After reading post after post, I have stepped back and really tried to understand where everyone is coming from. I see one common theme coming up over and over, which I think may be a correct observation, of why differences of opinion are so great.
Yes, there have been problems within Holy Mother Church. This no one can deny. However the problem is not with the Magisterium. Lets step back and analyze what has been going on in our society and try to understand the true cause. A basic question that comes up is why is Holy Mother Church attacked so often and on so many fronts. That answer is easy. The wolf (Satan) does not attack the false sheep. Lets look at what has been happening in our society. From roughly 1960 to the present, our society has been undergoing change at a faster rate than has ever taken place in history. (at least from my perspective) We have had a virtual revolution insofar as sex, drugs, and morality in general is concerned. Prayer has been attacked. God has been attacked. Morals have been attacked. Here in America, we are so use to being told that we have freedom to do whatever we want that many accept this even over Church teaching.
The courts say we are free, so long as we do not break the law or harm others. Then the laws have changed. The laws at one time reflected the 10 commandments. No longer. Now abortion (murder), which use to be a crime is OK. A mother actually has the right to murder her child in her womb with impunity. But if someone murders a pregnant mother, they are charged with two murders.??? The practice of homosexuality, which is a mortal sin and affront to human dignity has become protected and in some places where people preach against it, they are even prosecuted for hate speech. Gay pride and gay marriage are now the norm. Even our schools teach our children, against our wills, that it’s OK to be gay and that we must accept this life style as being an accepted alternative. Condoms and birth control are handed out in schools. Some schools even have guest speakers encourage the students to "explore their sexuality."Catholic bashing is OK and no furor is raised when a Catholic Church is desecrated, but let it happen to any other denomination and all hell breaks loose. Basically, we as a society (hank God, not everyone) have lost a sense of sin and shame. Objective reporting in the news hardly exists any longer, with some few exceptions.
Communication over the internet, which we use for this forum has changed communication so much that what I post here from Texas, can be instantly read in all parts of the world. People can express their opinions, whether they be right or wrong and it is instantly before a world wide audience. Such was not even possible a short 60 years age. Everyone has a “right” to express himself/herself, even if they don’t know what they are talking about. .
This is what we are facing. This is what the Church is facing This is what is helping attacks on Holy Mother Church faster than we are able to contend with. Instead of giving my opinion of the Church, lets give what the Church teaches. I say this knowing that this very statement will come under attack. I beg and plead with all of you, pray for the Church. Lets pray for each other. Sincerely, that in whatever we do or say, that we do and say what God would have us do or say. We are all our brothers (and sisters) keepers and must work together. I say this because WE, together, are the mystical body of Christ here on earth.
