Christian churches must be banned from performing any marriages if they refuse to hold civil partnerships ceremonies for gay couples, a Conservative MP has demanded.

Mike Weatherley has urged the Prime Minister to show no toleration to churches which turn away gays and lesbians who seek to marry in their premises.

The Hove and Portslade MP has in turn been criticised by Bishop Kieran Conry of Arundel and Brighton for “over-stepping the mark”.

I think some people are just attention seekers who like to hear the sound of their own voice.
Probably because no one would notice they were there if they didn’t shout hard.
 
The Tories in the UK sound like the liberal party in America, the Democrats.

Aren’t the Tories supposed to be somewhat conservative?

No, not her. But the more I hear about the “Tories” the more I think they are much more moderate than the Republicans.

Heck, if it was up to me, I’d have the Conservative party, and the more conservative party! 😉
 
I know some of the basic differences. Never said I was an expert.

My guess is this guy knows there is no realistic possibility of this happening, and
is only making a noise to keep the large proportion of gays in his constituency sweet.

In addition, they do say bad publicity is better than no publicity. 😃

The political spectrum here is more diverse and broader than in that the States. Not all parallels are so neat.
 
I’m all for marriage equity, but I think this is ridiculous! I’m sure there are plenty of religious institutions who will marry persons of non-heterosexual orientations, no one should be allowed to force a religious group to marry someone if it’s against their beliefs to do so.
