The revered anchor of Israel’s Channel One news programme for more than three decades has caused controversy by making a personalised documentary in which he concludes that Jewish settlements are endangering the country and that the occupation of Palestinian land is a crime. “Since 1967, we have been brutal conquerors, occupiers, suppressing another people,” Haim Yavin, who was a founder of Channel One and once its chief editor, says in the programme. Even before the five-part series opened last night, settler leaders were calling for the 72-year-old, known as “Mr Television”, to be sacked, because they said he was no longer objective.- guardian.co.uk/israel/Story/0,2763,1496298,00.html

gilliam:
Isn’t that like a pro-government position now?
 whose goverment? The way I read both articles is that Haim Yavin bashes the Israel Goverment for what they are doing to the Palestinians.
Very reluctantly…that is pulling out of settlements.

I haven’t really been keeping up on Israeli news, but I thought the current Israeli government was pulling out settlements.

But the point is they are. Reluctantly, yes (probably because many Israelies don’t want to)… but they are. Hopefully, the terrorists in Palistine will now actually stop attacking? Is there any hope for that? Or is it true that the only thing that will make the Palistinian leaders happy is that Israel is thrown into the sea? What do you think?

Hopefully, the terrorists in Palistine will now actually stop attacking? what about what the Israelis have done to the Palestinians, that was part of the point of the article? there any hope for that? God only knows…I hope so! Or is it true that the only thing that will make the Palistinian leaders happy is that Israel is thrown into the sea? No I dont think that is true for a majority of them, but then I could be wrong:)

Israel grants some lucrative monopolies in the Palestinian areas. Sharon’s son was involved with a group from Australia and an Austrian who built a casino in Jericho. Yassar Arafat’s finance minister had 15 points in the project. The Austrian, Schaff I believe, was accused of working with the East German Stasi during the Cold War. Nothing stuck but he did become quite wealthy off the misery of the East Germans.

Between blood feuds and profiting off misery (on both sides) I do not see how the region will ever improve.
