When I was pregnant with my third daughter,I got a lot of the same questions. That was thirty one years ago.Because there was a seven year span between my second and third pregnancy the two most rpfrequent questions were"Are you trying for a boy?"or “oops! Was this unplanned?”

I didn’t get anything of the sort for my third (even though she’s 8 years younger than the next child), but our peer group has a lot of families in the 3-4 kid range. (There are 7-10 kid families locally, but they tend to be so busy that one doesn’t see much of them.)

I really don’t get what the big issue is for someone to have more than two kids.

Who in the blazes cares whether or not they have a third child!

This hurts me because I am a third child!

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Maybe it is because I know of several 3 children families, but I don’t see the big deal. 🤷

I too am surprised over the general response concerning a third child…
But I’m a third of 3, with 5+ age difference from my next oldest sibling, and know for a fact that I was not planned. 😛

I can’t help but laugh at the #1 response though.
*Noooo! Please do explain! *

Believe it or not, I started getting a couple of these questions when I was pregnant with number 2!

It’s amazing how many people think my husband’s private parts are everyone else’s business. I can’t believe people want to know if my husband was planning on getting “fixed”
I also got the “you know how that happens right?”
Funny enough a friend joked that my husband and I must not have a TV in our room. Nope, no TV in our room and no plans to get one either!

Those are pretty tame compared to some of the comments we heard when we announced our third, and the comments at three were very mild compared to some of what we heard with our fourth. By the time we had our fifth, we were avoiding the people who commented about our third and fourth.

Oh my, this is exactly how I feel. Is it sad that I plan come-backs to some of these? Many of which have come in very handy, especially at the grocery store.

At least I get full support at church. 😃

Haa:pWhen I was a kid,we lived next door to a rather grouchy elderly woman, never married. When my Mom was pregnant with her sixth baby ,this old gal had a fit.Asked my Mom if she was about done having kids!Once she even poured her bucket of dirty window washing water on my brother, who was playing in our driveway and being too noisy to suit her:eek:

Why? You shouldn’t be upset over what people may have thought about your mother being pregnant with you.

I’m child #2, and no one was happy that my mom was pregnant. She was 40, her only other child was nearing 20, and her husband was an abusive drunk. But my mom had me, divorced her abuser, and gave me a great life. My mom, brother, and I are all very close. And my grandma who was sick at the thought of my mom bringing a child into the world given the circumstances turned out to be the closest person in the world to me.

There’s no reason to be hurt or upset. When a woman is pregnant people tend to be concerned with the logistics of things. But once the baby is born, that melts away and all anyone cares about is the sweet new baby.

Unless they’re really terrible people (or have weird issues). I had a great-aunt (oldest of 8 kids) who went into a pretty lengthy snit when her middle-aged professional son and his wife (who also had a pretty good job) had a second child.

Oh, speaking of weird pregnancy issues, I think a lot of people these days don’t have a lot of boundaries with regard to personal questions. When I was expecting my third, a very casual acquaintance asked me (in the course of about a minute) whether I’d had vaginal births before and whether this one was planned. She wasn’t being mean, it’s just that her ideas of privacy and casual chit chat were somewhat different than mine.

I got some rude responses when my husband and I announced our first pregnancy. I got pregnant a few weeks after our wedding. I realize it’s sort of the norm to wait at least a year before starting a family, so I guess we did things all wrong.

I really don’t know why people think other people’s fertility and family planning goals are their business. If people WANT to share such things fine, but asking, IMHO is just plain RUDE.

Oh my we got that too. We had one family member who was as rude as to say that the child was conceived before we were married. It hurt us both deeply as we worked hard to be chaste during our dating and engagement.

I remember getting those comments when I was pregnant with my third. Must be something about kids outnumbering parents that sets people off. Once you have more than that, it seems that the comments aren’t as bad. When I had our sixth last summer at the age of 45, most people were actually pretty charitable and would remark, “Oh, I wish I would have had more.” Let’s see how everyone acts when we announce another pregnancy soon.

Congratulations and best wishes:thumbsup:

Wow, didn’t think ppl would act like this when a family had 3 kids. I come from 5. Then again larger families are socially acceptable in my very Catholic country. Crazy to think that ppl would make such rude comments though. I can honestly say that the only family I felt had “too many” were a family we knew with 15 kids. I just think that is very hard on a woman’s health. However I certainly would never have said anything!

I got a lot of those responses. Mainly," are you trying for a boy?" Or " this one’s the boy, right?" The kicker though was after my third daughter was born…“all these girls yours?” ALL. Like three is an enormous amount. And they would shake their heads like it was a shame I didnt have at least one boy in the mix. I would just answer with “blessedly so”
