OK, I understand now. You hold that I may recognise a heresy but not recognise pertinacity. Is that correct?
Yes. 🙂
I don’t think this is the case. We judge externals…not internals.
I think this is incorrect…any judgment deals with the external…which may very well express the internal…but usually not. Pertinacity is external…as well as internal
I think you are confusing private judgment with the judgment of the Church. The external and internal fora has to do with the jurisdiction of the Church. Private individuals have no power whatsoever to judge persons, whether externally or internally.

By reason of their position as inferiors, members of the Taught Church cannot judge externally since the external forum has to do with guilt in the eyes of the Church and not necessarily guilt in the eyes of God, but members of the Taught Church do not have the jurisdiction to judge in behalf of the Church.

This should read: Private individuals have no power whatsoever to judge persons, whether externally or internally. My apologies for any confusion.

Once again, who made up this “Taught” Church stuff? If anything, shouldn’t it be the Learning Church? Past participles, well, are just that, past.

It’s a synonym for Learning Church, and I think its use just depends on what the writer prefers or wants to convey. I happen to like Taught Church because it uses the same verb, to teach, as does Teaching Church.

Regardless, I use whatever term suits my argument or my opponent. I’m arguing Gorman; he generally uses Taught Church, so that’s what I use with him. Were I arguing with you, I’d use Learning Church since you like that one better.

Also, it is a legitimate term, you know. From the Catechism of St. Pius X:

Q. What do you call that part of the Church which is taught?
A. That part of the Church which is taught is called the Learning Church, or the Church Taught.

Where is the idea that a pontiff can never teach pertinacious heresy.
I know of no such real or imaginary doctrine of Faith.
In fact, the 1,200 year old Papal Oath would indicate otherwise.
Didn’t they deal with that at Vatican I ??
Of course history says otherwise. Remember the pope that made up his own bible and commanded all must use it even though it was chock full of errors?
He wanted to… was preparing to… but died a few days early.

apologies 🙂

heh
I spent the summer of 1979 working in Revelstoke. Helping construct a local Baptist Church. I didn’t have much truck with papists back then.
Revelstoke is beautiful now. Don’t know about back then though.

Maria:

This is funny…because I only started using “taught Church” because someone else was using it. But really, is there any confusion between Learning Church, Taught Church, and Church Learning?

I would hope not. 🙂

ouch
equally lovely. lots of speculation as to when everything would all be washed away when mica (then being built) and revelstoke dams would collapse. the usual fear stuff

Well, as you know, none of that happened. I occasionally work on ambulance there when they are short-staffed. It’s a great community. Thought of moving there once, actually.
