To the women here--have you ever done something drastic w/your hair?

I have relatively long hair, with layers. People like it, but it’s time for a change, I think. I like this look:

Do you think that is too drastic from a long layered look? (long–meaning shoulder length)

My husband will probably chime in when he sees this thread. He LOVES my long hair, but I have had shorter (more chic) looks before, and he has liked them. Something about long hair though, that he really likes on me.

Just would like to hear from some of you, if you have ever gone from long to shorter–and did you regret it?:o
Now that looks cute.

I got a mullet, but it wasn’t intentional.

I took an image to the salon that looked something like http://store.viz.com/images/viz_media/products/hikaru5.jpg

and walked out with a mullet.

It was the only time I ever cried over a cut.

Fair warning: when the stylist says, “Just let me even out the ends,” you know you are in deeeeeeeeeeeeep trouble.

😦 aw that sounds like a bad experience. I have long hair, and I have had my fair share of botch jobs–it’s no fun. That cartoon looks pretty cool.

Here’s my son’s cut:

I really like how this looks on my ds!!

I tried to pretend it was like a 1950s poodle cut, but it was a mullet all right.

After I stopped crying and it grew out, I started cutting my own.

You know something? Not bad. 😛

TOP TEN THINGS YOU DON’T WANT YOUR STYLIST TO SAY:
  1. Just let me even out the ends.
  2. Could you answer the phone? My psycho ex has a restraining order but he keeps calling.
  3. No, really, the cut looks great on you.
  4. Just call me Sweeney Todd!
  5. That style will probably look just fine after you sleep on it some.
  6. Oh, a little peroxide will take those bloodstains right out.
  7. Which one is the scissors? I forget.
  8. You don’t mind if I smoke, right?
  9. Hold my beer while I get that cowlick.
And the Number One Thing You Don’t Want To Hear Your Stylist Say:
  1. Oops.

That’s funny–“oops!” hee hee:D

Also, bet on your haircut not being quite what you expect if your stylist is looking at the stylist next to you–carrying on a heated discussion–WHILE cutting your hair.

:rotfl: No kidding, right?

My hair was waistlength until a few months ago, and I realised I was too obsessed with looking after it so I cut it to shoulder lenght.
I didn’t really try different things in my teens and I’m in the last blast of my twenties now, so I decided to have it dyed for the first time ever, but for some reason my hair did not like the dye and it disintegrated.
I ended up going from waist to buzzcut in two days.
I have had some iffy reactions to it, but looking on the bright side, I don’t have to even think about my hair now until it grows out, and I have actually buzzed it again since I did it the first time. It looks better than I would have thought it would.

I’ve had LONG hair for most of my adult life…
Until just after giving birth to my first son.
My labor was a little, um, traumatic… and it sent my body into Hyperthyroid Shock, which had some pretty bad side-effects! I lost all my pregnancy weight (and another 10 pounds) within 2 weeks of giving birth… then my hair started falling out… and kept falling out… until I had MASSIVE bald spots all over the top of my head. Yeah, not pretty.
I tried for a long time to hide it by getting highlights and attempting some creative “comb-over” looks… but it was hopeless. Eventually, when my hair started growing back (and was about 1 inch long on the bald spots) I cut all my hair the same length… sorta a pixie cut!
It was cute at the time (helped me get through the tragedy of loosing my hair)… but as soon as it grew back I’ve had it long ever since…

So that’s my drastic hair story! 🙂

Oh my gosh–you poor thing! That is such a traumatic story–I’m sorry that happened. I have never heard of hyperthyroid shock…that’s terrible. Well, glad you are ok now–thank you for sharing that story.

Thanks!.. looking back I can smile at the “cute” cut… but at the time it was a little traumatic…
Here’s a pict of my short hair…http://lh3.google.com/halpernfamily/RiUclCg9atI/AAAAAAAABwQ/bGJHCt5-10U/s288/webPB230145.JPG

And now my current length…

I love your short hair! (and your long) But the short hair is so cute! What a beautiful family you have…thanks for sharing. 🙂

Holy Moly! What stunning long hair, w-girl! Did you marry at 14? You do not look a day over 30.
About 5 years ago, at age 45 or so, before the silvers started sneaking in, she was once mistaken for being in her early 20’s! lol For many women, flowing hair is their fountain of youth. At least, that’s what I see, prejudiced though I am. 😃 RACJ

Oh by the way–everyone…STILL HAVE NOT GOTTEN MY HAIR CUT. But, the good news is? I have settled on a hairstyle…it is going to be a little longer than the Katie Holmes hair do in the above pic in this thread. I think that will allow some of my longer layers to appear longer…and might even begin to grow my bangs out a bit…so…I’ll let you all know when it’s officially cut! :o 😃

I haven’t cut mine either - I’m such a wimp. I just want to be able to pull it back in a pony tail or in a head band when I want to, and with bangs that’s just not that easy with how my hair grows.

So for now - it stays the same.
