"Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) – Speaking at a semi-annual meeting of Catholic bishops, the president of the national conference of Catholic bishops blamed the Catholic Health Association for passage of the health care “reform” bill that contained massive abortion funding.

Cardinal Francis George of Chicago spoke before fellow bishops as they are meeting in St. Petersburg, Florida and he said CHA bears the brunt of the responsibility for the controversial bill.

According to the Catholic Culture web site, he said “the Catholic Health Association and other so-called Catholic groups provided cover for those on the fence to support Obama and the administration.”

Cardinal George shared how he and other members of the USCCB tried to talk Sister Carol Keehan, the CHA president, out of endorsing the legislation because of the abortion funding and lack of conscience protections for health care professionals.

“The Conference never backed down on these issues,” he said, adding that “everything went south” after the House rejected the Stupak amendment that would have prevented any funding under the bill and resolved the conscience issues.

“Sr. Carol and her colleagues are to blame” for the passage of the pro-abortion bill, the cardinal added, according to a CNA report. “I personally met with her in March to no avail." … and so on"

Cardinal George is wonderfully pro-life.
He speaks loudly and clearly.
Let’s keep him in our prayers.

👍 Praise the Lord! I am so grateful to the Catholic Bishops spreading the truth of Jesus Christ. Coming forward with the message on the evils of abortion.

Catholic Health Association. Are there any “practicing Catholics” in this organization? I could almost bet that there is no Catechism inside these buildings.

If Sr. Carol does not want to be obedient to Church Magisterial teaching then she has just excommunicated herself. Then the excuse," it’s all about service". Service is worthless unless there is love and obedience to Jesus Christ and His Church. That includes obedience to the Holy See.

Francis Cardinal George: prelate and vertebrate. May God bless him!

👍

:amen:
I wrote a letter to Carol Keehan about her role in this “Healthcare” proabort legislation asking her specifically how she can square her thinking with the teachings of the Catholic Church and specifically the portions of the CCC dealing with the critical moral issue of abortion and the “greater good” theory she holds up as her crutch. No response, of course.

Out of evil, the Church will be strengthened and our beliefs galvanized. Never can I recall a time when the Catholic Church has been more visible. I am so proud to be a Catholic.

The last paragraph of your post gives me a new way of looking at so-called Catholics who refuse to follow Catholic doctrine. I become uncharitable in thought when I read or hear about people who call themselves Catholic and yet who defy doctrine or the CCC.

I agree with you, Sherry, that these scandalous individuals provide the Church an opportunity to reinforce its doctrine with Catholics and the world, and definitely “strengthen and galvanize” our beliefs.

Wrong!

Cardinal George and many other bishops are who bear the responsiblity for the legislation.

For too long our bishops and priests have remained silent about the horror of abortion and contraception. Last presidential election the USCCB put out a very weak voters guide giving voters an out for voting for pro-abortion politicians.

The most pro-abortion presidential candidate ever was running and they did not speak out. What did anyone expect to happen? The Presidency and both houses were filled by pro-aborts and people act shocked when pro-abortion legislatiin is passed.

There were many bishops who supported Obama and many, many others who did not speak out about the dangers of electing pro-abortion politicians.

Our bishops were asleep at the wheel and not shepherding the flock.

They can point their fingers at some of the results of their actions, or inactions, and say they caused them. But things only got this bad because they let them.

The tough talk is a few years too late, and all it is is talk. Have these Sisters and other Heretics been excommunicated? Pro-abortion politicians denounced? No, not only have they not been denounced but many are still allowed to receive the Eucharist and cause scandal.

They need to accept blame for the conditions they have created instead of blaming others. This is like a parent, who has never disciplined their child, blaming their child for turning out bad and acting poorly.

So what is his plan for changing things? Or is this just a letter to pass blame and not correct the problem?

Were you asleep at the wheel?
The entire battle between the bishops and those like Carol Keenan is well-documented.

Fight PP and obamacare, not the Bishops.

No,

I am not asleep at the wheel. I have formed sidewalk conseling groups in two countries,- not counties countries- and in three states in the Uniteds Sates. I stand on the sidewalk in the ice and snow, in the winter, along with the burning hea,t in the summer, and I train others to do the same. I do fight PP. I do fight “obamacare” I want the bishops to do the same.

There are around 430 bishops in the United States less than 90 voiced opposition to pro-abortion candidates in the last election. You tell me if they are doing their job. Remember their responsibility is higher as they are apostles.

The laity are the ones who have been fighting the battle against abortion. Go to any PP and look at the sidewalk. See who is doing the work, see who is sidewalk counseling. You rarely, if ever, see a member of the clergy there. How often do you hear a homily on abortion, contraception, fornication? These are the biggest issues of our day and many of our bishops and priestrs are silent.

The laity are giving it their all and are let down time and time again by priests and bishops. There are some good priests who go out there, and bishops who have done the same. Naumann, Finn, Carlson, Burke, have all been outspoken about these issues and present at the abortion centers. They have said what needed to be said to the pro-abortion politicians, few other have done the same. The Church has suffered from poor leadership and now we are paying the price.

