I’m the only working person in my family and the only source of income since my dad’s unemployment stopped coming in. I work at a restaraunt as a full-time dishwasher in a very morally depraved environment. Everyone does drugs, except for maybe two other people who get drunk instead, and they do them at work. Even the owner. I am the only one not doing any of it. They are constantly smoking marijuana and doing cocaine and having their dealers bring it to them while we are all working. More than that, they come back after hours and drink the restaraunt booze, cooki food, and do more drugs, while I’m trying to close down the place ( all without the owner’s consent, but I’ve told him before and he obviously hasn’t done anything.) I hate working here, but I want to love these people. They know I disapprove, and I know they don’t care, so there’s no tension there for the most part. It comes up in other ways: the use of the Lord’s name or His Mother’s, doing something dishonest, lying for someone, helping someeone cut corners, stealing, having to remind someone of the difference between their responsibilities and mine etc. I’m not under the delusion that I am perfect by any means, but it would be a lie to say that I don’t care about approaching my job with dignity before the Lord. My point is more of what am I morally obligated to do? Is it okay to tolerate their behaviour, such as the drug use, because of my situation, or am I morally obligated to call the police or do somehting else? It’s so sad to see this much sin, I used to be like that, and I could go back in a second if I let myself be fooled that I couldn’t. I don’t preach to them with words, unless it comes up. I try to set a good example by doing my job well and sticking to my principles and praying for them everyday before I go to work. If nothing else please pray for me and them, and my family. Thank you
