To the women here--have you ever done something drastic w/your hair?

Last summer, I did notice a lady with a shaved head in a Toronto suburb where my wife’s friends live. She was chatting away with a neighbor in her driveway. I quickly turned my attention to the road and drove on. :rolleyes:

I hope all understand that I’m not advocating that anyone here actually consider that “drastic” look, it’s just about having a little fun. With that, I´ll shut up.:bounce:

My hair was like that when I was younger, and if I have it very short I do have to wash it every day even now. But as I have grown older, my hair has become more dry, and now I can get away with washing it every third day or so. These days it’s actually less work to have it longer rather than shorter! So you never know… 🙂
 
The hairdresser that did my hair for my wedding (this glamorous Rene’ Russo look alike) kept telling my get highlights, before the wedding. I said no, perhaps after the wedding. Finally I agreed. I never had dyed my hair before (except for those drugstore temporary hair dyes that last a month).

Well, the dye takes to my hair more than she expected so I end up with these platinum blond highlights to my naturally chestnut color hair. She keeps telling me, “Ooh, ahh, you look great” as do other clients. In the meantime I think I look somewhat like “Pepe Le Pew”

I had to keep it for a few months, because I was too afraid to chemically do anything else to my hair. People either loved it or would look at me with pity saying. “Oh you dyed your hair?”

Finally, to rid myself of it I got a shorter haircut, The blond had grown out enough to look not too bad on short hair.
 
:o My wife had short hair for a while in the mid-90’s. Try as I might to love it, I just couldn’t fully adjust. All my life my heart has sunk when a woman with fabulous hair did a chop. I can’t help it; I’m a romantic about it. I almost never think that cropped hair looks great on a woman of any age, but esp. those over 40. I’m just lucky that my wife accepted that my love for long hair was not gonna change. I confessed to her that I would never stop dreaming of her with a sensuous river of hair, so for nearly the past decade, I’ve had to pine no longer. (Yes, I help her every day with it.) What a gal! 😃
 
I had my hair trimmed today.
Nothing exciting, just a trim. I was tempted to chop it, but I am too fond of the longness. I am determined to grow it out, regardless of how much I want to chop it.

LOL–aw. My husband too loves long hair.sigh I am not going to chop it. I thought about it, and perhaps hormones were causing me to think a bit on the drastic side. (shocking I know) 😊 So, now that I’m balanced again…haha…I am going to go for a longer version of the Katie Holmes do. 🙂

No kidding, but I worked for a hair salon in college called The Chopping Block…hahaha I always thought that was an awful name for a salon.😛 Happy that you had your hair cut!

Interesting that you posted this thread. 😃 I just recently cut my hair for Locks of Love. I was lazy getting it cut and decided to continue growing it out for them. They should have received the 13" of hair in the mail by now. I really did not like it that long. I felt like I couldn’t do anything with it except put it up in a ponytail.

The cut I got was similar to the one posted by PatienceAndLove, except shorter. My hair just brushes my shoulders now. It’s also a lot waver than the pic. When my mil saw me for the first time after the cut she asked me if I had gotten a perm too. 😃
The one thing I have noticed is this new cut really makes the gray stand out. 😛

I’m like some of the other ladies on this thread. I do not like having to mess with my hair. All I want to do is wash it, brush it, and go. I do not like having to blow dry it or anything else.

I have hair I have to wash everyday, and it is half way down my back too. I used to never blow it dry when I was a stay at home mom, thinking it would take way too long. Now I find that I can get up showered, dressed, hair dried and curled, make up on, kids dressed and fed, homework gathered up, and out the door to drop the kids off for school before I head out to work in just 50 minutes. Turns out blow drying and curling my hair is not nearly as time consuming as I used to think.

Wow you are supermom! Haha! I can get myself ready, showered, blowdried and makeup and dressed in under an hour but if I gotta get my son ready and his bag ready that is another 30 minutes. I am first time mom though so I still haven’t got that organized yet. I’m sure I could be more efficient. My hair is almost to the small of my back and it only takes me 5 minutes to blow dry it but it is just such a hassle and feels so much longer. I’m getting it cut this weekend and will post a pic of before and after! I’m so excited. Not sure what I’m doing yet but I foudn a few pics that I think I like…

Oh these too. I couldn’t see them before I attached them because I put them on my desktop the other day when I was looking. I can’t remember what they are until after I see my post…😃 I only saved the ones I think I can pull off though. My hair is straight and doesn’t hold a curl as I posted earlier on in this thread so I gotta find straight looks…

I’m definitely not that organized. It usually takes me 1.5 hours to get out the door in the morning.

We’ll see. My hair’s at an awkward length right now (for me). I need to decide If I’m going to cut it again or let it grow out. Any longer than a few inches past my shoulders and it starts aging me. I have a small face and fine but densely-growing hair and it pulls itself flat.

My boyfriend likes long hair, as I mentioned before, but his hair is longer than mine, so he doesn’t believe me that it’s so hard to take care of mine! His is coarse and wavy, though, so it tends to look good (in an unkempt kind of way) no matter what he does with it. Mine is really fine and dead-straight, and gets staticky no matter what I do with it. Sigh.🤷

And he phoned me today to tell me that he’s getting it straightened. One of his female friends wants some relationship advice, so he went with her to the salon to discuss it. She offered to pay for whatever he wanted done as a thank-you. Wish someone’d do that for me!

Yeah, when I was in undergrad, I dated a guy with long hair. It was beautiful: so thick and wavy. All he had to do was pull it back in a ponytail and he was done, and he never had the float-away frizzies like the ones that always pop out of my ponytail. NOT fair. :mad:
 
Sounds like I have the same fine but abundant hair as you two, always having to deal with straight lifeless hair. Although, since I have started coloring my hair it suddenly seems to have developed body and even some wave. When I blow it dry it is completely straight, but when I curl it, it holds. If I wash my hair the night before, and then curl it in the morning, I actually almost have big hair now, which is weird.
 
You know, I really don’t want long hair (I don’t count 3 inches past shoulder as long- it seems like a medium length to me). I don’t enjoy taking care of it, am not good at styling it, don’t like the way that it ages my face, and my husband is fine with my hair as long as it’s long enough to run his fingers through it. I also refuse to color my hair again, at least for the next several years. I like my hair color, don’t want to be fussed with having to maintain a dye job, and am only just now finished growing out the damage from my last experience with hair color (too-light highlights followed by a total dye back to my natural color, which faded out before it grew out, leaving me with dry, brittle, two-tone hair).
 
My son got his hair cut today–he has thick hair (but blond) like me, and the stylist did an awesome job. She cut it like Ashton Kutcher’s was in the 70’s show. ha! Looks so cool! My son doesn’t like the limelight on him, so when the ladies at the salon were ooh-inh and ah-ing, he was bright red!:o Aw.

Just sharing…have a great hair day!😛