The daily readings from this week have been from Kings and Chronicals. They tell the truth about what happens when leaders are lax in doing their jobs. Our bishops have been lax and now some are trying to pass the blame on to others. That is weak and not strong. Passing the blame is not leadership.

Again I ask the question. What is Cardinal George going to do about it? Or is he just passing blame? Leaders solve problems they don’t point fingers.

Blaming the Church is not a solution.
Plus, you’re wrong again.

New Numbers Among the Bishops

It’s that time of year again – preparing the official U.S. bishops statistics, this time for the media’s consumption at the 2009 Fall General Assembly (Nov. 16-19) in Baltimore.

Given the “circle of life” equilibrium that follows the usual trickle of new appointments, reassignments, promotions, retirements and deaths, these numbers don’t really fluctuate that much. But they did it enough to matter. And they’ve done it recently.

To review, there are currently 429 active and retired bishops in the United States.

Of these 258 are active bishops:
– 5 Cardinal Archbishops
– 29 Archbishops
– 1 Coadjutor Archbishop
– 153 Diocesan Bishops
– 70 Auxiliary Bishops

And 171 are retired bishops:
– 8 retired Cardinal Archbishops
– 19 retired Archbishops
– 94 retired Diocesan Bishops
– 50 retired Auxiliary Bishops

The recent fluctuation in these figures has come almost entirely from the spate of bishops’ appointments that have rolled out of Rome since early October. … "
Code:
**All bishops are members of the USCCB.
When Cardinal George speaks in his position as their leader, he is speaking for ALL.**

Routinely, the bishops are grateful for any "heads up" advisory re groups who rebel.
IOW, routinely the bishops drop out of organizations whose goals are now anti-Church.

So again, regarding your statement: (outrageous, IMO):

***There were many bishops who supported Obama **and many, many others who did not speak out about the dangers of electing pro-abortion politicians.*
I ask you: ** “Who? Names, please.”**

A flurry of words from you will not evade the question, so WHO? Name names.

The fact I stated was that there were around 430 bishops in the US. That statement is true. Retired or Active a bishop is still a bishop and an apostle. They are no longer in charge of the administration of a diocese but still a shepherd of souls. They are bishops forever.

Only 98 spoke out for the truth and against pro-abortion politicians. You can do the work yourself to see who they are I see no reason to name names in a public space. Use google and you will find the answers you seek.

Only 98 were doing their job. The voters guide from the USCCB was a joke and gave room for catholics to vote for pro-abortion politicians. Over 54% of “catholics” voted for the most pro-abortion president this nation has ever seen. That rests at the foot of the bishops. As I mentioned some are doing therir jobs and I menioned some of their names. The bad ones are no mystery, the weak ones are welll known. Those who make speeechs after the fact but do nothing before, nor make the offenders suffer consequences after the offense are no leaders. The shepherd who places the blame at one of the feet of his.

Again, leaders solve problems they don’t blame those underneith them.

They could have tackled this problem long ago but did not. Even now all that is being done is blaming. Let’s see them actually do something.

You can defend them all you want you have failed in the past to call a spade a spade and I see no reason you will do it now.

The bishops are at fault. Some are doing a good job but for the most part they have failed in their jobs as shepherds.

I have given many reason and examples of how they have failed us. Prove me wrong. Show me how they have been good shepherds. Show me how most have stoop up against pro-abortion politicians, have rebuked catholic pro-aborts, have led the charge against abortion, contraception, and fornication. Show me how they have laid their lives down for their sheep.

I have NO obligation or need to prove you wrong.
You are angry about abortion, as am I. You choose to target the BISHOPS.
IMO, that’s odder than odd. It’s ridiculous.

Name the bishops who supported obama. I know of NONE.**

Otherwise your accusations mean more 'blah blah blah…"

The bishops are given charge over the Christ’s Church. 54% of “catholics” voted for a pro-abortion president. Contraception is not discussed in our churchs niether are abortion or fornication. All of these are the causes of abortion.

Pro-abortion politicians are allowed to cause grave scandal without being rebuked, with a few exceptions, and even when something as grave as this happens no excommunications.

This lies at the foot of out bishops. Not all but most.

You are asking me to single out and publically accuse individual bishhops on a message board. I don’t think that is going to happen. I will name three very public examples though. Two Cardinals attend Kennedy’s funeral. The Washington DC Diocese paper stumped for and celebrated Obama being elected. Do the research yourself for the rest it is not hard to find.

Yet from your past posts you are unable to fault any bishop no matter how bad his behavior. You are not rational in this regard and there is no point in discussing things with you. Much like the last threat we exchanged posts in it has become apparent your eyes are closed and you will not listen to reason.

I made a clam, backed it up with examples and arguements. You have done nothing to refure it except to say it is not so and demanding me to individually name bishops.

You are unwillling to accept the truth. There have always been bad bishops, there are bad bishops now, and there always will be. When we have more bad bishops than good things go very bad for the church and for the world.

