other half a mixed group of Protestants, Mormons, Muslims, Baha’is, and sundry others invariably post something I didn’t know. Father Ambrose, Irish Melkite, Tom Nossor, Contarini, come to mind immediately simply because I’ve interacted with each of them several times. But it would take me hours to review all of the various threads I have browsed through or posted in and identify by name all of the folks who have given me considerable food for thought over the past two years or so. This is, quite simply, an extraordinarily good site for folks with any interest at all in the sorts of subjects it explores.

This is true. I will never become a Catholic. I looked at a number of Evangelical forums but I have to say as far as religious forums go this has to be the most informative and may I add entertaining I have seen. A large number of people here are exceptionally intelligent and gifted writers and I enjoy your well-written posts.

P.S. the thread about the light-bulbs was hysterical. 👍

I like to see how you interact with those outside your faith.

that would be the only reason my siblings would visit here. 😦

btw, where are some of the better known Protestant message board? I would like to visit and spread some of Jesus’ Catholicism…Just don’t post the sites here, use the email and/or message system.

TIA

I dont know if anyone caught on but Alfie was obviously refering to me 😉 JK

I dont know why they do it, but I occasionally visit protestant forums just to brush up on the newest arguments against Catholicism so I can research them and be ready when my soon to be father in law comes after me about them. Maybe some come to see what the “Catholics” are arguing about.

Because we are evil and we want to annoy you. Every obnoxiou Protestant post earns you a week off your stay in Purgatory. Didn’t they tell you that yet?

Actually, if I had no desire to become Catholic, I probably wouldn’t be here. I have no intention to become Catholic at the moment, but it’s an itch I can’t stop scratching. And I thinkthat’s a good thing. Protestantism can’t stand on its own. I’m not sure Catholicism can either, but that’s not for me to say.

Are you kidding. I LOVE protestants. They rock and they are our closest co-religionists. My best friend is a protestant and I love him to death. I don’t find protestants irritating. I find them intriguing and many of them have the most amazing faith in our Divine Lord.

Because knowledge of other religions helps increase knowledge of one’s own.

Obviously you have not tangled with backwoods fundamentalists that I have. They are malicious. Not one ounce of charity. It’s their way or the hi way.

No, I must have missed that meeting. Was that the day they were serving the purple koolaid? Just kidding! 😛

I don’t think protestants are horrible. Hey, I used to be one! My entire family still is.

As far as some protestants being extremely aggressive goes, you’re right. Some come on really strong. But at the bottom of that aggression is a desire to “save” you from something they see as a very real danger. I find myself feeling very sad for them. Prayer is the best way of getting past the ‘barricades’ of fear and aggression.

Someone must have been praying for me to get past my fear of the Catholic Church or I wouldn’t be here today. I would never have come and even looked at this website when I was protestant. My response would have been something to the effect of…‘why would I want to come and read what a lot of Catholics think? what do they know?’ I’d say that anyone who comes here and looks, participates, or searchs is due to grace.

I come because as an Episcopalian and former Catholic, I have very similar theology as the Catholic Church–just no Papal Primacy. So that’s one difference, but it is greatly over-weighed by the commonalities–Real Presence, reverence toward Our Lady, Nicene Creed, belief in Seven Sacraments, fondness for Adoration of the Sacrament, use of the same Scripture (I see no reason to trade in my trusty Jerusalem Bible Catholic edition), virtually identical mass, common saints…

Obviously I have no tendency to argue against the Catholic Church–more often than not I agree with Her.

Pax,
Amy

I tend to agree with Edwin, if there wasn’t a part of me which still wanted to be Catholic I wouldn’t have so many Catholic friends, I wouldn’t watch EWTN so much and listen to it on the radio, I wouldn’t have received ashes in a Catholic church today and I wouldn’t be seriously considering making a good confession and returning totally.

Prayers, please.
