While waiting in the waiting room of a doctors office where I took my wife, the View was on. I asked everyone if they really wanted to watch this. No one spoke up. So I asked the receptionist to change the channel, which she did.

I doubt if writing in protest to the TV station or their advertisers will make anyu difference. Bashing and attacking Catholics and The Church seem to be the in thing right now!
While the above is mainly true we should not lose heart and not even try anyway.

Actually, the better thing to do would be to pray with the specific intention of converting people who do watch The View or even pray to prevent others from watching it so they don’t turn more anti-Catholic. An effective method of prayer is praying during the 3pm hour, the Hour of Mercy in which Jesus died. Pray with arms outstretched, for God finds it harder to resist such a position as His Son prayed in while on the Cross.

But always remember to humbly ask God to accept your prayer/sacrifice, do not take it for granted He will automatically fulfill any of your requests. We alone can do nothing.

If I had to choose between poking myself in the eye or watching The View, I’d start poking. :blackeye:

I give up, why does anyone watch this tripe? For the love of heaven, and your sanity, pray the rosary, listen to Dennis Prager, post on CAF, bake some brownies or vacuum the rug—you’ll be so much happier…

While I admit I listen to PBS and Air America from time to time, it is done for purely educational reasons–know thy enemy–I cannot expose myself to the toxic elements that prevail the atmosphere on The View.

Hi, I just felt I should point out that today on the View, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Joy made some pretty offensive comments about the Catholic Church which I feel were way over the line. I was surprised and disappointed in Elisabeth. She talked about being raised Catholic but left after realizing the “hypocrasy” They were discussing confession which is something so sacred and they were talking about how ridiculous it seemed to confess to a priest. They made some really offensive remarks which I feel they need to apologize for. I plan on letting ABC know how I felt about this.
But by the same token, if Joy felt the need to wish she could die after going to confession so that she could go “straight up” there is a definite problem there. I just found that comment extremely sad and I felt really bad for her. There is a problem (most likely with the child’s interpretation) if they have a death wish every time they come out if the confessional. I, for one, will be praying for her.

Elisabeth, eh, her comments were kinda the typical whining.

the View-can’t stand that show-never watch it.

This evangelical Protestant has nothing but respect for the
Roman Catholic Church-From Reading the CCC, C.S. Lewis, Chuck Colson’s the body and Pope John Paull II and Mother Teresa.

I’d like to know why is OK for them to say those things about the Catholic church?

Can you imagine a simular conversation about the hypocrisy of any other religeon on TV?
I wish evangelicals would understand that when someone attacks the Catholic Church-they are attacking all of Christianity.

They just don’t understand it. If they knew why we confess to a priest, they might understand a little better and stop talking against it. There is a scripture in the Bible that talks about confessing your sins to one another as well as God, that it’s a good thing to do.

I agree. It seems that they are attacking all of christianity, but because they use the word “Catholic” a lot of non catholic christians seem to think its ok. that they aren’t attacking “their” religion. If they replaced the word Catholic with christian. then there would be a much louder up roar about that sad show.
B.T.W. Its dissapointing that whoopi is so vile on her attacks on catholics. Im a big fan of 80’s comedies… And i like her movies a lot. I think she has realized that she isn’t funny any more (as in can’t get a movie). and so she as to resort to insulting cheap remarks for a laugh.

About Elizabeth on the View. She thinks she knows everything and really doesn’t. But on the comment made about the Catholic Church being the one true church, I do not agree on that. The Christians (Jesus and his desciples) were the one true church. As long as you believe that Jesus died on the cross for our salvation and ask him to come into your heart, that is the one true religion no matter where you attend church. Jesus said nothing about having to be a Catholic. The Catholic church is not perfect. There would not be all those priests abusing young children and the vatican involved with the mafia if it were.

It’s true, Jesus said nothing about having to be Catholic to have salvation, and our Protestant brothers and sisters in Christ, those who’ve accepted Jesus, are truly saved.

Is it just me or does anyone else notice Whoopi slurring her speech somewhat on the last few shows?

If you can tell me who the advertisers are I will gladly write them a letter. Chances are I don’t buy there products anyway, but I would be happy to tell them why!

We were selected to be part of the Neilson Ratings this year, and I was glad to be able to give my two cents worth, by not listing many TV shows. I had two books that I had to return empty because those two TV’s didn’t get turned on all week except for to play my exercise video’s.

The other TV listed EWTN, Fox News, HGTV, a couple cartoons and Gilligan’s Island on DVD (my kids love that show).

To find out why the Roman Catholic church is the church that the " canonists" went to, you’d need to read books about the first three or four hundred years of Christianity. Protestants don’t like to look at the first fifteen hundred years of Christianity. They just don’t want to be Catholic so they read the bible and early Christian history selectively. They’re blinded by their traditions.
Deciding not to be a Catholic because there are sinners in the Catholic church is illogical. Read the bible and see that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Please provide more information about the Church being involved with the Mafia, and include credible references. Also please include any writings by the Vatican or an approved representative that states that they believe the people in the Catholic Church are perfect. You can e-mail me direct or start another thread because this thread is not really about that topic. If you cannot do the above you are really no different then Elizabeth because you are speaking as though something is fact when you have no way of supporting your theory. Also I would like to point out that it is not only Priests that abuse children there are many Protestant Pastors who abuse children too. The percentages are no higher in the Catholic Church than any other church. The first thing Christian’s need to do is stop bashing other Christians! You may believe that all you have to do is ask Jesus to come into your heart to be saved, but I respectfully disagree. I don’t think any less of you because of that, I just disagree.

I guess that you are probably right about the Vatican and the mafia. Maybe I got that from watching the Godfather, which might or might not be true. But as far as salvation from God, I was right except I forgot to add that you need to ask His forgiveness for all your sins and then ask Christ to take over your life and He will wash your sins away and the Holy Spirit will take over your soul. But in any religion this is true. I am just saying thay the Catholic faith is not the one true religion.

The difference between the religions is where the scripture says that, “Unless you eat My body and drink My blood, you will not enter into the kingdom of heaven”. I believe that is what the poster is referring to, the Real Presence of Christ (His Body) in the Eucharist.

I also believe that Protestants who have accepted Jesus in their heart and do the things you mentioned, will go to heaven. I believe too that it’s important for them to receive communion in their knowledge of it also.

The church is meant to be one visible, unified body just as it was in the beginning.

John 10:16
Eph 4:3-6
Rom 16:17
1 Cor 1:10
Rom 15:5
Phil 2:2
John 17:17-23 * - Christ’s prayer for unity

*I loathe The View. I watched it when it first aired…ugh. I have no idea how that show stays on air…miserable women, complaining for 60 minutes. Bleck.

I always am saddened when The Catholic Church is misrepresented on tv, especially. Typically, people who walk away from the Catholic faith, do so without having a full understanding of what they are walking away from. Meaning, confession is not about confessing to a priest to begin with…the priest is acting in the persona of Christ…hearing our confessions. It is also clearly stated in the Bible, as an act that Christ wanted the Apostles to perform, hearing confessions and they were given the ‘authority’ to forgive sins. I have friends and family who have left the faith, and I often ask them to take a second look…did you really understand the ‘why’s’ of the faith, before walking away. If you leave something without knowing why you are leaving, then how can you leave?

Not just something that is displayed on The View, sadly. *

I couldn’t agree more but we have a lot of work to do in the Catholic church so that the sheep don’t stray from the fullness of Christianity and get tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine.
One thing I’m excited about is all the protestant pastors, theologians and missionaries who are converting. Their books and tapes are so helpful to cradle Catholics like me.
