The current story making the rounds is that the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has recommended that the TAC be reunited under the form of a personal prelature, a structure used only once before, with Opus Dei. This would be done so that the organization could come in as a group and preserve certain traditions, but it would allow it to sidestep the issue of their many married bishops, which would have to be demoted to married priests. They would then only need to find a single bishop to lead the group, operating under the direct authority of the Vatican. If they came in as their own church, like the Eastern Catholics, then each diocese would need it’s own bishop, and it could prove difficult finding enough people to serve in that capacity. This group could then serve as a haven for many other individual Anglicans that might consider reuniting with the Catholic Church.
