To The Jews: Suppose You Found Out Christ Truly Exists...

You’re right. I sometimes hesitate when responding to Cathdefender’s posts, because they make me feel as if this were the Middle Ages again, when Catholic clerics would try to provoke rabbis into defending their faith, only to be falsely accused of “blasphemy”, and, well, you know what usually came next…
We’ve apologized for past injustices. You won’t be expecting another Spanish Inquisition anytime soon. (Forgive the Monty Python reference, I couldn’t resist…) 😃
I cannot explain Cathdefender’s constant efforts to provoke the few Jews on this forum…I do recall her saying in another thread that her ex-husband was Jewish, so I wonder if it stems from anything to do with that?
It’s best to leave private lives out of this. What’s done is done.

Oh, and regarding Deuteronomy 13, I don’t recall Jesus ever telling his disciples and the Jews of his day to go “follow other gods, whom [they] have not known”…

Because the poster seems to “have it in” for Jews as far as conversion goes.

I know Jesus was not the messiah, so I don’t see how I could answer this question.

Because if Jesus was a divine messiah, then that would mean the God of Israel was a liar (chas ve’sholom) when He said that He has no form or likeness.

And so, they cannot both be right. And since the God of Israel has proven Himself to me, so many times, I know better than to look elsewhere for “truth” when I know I have it right here.

How about we ask a similar question to the Catholics like Cathdefender?

What if you found out that the whole Christian thing was a lie, designed to test Jews (Deut. 13), and somehow, a lot of Gentiles got sucked up into it…Gentiles who did not have the advance warning Jews did in Deut. 13?

How would you feel to find out what you have defended all your Cathdefender life, was a lie?
Your “Jewish persecution” problems are interfering with this thread. I refuse to have you turn this around to your liking Hashem, either answer the question, or don’t post here.

Its not private if it was discussed by the OP in another one of her threads. Private means it was brought to the forum from elsewhere, and was never discussed by the OP on this forum.

As for Deut. 13, well we will just have to agree to disagree on that one.

Why do you conitnue to refer to me as God, by God’s Name?

forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=246258

And why are you not answering my question?

What would YOU do if YOU found out that Jesus was a test for the Jewish people (Deut 13), and that somehow a lot of Gentiles got wind of him, but not the fact that he was just a test designed for Jews.

How would YOU feel to learn you may have wasted your entire life worshipping something that was false?

I have already answered your question, but you refuse to answer mine…

I agree. You could expect a much better answer from one of the official apologists here though; I’m sure they’d be happy to help you out.

Well, truthfully, I would never have even posed the question if Cathdefender had not done so in reverse…because the issue of what Gentiles would think or do if they found out Jesus was a false deity never really concerned me…because I’m not obsessed with that question the way Cathdefender seems obsessed with the question in reverse.

What Gentiles believe really has no bearing or relevancy in Judaism, as long as what they think or believe does not impact us as Jews in any negative way.

I will turn the question upon myself. If somehow, it was all proven wrong, I would look at Judaism, but not be willing to give up ribs. I would start my own faith, make a bunch of money, flee the country if not get arrested for tax evasion, return in glory to right the wrongs, set upa “compound,” and it goes down-hill from there

😃 😃 😃 😃 😉 😛

This is a “what if” question and I’d really like some serious replies from Jews and atheists alike…what if the NT was everything it said it was and Christ does actually exist…what would you do? I mean if you really, sincerely knew he does exist…what would you do?
The truth is, that if Jesus appeared to me in a vision and changed my water into wine, I’d still be Jewish and I’d still reject the idea of him being the Messiah.

People can exist without being of any spiritual or ethical importance - that Jesus of Nazareth is admitted to be a really historical person, does not by itself tell us anything about Him. (Names by themselves are no guide at all as to whether the being named is historical or fictional.)

If the original question was would I believe Jesus existed, sure. If it was would I believe Jesus was God or the Messiah, then I stick with my original post.

Well then Valke, other than sounding arrogant, I am not surprised at this answer. You should be so privileged as to have that dream.
Jesus worked many miracles 2,000 years ago, you didn’t believe then and nothing has changed…

Well, I’m sure many of us will promise not to laugh too hard when the ‘epistle’ of a certain Saul of Tarsus to his publishers is found saying “I’ve had this amazing idea for an epic story about a man-god, it came to me while looking at the remains of an eccentric preacher who got himself crucified. Here’s the synopsis . . . we need to talk about an advance for my travel and research . . . . .”
I’m not sure why, but your bunny icon makes me edgy.

Because you have the correct Jewish understanding of such “visions” and “miracles” (remember that the pagan priests at Pharoah’s court were also able to turn a rod into a snake, to teach us that false religions can also work “miracles”.)

Speaking as a former atheist who met Jesus face to face at the age of ten, I can tell you I’d join the Church - which I did. 🙂

I’m not being arrogant. I am trying to answer your question, which I find a bit arrogant, so I guess we’re even.

There’s no physical miracle that Jesus could do which would cause me to embrace the Catholic or christian theology.
Just as I would not expect you to abaondon your faith if it was learned that the gospels were all written by people who never met Jesus or heard him speak or witnessed any miracles.

But the Gospels are all about Jesus and his miracles and such. If four men wrote the same things with not much of a difference and it’s recorded, it must be true. Although I have had other experiences with other matters about Christ in which I choose not to get into, I will always have faith in Jesus. How could anyone have made up the Gospels? How could any man conjure up a story like that? It must be from God.

All religions have miraculous occurrences, it doesn’t make them the truth.
Judaism teaches that God allowed nonJewish religions to produce such “miracles”, because nonJews are awed by things like that. Jews know to use reason and logic.

Hi Valke2,
Please help me understand your answer ( I am being genuine )

If Jesus somehow proved to you that he is indeed what Christian followers say he is. This would NOT cause you to embrace christianity, and you would not " abandon your current faith ???

God bless,
Carl

And Christians don’t know how to use reason and logic? It were some of the Jews who were awed by the miracles of Christ.

That is why God warned us in the Torah, in Deut. 13 and also in Exodus, to beware of signs and wonders done by BOTH Jews and nonJews…because He knew that even some Jews would fall into idolatry because of things they have seen.

Doesn’t your NT say that even Satan can be transformed into an angel of light? So you see, even the NT gives a warning like that.
