Too Much Mary? Not Enough Jesus?

Hey guys, I feel like I always ask an obvious question on here, but I’m back with another one.
As Catholics, we’re used to people assuming that we worship Mary and that we give her too much attention. Other people think our focus on Mary distracts us from Christ, whereas we know she is a special way to reach Him. And we also know we can never love Mary more than Jesus did.
My question here is if I’m focusing too much on Mary in my life. I talk with Jesus regularly throughout the day, and He is my primary goal. However, I have a very deep devotion (read: obsession) to Our Lady of Guadalupe. I have her on my special medal I wear every day, my rosary, some of my clothes, etc. In contrast, I don’t have a Jesus medal, or a Jesus rosary, or Jesus on my clothes. Of course, the crucifix is the main part of my rosary and I picked out a very special crucifix for it. I kiss it throughout the day most days.
Again, this is probably a dumb question, but am I focusing too much on OLoG? Should I swap my current medal for a divine mercy one?
 
Whatever strengthens your faith and works to bring you closer to the Lord. It’s different for everyone. I might be the opposite in not giving enough attention to Mary. I have crucifixes and Divine Mercy images but no artifacts of Mary.
 
It’s impossible to get “too much Mary” and “not enough Jesus”.

God (Jesus) MADE Mary a perfect vessel, so He could give Himself to Her. In turn, Her life was entirely given back over to Him. The correct perception is thus “The more Mary you get, the more Jesus you get” because when we focus on Her correctly She points us to Jesus.

Think of what it is like when you walk into a Catholic Church under Her name; one like, for instance, “St Mary of the Angels” or “Our Lady of the Snows”.

What mass do they have? It’s not like they’ll be dancing around a cauldron of fire chanting incantations to some witch. If it is a Catholic Church, then it’ll be a mass dedicated to the worship of Jesus Christ. That is normal for a Catholic Church under Her Patronage.

So you can see the building can be dedicated to Her Patronage and have her name on it; but, even though it is Her House, She shows us Jesus; for He always remains at the center of it.

As somebody who does think it’s possible to honor Mary too much I think you’re fine.

While it is impossible to love her more than Jesus does I do think it is possible to see her, and not Christ, as the end point. Your post does not imply that you are doing that.
 
I read once and sadly I have forgotten who said it, that every prayer we say to Mary, she expresses to God as words of love. So think of it that way, Mary purifies and makes our prayers words of love to God. I am sure that Marys love words sound better than my jumble of messy words.

I forgot who said this, possibly the current or one of the past popes. But it went like this; “A Christian without the Madonna is an orphan!” This is so, so true! Speaking personally, I can’t even begin to imagine where I’d be in my faith if it wasn’t for Our Lord’s Mother! To be sure, this Catholic would be an orphan without her!!! Love that Mom of mine!

I love Our Lady and the Rosary. The more I love and imitate Our Lady, the more I love and get closer to Jesus. I can’t even contemplate my spiritual life without Our Lady in it.

I once read a priest who quoted a demon: “ If people only knew the power of the Rosary! Each Hail Mary is a blow to my head! “

Never fear to love Our Lady too much. That’s the enemy talking.

One could wonder why saint Paul didn’t promote praying to Mary. As 3/4 of the new Testament is his writings. He promoted the Holy spirit.
 
One could also wonder why, when St Paul was persecuting the Church, did not have Mary arrested. She was right there in Jerusalem, within his reach. Bottom line: not everything is recorded in the Bible.

There is no rosary for Jesus Christ. Nor a medal. The Crucifix is the center point of our faith.
No one loved Mary more than Christ. And also, no one loved Christ more than Mary.
You listen to too much people.questioning Mary. Why do they question Mary? Why don’t they question the Apostles or Church Fathers, or other Saints, claiming they are given too much attention? Why do they always pick up on Mary?
First question those who question Virgin Mary, and then your devotion to her.
 
Because Mary was alive, and talking about her could have lead her to be persecuted.

Plus she still didn’t get Assumed to Heaven, and, as such (after Jesus Ascension and before her own death and Assumption) she was not given her mystical mission in the Church yet. That time, I imagine, she was praying for the Apostles and other bishops.

You could never honour Mary enough brother . This is what the consecration to her Immaculate Heart is all about , constant recourse to her .

to quote St. Louis de montfort … ‘‘The more the Holy Spirit finds Mary his spouse in any soul , the more active he becomes in producing Jesus Christ in that soul , and that soul in Jesus Christ’’

She is the most perfect way of approaching Him. She always leads us hand in hand to Jesus and we are more closely united to Him .
