Does anybody here pray any of the traditional prayers found in your missal for before Mass (e.g. Prayer of St. Ambrose, Prayer of St. Thomas Aquinas) and/or after Communion/Mass (e.g. Anima Christi, Prayer of St. Bonaventure, Prayer Before a Crucifix)? Which prayer(s) do you pray, if any And in the case of the latter group of traditional prayers, do you prefer to pray them right after receiving Communion or after Mass? Or a little bit of both (e.g. Anima Christi after Communion, Prayer of St. Bonaventure after Mass)?

Yes; Before Mass I pray the prayer of St Thomas, and other short devotions that are listed in the front of my Missal (can’t remember the others; one is to the B.V.M.). I can’t think of the right words, but I mull these prayers over until I find myself in the right mental/emotional/feeling states.

After communion I pray the anima christi, and after Mass the Prayer of St Thomas, and the prayer to Christ Crucified.

I wonder!! All the chatter going on before and after the NO Mass., would those wonderful people continue that behavior if they had such beautiful prayers in the Sunday Missalettes.? I’d be willing to bet it would be much quieter.👍

I get what I can in after communion and do the rest after mass

I have a missal and the Prayers before/after/after are all in there. 👍

But you didn’t say WHICH prayers you pray. Or do you pray all of the pre- and post-Mass/Communion prayers in the missal?

yes, I just go through the missal page by page.
Sometimes I pray faster, sometimes slower; sometimes communicants flow through faster, sometimes slower.
Sometimes it is freezing and I’m distracted
🙂
Other times I read/pray pretty quickly.
Sometimes I have to get going and go to work
Other times I have a lot of time after mass to finish up all the pages.
Sometimes after mass someone else will start public prayers and interrupt me so I join in with theirs, etc. etc.
Maybe I have an urgent need to visit the ladies’ room and I cut short.

Do you have a Missal?
I just go through my Missal. Yours probably has similar prayers:)
I don’t have any added cards or prayerbooks if that is what you are asking.
Do you have a Missal?🤷

Yeah, I have a missal, and it indeed has similar prayers. However, I don’t use all of the prayers; personally I just think it’s better to choose a couple that I really like and use those. Don’t get me wrong; vocal prayers are great, but I don’t want to use so many that I don’t have sufficient time for speaking to Jesus in my own words and just basking in His Presence.

Good idea 🙂

I like the one by St. Ambrose personally for before Mass if I am feeling dry otherwise I just use my own words. Afterwards I tend to just use my own prayer, although it is based on prayers and Scripture from a variety of sources.

i try to get to mass .5 hour early, to get my front row parking space and my front row seat; in which i sit directly in front of the tabernacle/ monstrance, which is on the left side of the sanctuary. our blessed mother mary, mother of God is @ the other side above the votive candles, and i begin with the rosary. then i go through the readings and the gospel of the day and try to reflect on them. then i’ll check out the bulletin and usualy mass will begin by that time. after communion @ this time i do an act of contrition, which i beleive i will continue to do until which time i will be able to receive communion again. i just receive a blessing as of now until i get my paper work together and get it to the tribunal. i just finaly got back to the church after approximately 33 years. if only i knew what i had at that time, but in all that time the LORD was with me and daily i would pray, and he heard me and he protected me and my family etc. etc, etc. so when you have to drive to and from atlanta to work daily; you’d better be a prayin’ all the way, and then at work i would many times stay in continuous prayer. we are always in need of the LORD, and he is there waiting for us every single moment of every single day. whether it be a good day or a bad day; he is waiting right there for us to acknowledge him. he wants our attention. he wants our love! and that’s all i’ve got to say! GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU SAFE! joseph.
