I am amazed at having been coming to this website for a couple of months, over the number of threads dealing with sex and homosexuality, the later being far more prevalent. Sex preoccupy’s all of us at various times, I know there have been times in my life where I have been preoccupied and even obsessed with it. However there are so many more things to be obsessed with in life.

In my opinion it’s this constant talk of sex and sex in the media and television/movies that creates the problems we have in society. Sex should be out of the mainstream. Kids should be taught right and wrong, and that’s the end of it. It becomes a private matter after that. The more attention given sex in the public arena the more interest it creates.

Homosexuality is another thing all together. Everywhere you turn, there is some media blitz over gay marriage, gay adoption, equal rights for gays and such. The degeneration of society has created all of these issues, and most of the postings I see here are trying to search for what is right, trying to justify it, or making excuses for it. Homosexuality is WRONG. That simple. It’s against the laws of man, God, and nature (although I will say the man-made laws are changing when they shouldn’t be). Just because something can be done doesn’t mean it should be done nor does it justify it. The Catholic Church as do most religions aren’t going to recognize gay marriage no matter how many states vote for gay marriage. There may be some that cave under the pressure eventually but the majority aren’t.

Sorry if I’m rambling and venting, but we need to get off the topic, lets get more faith oriented and chat about that.

This is exactly why we do have to talk about it, and why we’ll continue to talk about it until the whole world embraces chastity.

But sex is the best thing ever!

Faith is boring to most people, sex is not. So people will talk about what captures their attention.

The secular media is pushing the topics right now, They refuse to cover the spiritual and faith based points and will not report on what the church teaches. So we must push the truth from here.
The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help us God

Hmmmm. You posted a thread talking about the very thing you are complaining there is too much talk of…

It’s been said the Catholic Church is to sex what the morbidly obese, anorexic and bulemic are to food. —*obsessed with it. I don’t agree in full with that saying, but I can understand it.

Chastity is part of our faith. Moral theology, especially concerning the topic of sexual behavior, has been a prevalent topic since the days of Augustine. When the world places sex and self-gratification at the pinnacle of their lives, it is important that we also stress the importance of chastity. By not discussing the topic as frequent as they do, it would give secularism a chance to drown the true faith out; what we need now is not to obsess on the topic of sex, but constantly stress the importance of chastity.

Despite the critiques, this is what I was trying to say. Let’s stress Chastity, Pro-Life, Pro-Family, Faith Building, Morality, learn about our Catholic Religion. Contrary to claims, I’d challenge anyone to read a book on the life a Saint Rita of Cascia, Saint Philomena, Lourdes, Fatima, Saint Faustina,Saint Gemma and the like and walk away thinking they were “boring” subjects. Sex is too consuming.

It is a sub-topic, amongst others, to the main topic,
which according to Jesus
is living acts of practical kindness,
see Matthew 25 verses 31-46,
and according to Jesus
the two great commandments to love God above all and others as ourselves,
Matthew 22, verses 34-40

If there is a perceived obsession with sexuality on this particular website, it is only because there is a much greater obsession with it in the general society. The CAF WS only reflects in its content what all the average sinners are already thinking about.

I mean, come on, all the TV ads for Viagra…we’d have a cure for Alzheimer by now if folks were even half as concerned for their minds as men are for their sexuality.

And homosexuality is, let’s face it, somewhat strange to the majority of human life which does not practice it. Like anything strange, it draws folks’ attention.

ICXC NIKA.

Two new threads on gays today! And neither has anything to do with a news item. You Catholics just can’t seem to keep your minds off it!

I agree with the OP. I just don’t click on many threads when it comes down to it. I just hope everyone finds the answers they’re looking for out there.

Hello,

Opinion has overturned truth, even for some Catholics.

The media has made it so a person will have difficulty thinking about his prayer life as opposed to his sex life. Religion is bad, we’re told. Whatever you feel is good is good.

The media has made it so too many TV programs and movies portray love as ‘just sex.’ And portray men and women degrading themselves, sexually, all the time.

Instead of portraying generally functional living, dysfunctional living is marketed as the “norm,” when it is nothing of the kind.

Some people I know actually believe that living some kind of normal life is impossible and therefore appreciate watching people who live dysfunctional lives since it makes them feel better about living dysfunctionally to some degree.

How can Catholics talk about faith here when we need to address our works? How can we be more effective Catholics in a media culture that is teaching people to live against what our faith teaches is true?

That is what I want to talk about. Faith in action and prayer.

So let’s hear it: how do Catholics help to get sex out of the mainstream?

God bless,
Ed

A simple start, Mainstream media is profit driven. You draw a line in the sand, and from there say we will not cross. I will turn it off, I will not but a ticket I will not subscribe. The next step is when your asked why, be honest.

So if it’s not a news item and we discuss a topic, we cann’t keep our minds off it.

Very odd logic.

In my opinion, sex is something that needs to be talked about if one is struggling with it. And Sex IS faith oriented. It is the union between man and woman, representing the love of Christ and His Church. I don’t think sex is just a matter of right and wrong. It is a matter of redirecting our thoughts to what sex really is…seeing the beauty in it…not just how “disgusting” it is. Redirecting our thoughts to God. Theology of the Body.

If people struggle with sex, they are here for an answer. I would say it would be wise to try to be more understanding of peoples struggles and be a ministry to them if you can. I’m sure you struggle with sins that may not be as obvious, but would certainly be ‘shot down’ if someone told you “just get over it already” even though you were trying very hard to work on it for the love of our Lord.

We can get it out of the mainstream of our brains by turning it off. The internet provides all the news on-demand and clean entertainment we need. Parents of young kids can minimize pop culture’s exposure to their kids early on. If people organized to form a clean media outlet, we could promote it. If we don’t want to be tempted into going astray, we can just minimize our exposure to it. Love-less sex is all about self gratification rather than sacrificial love for others, so yes, it is vitally important to talk about it, and better yet, be proactive to make a difference. 😃