Bishops not handling the problems before hand is sad, they had to know about these pro-abortion Sisters, everyone else has known about them. Bishops blaming Sisters is pathetic, and blaming them while taking no action against them is scandalous and dishonest.

We do NOT as Catholics make random unsupported accusations against anyone,
let alone against our bishops. Don't blather about things you are unable and unwilling
to support with any documentation. (Spare me your second thoughts about your words.)**

If you want the information look it up. Just as I mentioned earlier you refute nor respond to anything.

One other thought. If you want names send me an email or a private message and I will supply this to you. I do not like the idea of naming names on a message board. One condition though… After I fulfill you request you must publically admit you are wrong and apologize…

Ridiculous.
You owe an apology to everyone.

One does NOT make unsupported, undocumented accusations agaisnt the Bishops.
Unless the “one” is you?

Watch what you say or accept that you are spreading horrific scandal.

Again, re your statement;
WHAT BISHOPS SUPPORTED OBAMA.
It’s YOURS to prove, not mine to disprove.**

You are willing to defame “many bishops” as a group but unwilling to be specific? I agree that this is a ridiculous position for you to take. You defame bishops in general on a public message board with no qualms whatsoever.

Aside from that position, I take issue with your laying blame at the feet of bishops for 54% of Catholics voting for pro abortion candidates. Any good Catholic knows the teachings of the church and does not need continual notices from bishops on that subject. That is also a somewhat bizarre stance to take. Afterall, we who vote in elections are not school children who are just learning our faith. Each adult must take responsibility for their adherence to the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Magisterium of the Church. Attacks from within are uncalled for in my opinion on this subject.

Sherry, thank you so much.
I agree with everything you’ve said.

I, too think our Bishops share the blame for the Pro-Abortion mentality that leads to Pro-Abortion legislation and the laity that vote for Pro-Abortion candidates …

While I can understand the hesitation to deny the Eucharist to vocal public well known pro-abortion proponents who alsovery publicaly proclaim their ‘catholicity’ the failure to do so has created confusion. Coupled wth long, complex and nuanced statements regarding support for laws and candidates who are pro-Abortion - well many Catholics are less then faithful to the sanctity of life in their response.

My Archbishop is personally and pasrtorally Pro-Life … yet our catholic governor is adamantly Pro-Aabortion. His wife made a speecha and wrote a guest editorial in the state’s major newspaper a few years back extolling abortion and how good it was.

lifenews.com/state339.html

The governor and his wife were the honorary chair persons for NARAL *********.org/NpoDocuments/36/8036/93-0/NARAL-1-A-6075.Annual.Rpt.Inside.11.076.pdf

So - while the “cathoic” governor support killing babies the Bishop says benignly that all public officials who support abortion should refrain from receiving but
The archbishop hasn’t refused Kulongoski permission to receive communion, archdiocese spokesman Bud Bunce said.
  • … WHile the governor travels around the state and recieves the Eucharist freely at funeral masses for Iraq/Afgahnistan victims … 🤷 … Admittedlly - there is some debate over whether he practices his faith every Sunday …
AND THEN - We see this played out all over America - with the Kennedys, Arnold, Pelosi, Todd-Whitman [democrats and repubicans]

While some may see this as ‘playing politics’ … the truth is that across America each day people are refused Communion - I personally witnessed a priest deny a person the Eucharist at what can conly be described as a small Mass held for a group of individuals who were in a archdiocesan program … everyone was well known to the others and the reason for the denial was not any where as serious as supporting NARAL

The same priest who denied this person [and caused them personal emabarassment in front of their peers] was intereviewd by a local TV station when Kerry was running for office about whether he should be denied the Eucharist for his pro-Aboriton stance … this priest said that it was not appropriate to deny a person who presents themselves for Communion … * … what was the difference between the two persons … One was famous and the issue was abortion - a grave sinand a moral evil … the Other and unknown who attended an Episcopal Church every other weekend with her husband - they alternated attending each others Churches …

So what I learned is that you can publically pronounce support for abortion [pass laws, gain funding, actively proclaim support for a moral evil] and declare yourself and active, practicing Catholic and receive communion any time you want - especially if there are cameras present - would not want to miss the photo op 👍 You can have your opposition to Chruch teaching written up in the papers and sought out for interviews on TV the day before attending a Papal *** in DC

… But if you are a relatively unknown person who wants to attend church with your spouse [which the average person in the pew next to you would not even be aware of] … then you can’t receive the Eucharist and if you presume to present yourself you will be denied …

And that is what the Bishops have given us …

Other examples of where the Bishops are very clear [and rightly so] … if you are divorced and remarried - Don’t recieve the Eucharist … that is it … clearly “you are not to recieve” …

My thoughts are it is the catholic politicians who play politics with the the Faith … And Pelosi is taking that to a new high with her favorite word debacle, pro-choice stance and lecturing about social justice … all while wearing her ''catholic"identity boldly …

The Bishops can’t stand up to politicians today - where would the faith be if these same Bishops and many priests were facing the persucutions of the past - the lions and pyres?*

Your archbishop is personally and pastorally pro-life.
Yet that’s not enough for you. You want him to do what YOU want him to do.
