To singles--have you thought of this?

It’s very, very difficult for someone my age (45) to meet a single, eligible Catholic man. In fact, it’s darn near impossible. So I’ve resigned myself to singleness for the rest of my life. That’s not by choice, but is simply facing reality.

But with God, nothing is impossible. If you are meant to be with someone–the right man will be put in your path.

Wow I think that is a great idea except where… I would definitely schedule it at the parish center or in a public location like a park or beach or even a restaurant.
Ditto. I’d move it to somewhere public, even a coffee shop. But other than that, I’d do it.

I am with you - over 40 and single - I think maybe I am not meant to marry. I tried for years and gave up a few years ago.

A question to those who are 35+ and single…do you feel that you are more set in your ways now, and finding a suitable Catholic person to date in a serious way/potentially marrying, is harder because of that? I ask because I think to myself, if I were single now, at 39, would I be less tolerant of things I was tolerant of (and shouldn’t have been) back in my 20’s? Or maybe you just become set in your ways as you age…and you have become too picky? And by picky I mean…not that we all don’t have a right to pick and choose, marriage is a huge thing, and one should discern it with seriousness. But, picky meaning …as you’ve aged, you have become less flexible, and things need to fit perfectly into what you feel the ‘ideal’ spouse is. Trying not to make this sound as bad as it might be looking in writing here!😊 🙂

My sister is now 53, divorced and has been dating…and told me that she thinks she’ll never remarry (well she can’t because she hasn’t had her marriage annuled, but that’s another topic) because she just feels that at the age she is …she just doesn’t have the tolerance for the ‘tales of woe’ of wounded men. lol (her words not mine) I think when you date in your 20’s, you bounce back from rejection, break ups, etc a bit differently than in your late 30’s/early 40’s and onward.

Just thought I’d ask the question.

That’s pretty much where I’m at. Sometimes it’s just better to let go and accept what you have then dwell on what you don’t have. 🤷

If you are looking for a Catholic wife/husband, have you thought of having a singles social within your age group, at your home? I noticed in the Sunday bulletin this past weekend, that a female parishioner was having a singles get together, asking people to bring a covered dish/appetizer, and just ‘hang out.’ I thought that was great–if I were single, that would be something I’d try.

I hate to admit though, in the world we live in, it might be a little scary to invite strangers into one’s home, especially a party given by a woman, as we just don’t know the true intent of some people, but I’d hope that Catholic parishioners would be safe!

Anyways–just curious if you have ever done anything like this, and if not…what do you think? I have seen quite a few threads on here about frustrated Catholic singles looking for ways to meet likeminded single people…and this might be a way?
I know some young adult groups in Wisconsin have game nights and have a smaller than ToT turnout but still have 7-15 people all in a apartment. It is near 50/50 between the genders.

Well sure that is true, but I married young to a person that I shouldn’t have tolerated - and was married for about 3 years. I have a daughter and twin boys from that marriage, and I have an annulment. It doesn’t work to tolerate things you shouldn’t tolerate.

I have only gone on about 3 dates since my annulment over 10 years ago. I just never had time/people who knew me probably didn’t want to marry someone with 3 kids, and the 3 dates I went on didn’t ask me out again, not the other way around.

I had plenty of men/women friends at the time and still do, it’s just not for me, I think. I think God would have brought the right person into my life if I was supposed to meet someone.

It’s a double-edged sword. People can become set in their ways and the pool may be “smaller”, but they also can be more serious and have a better idea of what they want in a spouse, and so they may be more upfront about that and able to recognize that and are less likely to engage in “game-playing”.

Set in my ways…no except I won’t put with gameplaying, lying, irresponsibility and control freaks. Set in my ways as I expect honesty, commitment and direction. 👍

I used to think this way, but then realized that I was not doing anything to help - my circle of friends was not increasing and I was not doing anything to meet new people. I joined a few dating sites and met my fiance’ within a year. I had to go out on dates with about 20 different people and chat online with a whole lot more before I got to him. I learned quickly that no matter what someone puts in their profile, it’s rarely a true reflection of who they are. I initially thought FH would be boring from his profile and the few chats we had but once I met him in person it was a whole different story. You can’t be picky before you meet them, only after. About four of my friends also met their spouses this way.

Well,

I can’t really afford the dating sites - raised 3 kids alone, and now I have to start putting every extra dollar away for retirement. If I ever have enough, I will do that. I am very happy that you met someone, Princess - I hope the two of you every happiness!!! 👍

Yes I’ve done the same thing for years but I’m still single. 🤷 Did the internet too didn’t work. I’m glad that you found sucess. I don’t agree with being more picky afterwords though. The guys I could go out with are all divorced without an annualment but I’ve been on maybe 4 dates so far this year with two different guys neither of which worked out. That seems to be my average so I’ve got about 10 more years I guess to reach the 20 date mark. 😃 Don’t feel too sorry for me though I take myself out and have a good ole time. 👍
